Actually Mamoosh if you look at their wall you will see some people mentioning the theme.

looking good! Although i am surprised they chose this theme for a woody

I Agree, Sounds like a great Steel Name. Still Excited. Just Confused. :)

And I am seeing a lot of, "eh, looks the same as Psyclone comments as well.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with Rodrick a little. It looks a lot like Psyclone.

Isnt this just Psyclone redone?

Moosh, that was John Knotts. Mentioning a movie actor by name should provide a decent clue that that wasn't me... ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

I find it funny that they used the RCT scream in the spot. Some sound effects should be permanently retired. But never the Wilhelm Scream, it's timeless.

Ummm...eightdot: I was being sarcastic. It seems not a day in the last year hasn't gone by that someone here on Cbuzz or other forums sites hasn't said, "A woodie...themed to Terminator?"

It kinda looks nothing like Psyclone, but oh well...

This is the first coaster that has been done by the new management from start to finish, so far it is looking good. Finally the mountain got the tunnels that we were supposed to get on X2 and the theming looks pretty good

Plus it will be the first wooden coaster with an on board sound system. Not the biggest, most thrilling coaster out there, but it was not ment or designed to be that way. This is a fun lil family ride that will add to the parks offerings. Heck, it is the only new attraction in a southern california themepark in 2009.

I for one am looking forward to it

I thought that sounded familiar and out of place.

And as far as it being like Psyclone, any wooden coaster would look like Psyclone to some people.

When SFMM announced X2 the guy who cuts my hair refused to believe me when I told him that it was just X, "reimagined" with new trains, new paint, music and a flamethrower. He was convinced it was an entire new ride built next to X, which he had already ridden and enjoyed. He mentioned the commercials as proof.

I've spoken to lots of people who think parks stopped building new wood coasters "back in the 30s" and that all new coasters are made of steel.

Of course people think Terminator is Psyclone. The majority of the the "general public" isn't as in-the-know as us enthusiasts. They don't think like us, they don't or can't easily distinguish between similar rides, and are usually confused or wrong.

It's brown, it's a rollie coaster, and it's made of wood. Definitely looks like Phyclone to me. ;)

So true. I often wonder why parks don't take advantage of clones more considering how many people are so oblivious.

I took a friend from Northern California to Knott's about 5 years ago and we rode GhostRider. He got off and said something like, "that was exactly like the Grizzly at Great America."

I looked at him and thought "D'oh!"

Wow, I won tickets to see the movie and ride the new coaster on Thursday!

^ Lucky! Let us know how the movie AND the ride is! No spoilers though! Just a thumbs up or thumbs down. :)

...or hands up or hands down, if you will ;)

btw, for those who are in southern california and want to go to the thursday night opening kroq party for termy, you can still win tickets. Just go to www.kroq.com

Other coasters will be also open during the private party from what I understand

KROQ hosted a similar event on Tatsu's media day (a few days before the official public opening). I got to go. The turnout is CRAZY. You have L.A.'s most popular new rock radio station hosting an event for a new roller coaster, it always results in a mob.

At least the event is held at night, which I can say is nice because you don't have to wait in the scorching Santa Clarity Valley heat.

I'm sure the crowds will be the same for tomorrow evening. I submitted an entry on the KROQ site, but haven't received an e-mail yet. *fingers crossed*

Quick update from the cyber cafe at magic mountain......

"Terminator is on fire". Yup, first wooden coaster with actual fire effects along the ride. Still fighting with the resistence, power is low, robots getting close, have to run...

lol, tripreport sure will follow!

Trying to say that some people are stewpid? ;)

Then again, I suppose a car enthusiast might say the same about me not being able to tell a Chevy from a Ford from a distance.

Wow. That's two coasters at Magic Mountain with fire effect! Good thing all that wood is fire retardant treated. :)

I was on the first train of Terminator for the 6PM KROQ Media Day Event. In fact, I'm such a nerd, I'm posting this at SFMM's cybercafe. (Spoiler alert.)

SUMMARY

Terminator has extensive theming and on-ride audio, unprecedented for wood coaster. It's a peppy, short ride with loud on-board dual speakers. Pacing suffers because the coaster is so short--how can there be a beginning, middle and end during a ride shorter than a commercial?

GOOD THINGS:

  • On board audio includes movie quotes like "Take the tunnel!" just before the station fly through and another set-piece like line right before take the first drop.
  • Misted queue lines for hot days, including stationary movie-like props of blown up, souped up Jeeps (product placement).
  • The station fly through is startling and loud, (but partly invisible to riders and queue-members).
  • The curved double down first down has pep!
  • The low slung hills all have pops of air. Fun!
  • One Shooting fire effect after the first drop. Singes your eyebrows. Fun!
  • What a great re-ridable coaster. Seriously, smooth and fun to ride. I'm 45 and I could ride this all day long. Edit: At night this thing turns intense...fun intense, not Voyage intense.
  • BAD THINGS:
    • Length: I think this GCI is probably too tame and short for most thrillseekers on this board. It's super short. Edit: Again, at night this thing really screams.
    • Dour Story: The coasters theme is post-apocalypse and high tech, and lacks a sense of humor about itself. Everything's so serious and dour.
    • Story Progression Problem: The indoor queue preshow is three rooms, managed by Six Flags ride operators acting like military (clever), monitoring the rooms and number of people, and commanding you to the next room. (The story doesn't move you to the next room, when the video's done, they command you to "move out".)
    • Enemy Never Appears in The Story! Girl runs from something which threatens her OC. Again. What is it? More instructions, yelling now. She still runs. A bit repetitive. Shaky camera. She runs. No special effects. No robots. No robots in the room to surprise you or scare you... well there are three in the third room, but they are just mounted on the walls, mute.
    • Story Anomaly And that picture of the escape train on the video doesn't look like the other coaster images our heroine was walking through earlier.
    • Cool visual effect. Then a dark queue hallway with corrugated metal walls with graffitti on them which turns colors! Cool.
    • Music is random and cacophanous. Loud angry metal music continues. Muddy percussive rock music with rumbling, explosion sounds from high-grade speakers throughout the queue, which don't match up to the music. Too loud tonight. They turned it down after the first run.
    • The coaster is all too brief.
    • Edit: At night this coaster visually is much more apocalyptic and thematically aligned--the fire spout is a truly spectacular effect. And the coaster's lighting is stunning at night! Also, as mentioned, the coaster is much more intense and fast paced at night, giving this coaster a little bit more of a sense of completeness, just due to the increased intensity.

      SUMMARY

So, it's a coaster with an haunting apocalyptic theme, a video story line with only two characters with lots of dialogue , and no appearance of the villain, but a peppy, short GCI with lots of pops of airtime, much more intense at night and you wish it was longer!

      SOUNDTRACK/STORY
At the end, I couldn't hear any change in the progression of the music from beginning to end. I 'll have to listen more carefully. The coaster goes through a final visual set piece at the end, which was incomplete tonight. Maybe we finally get to see the blown apart enemy--the robots which have been destroyed during our journey. That might give the story more closure.

      QUINTESSENTIALLY RE-RIDABLE.
Re-ridable! Edit: The GCI seats are extremely comfortable, the ride is smooth, and you can strap an infant in the thing and it would be fine. Shaken up a bit, but fine, but the baby may come back into the station with a tongue piercing and tattoos.

Nine Inch Nails type angry acid music? That would be awesome!

The movie is receiving some pretty bad reviews.
