The paint they are repainting it with is the original color.

Magnum was originally a bright orange-red, not the darker red of Iron Dragon. Iron Dragon is more of a fire-engine red; Magnum's real color is several shades lighter, hence the 'orange' appearance.

The white on the supports appeared to be primer and not paint but ID is definitely changing colors.
Magnum is staying the same as always.

It was very orange. I wish they'd give it a bizarre paint job, kind of like Wildcats last year job
Regardless of what color you think it is, Magnum is being repainted its ORIGINAL color.

Take a look at the leteering on Maggie's photo booth. It's the same orange as the paint they are now applying.
If you want to see what it looked like in 1989 check out the full length ride video on Guide To The Point.
Besides the orange color you also see where the trims originally were, at the top of the third hill, how far down the third drop went before it and the prtzel were reprofiled and you can hear the upstop pads hitting the bottom of the track before they put wheels on it.
Fun Stuff indeed.

As one of the Buzzers who was past the age of 20 when it was built, I recall that the scarriest site in ohio in June 1989 was Orange and Silver.

Goliath at SFMM is orange. Magnum is red. This should end the argument...
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/magnum.cfm
Read the third paragraph: "...5,106 feet of red steel tubular track..."
There. Straight from the horse's mouth.
It was a red-orange that was more orange then red, take that for what its worth.
It was never bright red and it was never pumpkin orange, its in between which leaves things open to your own interpretation.
I think if you had seen it upon opening and see the paint test on it now you would agree that its definitely not red.
And good lord this is the most enthusiassy disscussion I have ever been in. I really need to stop myself before I go to the dark side. ;)
