Statement from Holiday World

Pat Koch announced it at the meal. She said that someone was ejected from the Raven. Then said that the chance of them surviving didn't look good.

For the person who asked, Kara is fine.

Our sympathies as well go out to the woman's family, and to Holiday World and it's staff. Up until this incident, we had a wonderful time at the park.

The ops were checking seatbelts regularly, AND were pulling them tighter. Lap bars were down at least two clicks and checked as well. I do not see this as the fault of the park, but the park is taking this incident very hard.

It was a very sad ending to what was a wonderful weekend.

I was at SRM, and I would like to send my condolences to the family of the victim and our extended family at Holiday World.

From what I saw, the crews were checking every belt and every lap bar, yes, they were tightening belts and making sure the restraints were at least two clicks down, sometimes three.

I have never been to HW and I was wondering if someone could explain the on click ride thing. Did the ride ops let you do this, or not check them? I know I have been on rides before thinking, I dont really need to have a restraint. This is of course on rides with low to no air time.
Once again, the park has asked us not to gossip about this incident.

I know it's hard to do, but if there was a time to keep it down, this is it.

Without the chaindog, you'd never get up the lifthill...

I was there and The crews were doing there jobs. I was crushed myself and had my aunt come and get me since i didnt wanna stay and I didnt drive down.

I feel aful for the family.

I've noticed the restraint doesn't do much on The Beast.

One click means the bars only pull down past one ratchet, and the ops sometimes allow it. I've seen people stuff their hand in their pockets and push up against the bar, so the ops think it's down all the way. That's VERY unsafe.

We obviously need to talk about this and deal with the accident as a community.

HOWEVER... I will not tolerate pointless speculation and stupidity. We don't have all the facts yet and we don't know what happened. Let people mourn and support the Holiday World and victim's families first.

That's not a request.

I just arrived hom at 7:30 pm Eastern Time from SRM...I am still devistated. My mother (who was there also) and my prayers go out to the womans family and friends along with those for the Kochs and Holiday World. The thing I kept repeating to my mother and the 2 others that came with me is that "I may not know this person, but they are still family to me." Everyone in the Holiday World family I stand behind you and share my prayers.
Not only tragic, but ironic. Of all the parks for something like this to happen to, Holiday World would seem the least likely. And of all the coasters, a fairly conservative woodie would seem the least likely. With looping coasters, standups, hypers and other models pushing the envelope in one way or another, you sort of expect something to go wrong eventually. But on Raven ? It's a great coaster, but not extreme in any way. Like Kennywood's Whip caught in the freak microburst last year about this time, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to events.

Weird you should mention that, since this accident happened within a couple of hours of the one-year anniversary of the Kennywood accident.

This too, shall pass, but it's going to take a long time.

My thoughts and prayers with the victim's family and friends, and those that were riding with her. That could not, in any way, have been something easy to see.

Trekker Park: I don't see how you could call the Raven or The Legend conservative. They are both very intense I.M.O. A lot more than most mega coasters. The fifth drop on Raven is argueably the best Airtime spot on any ride.

Holiday World's official site was just updated with information that Holiday World will be open tomorrow but the Raven and Legend will be closed. My prayers goes out to the family and Holiday World.

Some more information from WFIE. According to the report (and the Kochs are quoted in the story and credited as the source to the details) the couple (they were engaged) were sitting in the back row on the last ride of the day (before SRM of course). She fell out during the mid-course drop.

They were there for SRM.

It's horrific and while these things can happen anywhere it hurts even more when it happens at the kind of park where the owners are as dedicated the Kochs are.

Details will trickle in time but this kind of grace under terrible pressure is what makes Holiday World so special. Prayers go out all around.

To the Families...To Pat, Will, Paula... and all of those at Holiday World.... you are in my thoughts...

This has been the longest day in awhile for me.... it is one thing, to read about this type of thing.... (that is bad enough) but to be at the park during the event... I have hit a new level...

We definately all came together last night in support.... no one could stay in there rooms at the Lodge... we needed each other... as Holiday Worldand the Family of the victim need us now...

My prayers also go out to Jeff Hamersley....I know he is stunned...This was his first Winter to really dig into the Raven.. and make it what it is... as he said to me on Friday night " Raven is perfect.... I can do no more... it is Finished" (just gives me chills typing that..)

Everyone where your Holiday World shirts and Memoribilia in pride... we and the park need each other right now..

Sincerely, Sean Davis

I remember talking with a group of 10 people outside the Santa's Lodge. We stayed up and just talked about it for 2 1/2 hours.

There were a few of us outside the Comfort Inn too talking about it.

Donny S, I think I was right in front of you Friday when Jeff was stating that. Here's to hoping it doesn't need any more modifications...
