Me??? I know nothing! :)
Seriously, there is Intamin track in two colors plus supports. 99% chance it is for a rocket coaster. In addition, there is plenty of preperatory construction around "area 51". Ohio newspapers and TV stations have reported this, but CP says nothing other than there will be a "new ride for 2003", and an announcement will happen later.
Everything else is pure speculation. While it may be true or not, now it is just a rumor. (Popular guess is 400ft+ 100mph+. But, that is just RUMOR)

Cedar Point 2003, and it begins...
yeah Peabody, you know nothing...
Anyway, out of the 10 times that I have been to Cedar Point, I have not seen or heard of Area 51 besides what some people are saying in threads (which is no more than recognizing that it's there). Can you tell me what it is?

Basically, the land across from the Magnum entrance (the ride, not the park entrance over there) has been encased in a fairly tall wooden 'wall' (for lack of a better description). There is a sign that says something to the effect of 'Cedar Point is building for the future.'
That's where the ride is rumored (and all but confirmed) to be located. Of course, the Area 51 itself is most likely home to a small portion of the ride (i.e., the main part could be on MF's island) and not the entire thing.
We know this because footers have been poured there, and even before we knew Intamin track was on site, a reader at GTTP matched the footer at CP to a footer for Xcelerator at Knott's. Of course, if that wasn't conclusive enough, we have track now.
Unfortunately, I find that big name parks (or small ones, for that matter) do not trust me with new coaster information as they do with Jeff. Either they have no reason to, or they're scared off by my signature or something...

That construction is for the revolving restaurant and underwater bathroom/aquarium/sushi bar.

Jeff, maybe you could explain how an aquarium could be underwater... :)

It's Lord Gonchar :) - the original coaster barbarian!
These guys summed it up. Read just the first couple of pages (3 tops) and you know everything. The rest of that thread has turned into speculation so redundant and ridiculous that even I have a hard time sorting through it without periodic spells of insanity induced sleep.

Come on Jeff- theres no way Cedar Point is going to build that. Everyone knows Cedar point doesn't have a space problem. Besides can you imagine the cost of placing a underwater revolving sushi bar/aquarium/bathroom in lake erie?

He's not lying. That's what CP has released info wise so-far.

"...Cedar Point will also build a major new thrill ride for next summer. Parts have already begun to arrive and construction is scheduled to begin after Labor Day. A formal announcement with additional details about the project will be made at a later date."
This is great for me, which was one of the ones thinking of a 2 year construction for the 2004 season!

Yeah, I'm not sure why anyone would think that the ride would be open, first, in 2004. I mean, why would track arrive, and construction begin so soon for a ride so far off?
And what kind of ride needs that much time to build? I can't think of a ride for which track has arrived, the park has all but told you 'we're building a coaster,' and then have it take 2 years... That doesn't make sense whatsoever.
