Beautiful example, Spewey! One might suppose the parks will do anything to prevent a lengthy proceeding....and possibly the accompanying negative pub.
It's kind of a two edge sword; since the parks make settlements--even in blantly rider-at-fault situations--then we're already payin' for it.
And amen to anything that compels reckless corporations to own up to their public responsibilities. Lord knows they wouldn't do it on their own.

i agree with what dave said 100% it was scary hearing this at first becouse my cousen just left for disney a few days ago.
re: lawsuit
disney puts on all there tickets that you must sue them in florida, you will not find alot of brave lawyers in florida willing to go head to head with disney.

Let me clarify: Someone dying is a tragedy and should not be joked about. Doing something stupid that will in one way or another make life more difficult for everyone else down the road is selfish and stupid.
Agreed. May he, and all affected, find peace.

I went there on Sunday when it happened. I went to the ride at about 2:15 and they said it was closed and I wondered why...Now I know!Glad I didn't see it happen!

"FEAR the Four!"
I have heard that this person was "mentally challenged" and that it would have been a good idea to have an escort with him. He may not have been aware of the danger that he put himself in. If that is the case I have to wonder who left him alone and why?
bukweetfl like I said before, why would someone want to commit suicid on a ride like that. I could see if it jumped off to hit the ground but why get try to get hit by another car. If his entent was to kill himself then it was a bad choice. He could have been struck and been paralized. Usually when you want to kill yourself you do it so that you have a 100% garentee you will die. As for respect, all I am saying is don't joke about someone who is died. Thats wrong.

Whyever he got off, he probably was not aware of the close spacing of those boats. I doubt that he intentionally got hit by a following boat.

Just because someone decides to go for a dip in Splash Mountain, doesn't mean all accidents on rides are caused by irresponsible riders.
Shame he didn't step off the "Dudley Doo Right's Ripsaw Falls" instead. Then it would be TWO lawsuits for IOA.
Yes, Jephry, I do agree with your sentiment, and set forth a sincere apology that my intensity over what people--especially children--have to witness in this world. You are most correct not to make fun of a death.
I will say that I have a friend who put 44 to his mouth--in private--and, by his admission, chickened out as he pulled the trigger, the bullet flying outta the side of his head. He obviously survived, and can talk about it. I guess the point is--he was doing it in private.
Many people choose the "public display," for whatever reason.
Someone really said a key line: Someone was responsible for leaving this individual alone. Someone who knew. This person will have to deal with that.
I still cannot stand the idea that our children are repeatedly exposed to this stuff throughout their young lives.
Well, this has been a thoroughly interesting subject to "kick around," and it is a pleasure to debate with you all--albeit a tragic circumstance. For everyone, nothing I ever argue about is personal; I'm happy when my kids wake up each day, and never let anything such as this forum take ion too much seriousness.
Perhaps we can conclude this subject soon--I see it is also drawing comments in the newsroom.
Meanwhile, I'm back to holding up all you good people's election--I am a Floridian--and a Palm Beach guy (although I read the ballot RIGHT!).
All the best.

I agree the kids should not have seen it. Your are totally right. This could have been prevented one way or another.

I'm off the subject here but isn't there a web site that has girls flashing on this ride?
-------------
bukweetfl - I noticed you posted your last comment twice. Is that what is going on in Florida - did people vote twice? (Just kidding ... now get counting so they can get that dang thing over with).

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.
Spewey--as I'm nearing 40, I wish to apply for an entry-level position in your "age and treachery" department.
I am in no manner whatsoever voting twice! Wouldn't even consider it; it's just NOT enough. I am, though, sitting on my porch, feverishly punching holes in a stack of ballots I found inside a ballot-box laying in the street.
Fear not! I want to reassure all my fellow Americans that I will promptly get these ballots to the Clerks office by morning.
Now, if I could only read the dang ballot correctly. Is hole #1 for B&M and #2 for Arrow or visa-versa?
2 posts?!? Yes, I musta hit that "submit" twice. You're right, Spewey! That's what all my buddies did at the polls yesterday!
Now that we're thoroughly off subject, before I punch in these last 500 ballots, did either candidate promise higher, faster coasters with ultra-smooth inversions and giga-mega-hypa launch systems for each and every American.....?
I think I'll run down to Office Depot and pick up a few hundred more of these data-input cards.

Jeff!!!!!!!!!!!! Help us all out and please do something about this thread that has gotten out of hand. I joined CoasterBuzz for coaster info, and all I seem to be reading about here lately is the crap that is happening in the rest of the world. Forgive me if I'm being blunt, but this site isn't called "Let's talk about everything under the sun that has nothing to do with roller coasters of the amusment park industy buzz", it's called "CoasterBuzz" and I'm sure Jeff didn't come up with such a cool name for this site just to have other stuff talked about. Auggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Stop the maddness!!!

What is life without ups and downs!?!?
I'm OK with this topic, and it's a refreshing change from the enless top ten lists, best/worst and they should tear down threads.
If this "crap" bothers you, don't read it. Let us moderate the site, OK?
Mahalo!

Webmaster/Admin - CoasterBuzz.com
I don't wish to moderate this site, but according to the CoasterBuzz Forums note which says "Welcome to the forums at CoasterBuzz. Please note that these forums are carefully monitored by our team of moderators to bring you more of what you like (coasters) and less noise. Have fun!", you and your moderators aren't moderating enough. I agree that this is a change of subject, but to poke fun at a persons death (as crazy as the man had to be) is not right. No one here would want someone poking fun at a relative or friend who died in a freak accident like this. Anyway, this is my opinion and if what I feel isn't morbid enough for some of you I apologize.

I appreciate your input, JoshTCF, even though I've posted quite a bit on this topic. I agree making light of a sad occurance is not my cup of tea (and I said so above) but to me the real meat of this thread (aside from references to the election debacle) is the discussion of the role litigation should or should not play in amusement park safety. Sure, you have to filter out a little noise, but this is a pretty important topic, one that is often overlooked, one that influences everything from which rides parks will add, how they are constructed, and what to do after they go wrong (see: Drachen Fire) - not to mention how lawsuits add to the prices we consumers pay. And, you know, although this thread eventually came to resemble a twister rather than your usual out-and-back, that doesn't bother me at all - it's nice to get off topic once in a while, especialliy if you can get a chuckle out of it (see: bukweetfl's last post). Just my two cents (Canadian - that's 1.3 cents U.S.).
