Steal it? How do you steal a ride that was designed for a specific footprint of land, with signed contracts?
Perhaps I did not make myself clear. I did not mean to say or imply that the nice folks at Cedar Point would actually and illegally pilfer track from SFWOA. I meant to say that SF may have decided to spend their money elsewhere rather than build a coaster which would be overshadowed (both literally and figuratively) by CP's. While, to the best of my knowledge, SF has not made an announcement one way or another specifically about WOA's hyper, we do know they went to the time and expense of getting a variance earlier this year to build a 200 foot plus attraction, but the recent SF news did not include a major ride going into "the Cleveland park" as they put it. CP may have "stolen their thunder" as it were.
With CP getting this supposedly monster attraction, wouldn't it make more sense than ever for WOA to build their hyper? At least with the hyper people will come to ride it just to see if it's any good. Without the hyper, I'd be willing to be that a good number of people would just say "They didn't build anything new, I'm going to Cedar Point to ride that 420ft giant coaster!".
It just seems silly that another park would cancel a ride that they have fought pretty hard to get approval for just because a competitor is building a new ride as well.

"What would you rather have, A looping coaster... or a 400 foot monster tera coaster?
First of all, as soon as you put in a coaster that goes "upside down", you lose 50% of the ridership. Some people just don't like inversions for one reason or another. CP has shifted their focus to bring in a mass number of people. If they bring in, for example, 2000 new people a year, then only 1000 would ride the looping coaster(s). Give or take a few people, of course.
Second, what other "upside down" coaster could CP build? They have two inverted coasters, though one actually does inversions. They got a standard early-Arrow looper and they have a standup. It wouldn't be a Deja Vu type coaster, since they just got an inherintly better type of inverted impulse/shuttle. There is a 4D, but that just has way too many problems that should be left to Arrow and SFMM to work out. Then you have a B&M Sitdown/Floorless. But would that be any different than Mantis? Just changing the rolling stock?
Only thing that would be plausible would be a B&M Flyer. Its unique, seems to be doing good over in Europe, and is designed by an established company. Just my thoughts.

It is too premature to suggest that SFWoA will or will not continue with a Hyper for 2003. SF is in some financial trouble right now and increased capital expenditure may not be the answer.
If SF decides not to build the coaster for 2003, I doubt competition from CP's new mystery machine will play a deciding role.

Sometimes lurkers speak . . .
This discussion has been done to death, but I think it will be a rocket coaster that will break the speed record. I don't believe that it will be over 300 feet tall though.
I hope though, that it is an Intamin 10-looper. Cedar Point should get coasters with more inversion, and not another launched.
People won't ride if it has loops or inversions? There are going to be a lot of people who won't ride because it's 420 feet in the air. There are still a lot of people that will not ride Millennium Force. I do hope that it does not make inversions so we can have open seats with no OTSR. Looks like a long winter of checking the web cam for progress and waiting for May. :)

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.
RFT, You're going to be disappointed if you're still hoping for an Intamin 10 looper. Colossus used no box track, in fact it used more flat track than anything, and only a few elements had triangular track. It's one of three things, an impulse, a hyper/giga, or a rocket....
You might also be surprised if you don't think it will break 300 feet!
There is a lot of truth behind the statement that loopers decrease ridership. I took a group of 40 high school kids on a church trip to CP in 2000. Some had never ridden a coaster! By the end of our visit every single one rode MF, but about 15 did not ride the loopers.

50%? Are you joking?

Heck, didn't Monty Jasper say during the MF construction that they lose 50% of riders when there are loops?
Me, I'll take a woodie or hyper over any looper, any day. But, to each his own...

It's been almost confirmed that the tophat will be red, white, and blue. Besides... when was the track colors at Cedar Point and indication of the ride themeing? OMG~~ THE FOrCE IS BLUE THaT MUST HAVE smoething to due WITH the OCEAN.!! Um.. no. It's too early to tell what, if any, theme this new ride will have.
The yellow support is pretty similar to those found on Wicked Twister and Xcelerator. Hence it would be used in a similar fashion as Xcelerator. Who confirmed it would be red white and blue???? From what I've read it is just people speculating, nothing is confirmed until it is announced.

“If you give a enthusiast a footer.......He’ll want a coaster!!!"
So, I guess if we see the colors with our own eyes and through photos, it cant be true because CP hasn't said anything yet...
lol!
[no, I'm not mocking you....]

dlf...Jeff's lawn (of all things) got a longer thread....but it took more time to fully develop....I know this board has a lot of CP fans (myself included).....but I really think it's not the 'buzz, but CP itself, that generates these fans.....
I love the place, and for me, the capacity is an ever bigger draw than most of the coasters.....get' em on, get 'em off....

The ice age killed the dinosaurs, we killed ourselves.
I can't remember if he said it or not, but I know Henny Henniger did when they first announced Phantom's Revenge. So that is where I pulled the figure from.
Also, if people won't ride MF because of heights, they probably wouldn't ride the new one if this rumor stays true.

Many people are afraid of heights (me) and thats a lot of the fun in coastering for me. I love the thrill of being up high, but yet I am very scared of them.
For those of you who love your loops, I am sure Cedar Point looks into looping coasters, but does what would be best for the park, and loops aren't the answer.
