Survey Say's Shock Waves Goin

Ok, today was the 12th of August the day after whizzer's supposed final operating day. When we pulled up to the Drop off zone where we saw a very intrigueing site at Six Flags Great America. In the drop off zone there was a man standing with a tripod and survey equipment! He had already spray painted a sign on the ground that say's C.P. 17 . We talked to the guy who was surveying Shock Wave and he said it is DEFINATLEY GOING DOWN THIS YEAR! He also said that the park would recieve a new Superman Coaster. That was all we could drain from him but some more proof is that Shock Waves Red and Yellow trains are on the transfer track and the Blue train was no where to be found. Also there were several construction workers wandering around the Parking lot beneath shock wave. Finally The Taste de Resistance to prove it is going down the Entire lift chain is gone! Now normally parks dont just remove their coaster's lift chains. That is the evidence deside for yourselves.

Well, nothing is terribly unheard of....Trains get overhauls, chains get replaced, surveying happens (for many reasons). (Of course not a lot of this usually happens during the season!) But, these three things together are interesting. If SW was operating normally and this rumor/news was floating it would be more hard to swallow. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I Hope it gets relocated vs. Gettin scrapped.

Unless they build around Shockwave, which would also require a surveyor...
Its bad they are taking it down, no more headaches?? :( or black outs. Go to the red train on the Eagle!! Deja Vu just sucks. Breaks down everytime you walk near it..

It's done good riddance

I'm with above. I have ridden the thing at least 75 times and i have not found a way to make it a good ride. I want a metropolis area where it is standing with a couple of coasters and flatrides which we need.

What do you get when 3 companies become one? Something B&M and Intamin can't handle.

I was at the park today. Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, is official yet. It's still a rumor. And besides, those surveys are a load of horse manure.

Take it up a notch, Mr. Operator! I wanna feel my brains in my feet!

I fail to see how a Surveyor, most likely third party, who is being paid to produce some topography maps etc of the land at the park, would know the specifics of a new attraction going in the land.

That is of course assuming that he even exists in the first place...

-----------------
So what if the best coaster in Australia is a second hand Arrow?

How is it a rumor if Amusement Today reported it as fact? That, for me, confirms that it is gone.

)The Whizzer is saved!!:)

Please, show anywhere on Amusement Today's website anything about Shockwave being removed.

It was "Amusement Business" that reported it, and they weren't exactly specific with regards to the details.

Most intriguing that Amusement Business is the only source of this information. What makes you think that Mr Tim O'Brien didn't hear the news that Six Flags wasn't removing Whizzer, then happen to hear that Shockwave was down, then decide that Six Flags must be removing it. Honestly, that is the most plausible explanation so far.

X to the extreme what are you doing!?!?! why are you posting the same thing twice? Also if they were only creating a topography map of the park how come I didn't see any anywhere else? Also why would they be surveying the same topographic area in side of the Gate that boarders shock wave? I swear some people need to think before typing. Oh and another thing to add. The same day we were there a plane circled the new orleans area of the park more than twentie times! I think it was taking Arial photos of Shock wave seeing as it never went above any other area of the park to my knowledge

I'm so confused as to why so many of you are saying Shockwave's lift chain has been removed. Have any of you actually LOOKED at it?

I'm sorry, I got them confused. Do you really think a creditable source like Amusement Business would risk damaging their reputation by posting a rumor like that? I don't, but you can think what you will. I hope Shockwave doesn't go, but I will happily trade it for Whizzer staying.

I've heard from a park insider, that the chain has NOT been removed, only the one train that needs servicing. However, despite that fact, they say that they still -suspect- that Shockwave will be going, as apparantly it was due to go in '99 originally...for the long planned, but yet to be built water park. Time will tell. I just hope I get to ride it one last time before it goes. I also hope that Six Flags could see the wisdom in having Morgan or someone come in and modify it, ala Phantom's Revenge. No need to lower their coaster count, especially in an area of the park that needs more attention. I think a Flyer built around and within Shockwave + some landscaping would be awesome !
