S&S purchases Arrow Dynamics

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

According to Amusement Today, S&S has purchased Arrow Dynamics. As part of the settlement, they have settled the suit with Six Flags. They plan to continue using the Arrow name.

Maybe they will stop using Fabriweld and actually create coasters that will stay smooth.

Now Reopened With A New Layout!!!

everyone can stop holding their breath now, six flags didn't get the 4D.

i just dont see this as a good thing. I mean S&S most recent rides have been failures. not to mention hypersonic (which i rode this summer and i was not impressed) one of the most unreliable coasters in the world. I dont think S&S can lead Arrow to is former greatness. I just hope they let arow do their own thing. A couple of succesfull 4D's would bring arrow out of its depression.

So when is the air launched 4-D coming ;)

I would love to ride Hypersonic! However having been on Xcelerator (several rides on almost every row on the train during a mid-week afternoon), I think it would not be as exciting now.

I wish SSArrow all the best and I'm hoping the synergy will positive! *** This post was edited by The Legend on 10/29/2002. ***

Another chapter in the amusement industry. This is very intriguing, because it's the rescuing of a veteran company from a relatively young one. We have to see what the future is in store for us now that this has happened.

My mistake, that's BY a relatively young one.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Yes, Arrow and S & S have had their reputation's hit recently. I don't think that it will necessarily knock them out of contention. There have been rides in the past that have failed, but the companies that produced them have survived. Outside of Vertigo, the two most recent issues have been mostly repairable (X and Hyper). Even if the 3 majors stay away, some of the smaller parks will certainly purchase their offerings, which could lead the majors to return.

Reputations can be damaged and repaired. I think if Arrow can produce a successful from the start 4d, others will join the rush to get one.

Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

I'm shocked........ ***lose of words***

Great, now not only will the trains be falling apart, but the whole dang ride will be falling over...

I look at it like the Packard-Studebaker merger, two companies on hard times trying to salvage something and actually making it worse, I know for a fact that S&S towers are having problems, Power Tower drop went down 4 times the last day of the season. I hear its happening at other parks also. Vertigo is still sitting in the CP employee parking lot which says alot for CP S&S relations. After Hyersonic, X, and all the other various probs the 3 majors dont look to pleased with both of them. B&M and Intamin have no worries, swiss and german enginering prowess never fails.

LOL ! But what I wanna know is .....

will they call themselves

Custom S&S Dynamics ?

Sharpe: I dont think that "X" has had much less downtime than S:TE and V:TBC; both fine pieces of swiss engineering. Oh, and what's up with Taz's Texas Tornado? A fine example of German craftmanship...

It's interesting that they brought in Dinn to get a wooden thing going, and then bought Arrow, which will presumably bolster their steel coaster section quite a bit. It looks like they are trying to become a conglomerate.

Does anyone else make steel and wood coasters, and flat rides?

Well, I suppose Intamin does.

Wolf - Vekoma makes all three as well.

Intamin Fan says:

"Maybe we should just go back to the old days of wood coasters without sensors and computer systems."

Well, while they didn't have computer sensors some most certainly had the ability indicate where the train was when past the lift. Anyone who has ridden the Lakeside Cyclone, Conneaut Blue Streak, and other classics have seen the picture of the coaster's layout in the station and the light-bulbs that tell the operator where the train is.

Moosh - wishing for a time-maching, too ;-)

I think Arrow will do just fine. I have a feeling this is a good thing for S&S. Arrow has a great reputation for building world class coasters. Remember, the company isn't changing much. I doubt S&S will have much to do with Arrow at all, ride wise that is.

I'm happy, no, ecstatic, that Arrow is back. Really looking forward to anything new coming from this great company. Now I'm just hoping they get into the business of re-profiling their rides. If Morgan did it, I'm sure Arrow could! :)

S&S a force to be reconed with. they now have a well rounded coaster company and thrill ride company. They have all the makeings of a great Corp. with a Wooden,Steel, and thrill ride division.
Everyone is talking about this as if they're positive that S&S is getting the rights to the 4d. However, I'm not sure that's the case.

All the article says is that the lawsuit between Arrow and SF was settled as part of the purchase agreement. What were the terms? It doesn't say, but since SF wanted the rights to the 4d, isn't it possible that they got it as part of the settlement? Until those terms are released and made more clear I'm not sure that everyone should be thinking that's cleared up yet.

On a personal note, I'm sad to see the end of Arrow as an independant entity. With so much history in the company it would have been nice to have seen them find a way to continue to operate without being sucked under someone else's umbrella. Now I'm waiting to see what S&S does with Arrow and the Dinn wood division, and whether that turns out to be good or not.
