S&S purchases Arrow Dynamics

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

According to Amusement Today, S&S has purchased Arrow Dynamics. As part of the settlement, they have settled the suit with Six Flags. They plan to continue using the Arrow name.

I have mixed feelings as well. There's a really good chance that S&S could restore Arrow to their former glory, and there is a really good chance that both companies could tumble to pieces. Like Jeff said, both companies have their strong and weak points. I have a question though. Since S&S bought Arrow, what will happen to the current Arrow employees like Alan Shilke and Fred Bolingbroke?

One thing that I'm not really worried about are the reputations that S&S and Arrow have with the big chains ( Cedar Fair, Paramount, and Six Flags ) Yes, the rides they build did have huge amounts of problems, and the parks should be compensated for them, but I don't think that the parks with hold a grudge like little children. They may be apprehensive at first to buy their rides, but I think that if Arrow and S&S re-build their reps, the chains will again trust them.

Arrow has gone under several times, and parks still trusted them after their many failures, up to a point of course. Also, I thought that Dodonpa wasn't having any trouble, and X is now running consitantly. Does anyone have any information on this?

Sir Willow, I would think when you buy a company, you would get their assets -- ie. Designs, plans, computers, files, drawings, employees... They have the 4D tech now....

yeah, but Joe, you're forgetting that most purchases of companies don't involve lawsuits from outside companies trying specifically to gain rights to those plans. And since the Six Flags lawsuit was specifically asking for the rights to the 4d coaster, there is a good chance that as part of a settlement those rights could be given away.

There's a lot more at Arrow besides just the plans for the 4d. But that's why I'm wondering if anyone knows what the terms of the settlement were.

Call them Arrow Power!

Personally, I'm waiting for the air-launched 4D.

Air launched 4d seem to be popular idea but lets do the math folks. Instead of lift and drop were going to hurtle it down the track with massive accelaration that would increase the stress on the train by about 3 times, welcome stress fracture city. Sorry but I think Arrow trains are all POS. I love Magnum, but the trains are junk, lap bars made in the 20's had a better design. Now if we could ger Intamin to build trains for Magnum that would be something.

That's really great news.Because SFA can really anther Coaster.A B&M would be very nice and also nother wooden coaster.Mabye a duelin twin racer. My buddies & I wil be going to SFA on the last day of the season on November 2.Ande I'll will be making my SFA trip report as useely. So be on the lookout for it.
This isn't about who is better, nor is it the place to bash the people who have stood the test of time, pioneered numerous amusement devices, and continue to improve on previous designs to the point of jeopardizing their very existence...... seeing the latest and greatest thrill brought to fruition. They have survived worse situations, and this looks to be a "transition" into the Arrow everyone (well, most everyone) has been waiting for. Let's hope it's a gradual but promising one. I'd love to see the look on that Corkscrew ride op's face after telling me Sunday they weren't around anymore.....

I don't wish to see the downfall of any company, and that includes Intamin and B&M. But every company suffers downfalls, and we are fortunate that Arrow has made it this far. They are going on what, 57 years now? That alone is a reputation worth looking at. I am not concerned with certain parks losing faith in them, simply because they have products at nearly every park in the US, not to mention MANY others around the globe. And for the parks that are afraid to add an Arrow ride, I suggest they take a business trip to DollyWood, Magic Mountain, Kings Island, Cedar Point and Disney to see some of the best examples of their work, both old and new. There's a reason Matterhorn has lasted this long!

The 4D still belongs to Arrow. They can build one any old time, and word around the campfire is that there are some interested companies out there that have been saying, "Let us know when the bankruptcy is over." Well, it's over, let's just hope that they're not the same people peeved at S&S for whatever reason.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

What you now have is a company who is very agressive (S&S), who just added the most experienced group of field engineers who are experienced in world travel and business. I think you will see plenty of towers in all those Asian parks that have Arrow flumes, and you will see a huge amount of "American Made" marketing on all their rides and attractions.

Oh, yea, when will Vekoma be involved? Our world does not revolve around B&M everyday.

Having met Stan a few times and talked to him before, during and after the whole Vertigo thing.. I think this positions him as a major player in the industry.

He now has the "know how" to some of the most unique rides in the world as well as a pretty solid rep by picking up the Arrow name.

Is this a good thing?? I'm not too sure about it. I still think the Denise Dinn thing is a bad idea.. but that is personal..

But as it has been said.. time will tell...

I'm glad about the merger. Now PKI can get another train for Top Gun. I also agree with Arrow Guy. Go to Dollywood and ride Tennessee Tornado, it has got to be one of the smoothest looping arrow rides in existence. I really thought it was going to start bringing business back to them. Of course, I'm more of a coaster purest, as I don't like flying or stand up coasters, and have no desire to ride a 4d coaster. Maybe my age is getting to me, but I would rather have more steel and wooden coasters with traditional thrills of air time and laterals.

This gives me a very good feeling! I hope that S&S and Arrow get stronger both through what seems to be a very advantageous and attractive corporate marriage.

Is Arrow Dynamics going to come up with anything new in the coming years?
