Superman: ultimate Flight worth it?

There are a couple of coasters I'd prefer NOT to ride. (GA cyclone comes to mind).

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

On behalf of Adventureland, I will gladly accept Georgia Cyclone AND Texas Giant, Andy. ;) While I'm at it, send us T2 also! :) *** Edited 6/21/2006 9:37:58 PM UTC by Acoustic Viscosity***

NO! I want the Georgia Cyclone. I love that ride. I think we rode that more than any other ride at SFOG.

Is it everybody's agenda on CoasterBuzz to get off topic as quickly as possible? ;)

So speaking of the Geogia Cyclone who's gonna win the superbowl?

Now that's off topic.

^ Geogia Cyclone = superbowl

Huh! ;););)

I gave S:UF another chance at SFGam last week (since I missed it by about a couple of mintues during Frightfest at Gadv.) and it wasn't that bad in the backseat. I actually thought the turn after the pretzel loop was more intense. It was actually kind of fun. The only thing I don't like are the ankle cuffs, which you become a lot more aware of when you're waiting to unload and there's a train in front of you.

By the way, how exactly do they evacuate people off the lifthill in case of a power outage or breakdown? There's nothing below the track like on the B&M inverts. My guess would be a not visible to the public small crane/cherrypicker, but does anyone know?

^ There is actully is a platform that can move up and down the lift to evacuate people in case of an emegency.

I have a pic of Tatsu's from RCPro. Link

I find it hugely boring and absolutely 100% prefer BORG Assimilator, the prototype vekoma flyer. It's just too forceless and friendly, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't need huge intensity. I prefer Top Gun at PCar to BTR, for example.

I still don't understand why so many enthusiasts demand a ride to be thrilling. What's wrong with a ride simply being fun?

I agree. Fun/thrilling.....it's all the same to me. As far as the Supermans they are OK, but I am one of the few that like the Vekoma flyers the best. ;-)

I'd like the Vekoma flyers a lot more if they didn't bang around so much on the curves.

^ Rob, you tried a Zamperla flyer yet? Now THOSE bang around on the curves....and having the restraint at throat level, that plain hurts...

edit: Fun and thrilling aren't the SAME, but either works for me. Case in point, Leap-the-Dips...I doubt ANYONE would call the ride *thrilling*, but there's NO doubt it's FUN... :)

If I needed to be "constantly thrilled", I feel like I'd miss out on a LARGE part of the park experience...YMMV.

If I needed to be constantly thrilled, I'd never set foot in a Disney park, or any park with less than 3 coasters (insert small family park here). Heaven forbid a park/manufacturer decide to build a ride that's just fun, without enthusiasts specifications.

No wonder all the small, quirky rides are built in Europe! ;)

I've tried Super Flight at Rye Playland. I remember it being bad, but something inside of me wants to ride it again. Don't ask me why!

^ I am *compelled* to ask why... ;)

I *did* ride Tomb Raider (PCW's Z-Flyer) again this year, but only because friends were getting their credit lap....well, and I needed to see if it was as bad as I remembered....it was... ;)

The B&Ms take the prize for comfort and reliability, and throughput...but I still like the Vekomas...at least until I get to Tatsu...

Has any one else thought about this but dosen't B&M just make 3 or 4 copys of a new gimic ride.

Like how Medusa was the first floorless and now there is 4 copys. Like how Superman: Ultimate Flight was the first B&M Flying and now there is 3 copys.

Sounds a litle fishy? ;););)

edit:B&M should make more flyers like Tatsu and Air. They should make floorless like Superman: Kripton Coaster.

I prefer the Vekoma trains and layouts over the Supermen except for the loading speed and the harsh head-rests. The snug 4-point harness on a Vekoma just makes me feel more secure with its better custom fit on my frame. YMMV

To me no flyer is worth more than a fifteen minute wait for anything less than a credit lap. Even then I'll ask myself why I'm waiting for this thing since I'll skip bumerangs and hang-n-bangs credit or not depending on how I feel at the time.

Hamster Boy, B&M is constrained by what the park wants. SF constantly builds clones because it saves money (since the blueprints are allready there.) Blame SF for being cheap not B&M.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

I wouldn't consider a company that builds $25 million coasters cheap. Six Flags is a chain. I see nothing wrong with implementing similar attractions @ all their parks across the country. It ties the parks together.
Why should a park change a successful and popular design? Why build a custom B&M invert (not counting the original Batman: TR, no SF park has one) when you could just pop in a clone. Between the original and mirrored versions, they seem to fit them into a lot of parks, in places where one might not have thought a coaster could go. But maybe that's just my opinion.

As far as Superman: UF is concerned, it's not a bad ride in my mind, but compared to the SFOG version on a hill with terrain, it's not as good. One of my complaints with the ride is, after the pretzel loop (which is pretty amazing), the ride just soars around an open field, with the only thing to look at being the queue and the parking lot a few feet from the track. It would have been better if they would have added some themeing (a building or two). SFOG has a tunnel at least. Maybe themeing is too much to ask of that era in Six Flag's Management history, but a few trees to block out the parking lot or soar around (or over) would have been nice.

Maybe it's just me, but flying around a grassy field ISN'T what I want when I think of a Superman flying coaster. But that's what SFGAdv has.
