How long have you worked for Blue Man Group? My friend Mary used to work there as a bartender.

You are so right. I think some enthusiasts (coasters, Star Trek, comics, etc.) seem to miss the fact that spouting trivia about your chosen interest is boring the heck out of everyone who doesn't care about the subject as much as you do.

It's a double edged sword. The "enthusiast" who spouts trivia about the subject in order to "silence" or put a so called "know it all" in their place for spouting the wrong info is the one who turns out to look like a "know it all".
To be truthful, I find that the so called "Entusiasts" are the ones who actually act like "know it alls" much more than average park going public. (which is what I was trying to say in my earlier post)

I agree with Rentch, I used to correct people in line when they would say something wrong about coasters, but now I just let it go. Most of the time I just start conversations with people in line about the ride I'm waiting for, asking if they've been on it before, what they think of it, and then I'll talk about some of the other coasters like it in the country/world, things like that. I don't spout off stats too much, only once in awhile will I talk about how high it is, who designed it, etc. I'm just trying to share my love of these things with other people in line by engaging them in conversation about coasters, nothing too major though. :)
There are plenty of know-it-alls on this board.
Yeah, what SLFAKE said!
Seriously though, I just find it entertaining. There are times when people say misinformed things like not knowing the exact height of a ride and that I think we should all let go.
Then there are straight up moronic things like a girl in the line @ PKD for Anaconda (Arrow megalooper) saying "see it DOESNT go upside down" while staring DIRECTLY at a train in the corkscrews. That's just dumb!

Ok, can we get back to funny stories now, and drop whether you should correct people or not?
KK, thats really funny. You should have ended it by saying, "look through that gap right here. See that?, kind of looks likt a loop to me, doesn't it? And when you get in the train, see if a bar comes over your shoulders, ok? :)"

At PKI I once met a group of PKD works who were visiting the park. I knew they worked there because they had on shirts. Well this was when we were waiting in line for the Beast. So I asked them if they worked ther and they said yeah. I then asked if they liked the park, thinking they would say yes. The guy said no, PKD was better he told me, I laughed. I asked him if they rode Sob. He turned to his friend and then answered like if he couldn't answere the question!
Since BGW is pretty close i asked him if he had been there before, he said yeah. I told him about how that is one of the best parks in the country, then he said PKD is the best in the country. I laughed again and asked were he came up with that one from. I told him Cedar point, or IOA and even the BG's were way better. He looked at me like i was the idiot, so i laughed again and turned away.

Who cares about all the stats! If the ride is awesome it is just awesome and if the ride is garbage it is garbage! For those out there who bla bla bla in line about stats / even if you are right who cares! Enjoy the ride and the atmosphere. It is always better be thought a fool rather than opening up your mouth and removing all doubt!
OK, maybe we can "bore the heck" out of people by spouting coaster stats, in daily life. But when in line for a coaster, most people (I hope) are in the "coaster mood" and would enjoy talking about them. I do not correct people because I want to look more informed, I correct people to make THEM more informed.
While in line for Colossus at SFMM, a guy was telling his dughter that Colossus was the largest wooden coaster in the world. I felt compelled to correct him, and we eventually had a nice discussion about wooden coasters, and how (for many people's tastes on woodies) size doesn't matter. I also let him know that he WAS right about Colossus's record... it WAS the world's largest woodie... when it opened. I also told him about what all the current record holders were (at the time Goliath was the World's largest steel) and he was itching to get on that next!
As long as you do not come off as an overbearing "Simpson's Comic Book Guy" then sharing your knowledge is fine, I think. There is a difference between a know-it-all and a person who knows a lot!

Hilarious. This is the voice my friends and I use when we mimic "Know It Alls."
I was wearing my Millennium Force t-shirt at CP in line for Mean Steak. A group of younger kids asked me about Millennium Force and Mean Streak. One said, " Isn't tMean Streak faster than Millennim Force?" I laughed, and said it isn't. They asked me if Millennium Force was scary, fun, etc. Hopefully, I helped them get up the courage to ride, as they told me they were too scared to ride...

I was in line for the Beast and heard someone say that PKI is the oldest park in the country. They then went on to say that the Beast is the oldest rollercoaster on the planet. After about 10 minutes, they couldnt figure out which coaster (looking at the Vortex) was which, because they were two different colors. Its so much fun to eavesdrop when youre alone

I don't mind if a person makes a little mistake, but I have 2 friends that think they know everything about coasters. One friend told me he was sure Dueling Dragons had a launched lift. I said no, ony Incredible Hulk does. He says, no, both do because he went on Dueling Dragons and he remembers it. Ha! My other friend said RB ran 4 trains a couple years ago. I don't mind the occasional mistake at all, it is the ones that think they no it all and get it all wrong.

The exact same thing happened to me! I didn't correct him though, because I didn't know thew exact length of the Beast.
Anyways, I don't mind when somebody screws up the specs of the coaster by a couple mph, but sometimes people are totally clueless. Some people love to ride, and don't care about what type of ride it is or what color the ride is. I have nothing against that. People will always provide entertainment, though.

I usually just chuckle to myself when I hear someone saying dumb stuff; generally they are younger kids. I would never correct someone I don't know, but my friends on the other hand...:)

Yeah, I think know-it-alls and, pardon, total idiots are fun to listen to. Especially when the people there talking to know the actual facts! You should see their faces.
But anyways, I think many of us here know a lot of facts about coasters. Because if you knew nothing about coasters, why are you here? Anyways, many people know about coasters, and many say nothing. It's the people who know-it-all that we notice.

Ah, roller coasters, a two hour wait for a two minute ride.
