SOB-possible to enjoy it?

Maybe you're confusing airtime with light-headedness due to repeated concussions?

Nate...you took the words right out of my mouth :)

Real Cbuzz quote of the day - "The classes i take in collage are so mor adcanced then u could imagen. Dont talk about my emglihs" - Adamforce
The last time I rode that piece of crap they call a coaster was last november on their closing day with crazy horse and let me tell you i got off in tears cause I felt my lower back compress like an accordian. I still felt the pain the next day at work when I went to lift something. We thought we were in the clear when we chose to ride in the front row. Boy were we wrong. We wont ride that thing till they get some new rolling stock to make it more comfortable.

Ok there is a lesson here. What did we learn today? If we stay off our knees they will not bleed. Sheesh, you don't ride a rollercoaster like a Caveman.

If you had called Geico, you would have save money instead of reading this.

Its true when you are on top, like being the tallest, fastest wooden coaster on earth everybody takes shots at you!

LOL Inci...I totally misread your post and thought you were referring to a different big Dipper. That's what I get for ready so fast ;)

Heck Moosh, I hear ready do fast is your trademark!!! LOL

You are all wimps and wusses!

I really dont get all the *ire* that Sonny sparks in so many of you. I personally thought it was fantastic. Okay, the floorboards in the trains suck ass, but I never found the ride to be "rough". It certainly isnt glass smooth, but very *very* few coasters in general, and no woodies that I've ridden in particular, fit that description. I really dont get it.

This is definitely no great surprise to anyone, but TMI.

And to be perfectly honest, as I've said before, I think airtime is overrated. Sure, it nice to have in spots, but I think that y'all put way too much emphasis on it. I like when I can feel a coaster *doing* something to me. Otherwise, I might as well be on Amtrak (see all of Poppa Beast before the ending helix).

Most people would like to feel a pop of airtime here and there but helices are nice also. When your back and spine are being forced back into your body, there is something wrong. Coasters are supposed to be fun not creatures that see if you are fit. G's, negative or positive should be be extreme and not hurtful to the the human body. When the human bodies as a majority says that this hurts, then guess what, it is hurtful.

Anyway, I think the human race has not fully developed yet, there are still some links that need to be studied.

But hey, I really liked Hercules too! ;)

Yup. You have us all figured out. There's a couple dozen people here who refuse to ride (or rarely ride) SOB because they secretly like it.

It was so obvious.

Might I direct you to the single most respected wooden coaster poll done today.

I'll even simplify the numbers for you.

In 2004, there were 433 voters ranking a total of 176 wooden roller coasters. The average voter in the poll has ridden more than 33 wooden roller coasters.

Son Of Beast placed at #167 - 9 away from being deemed the worst wooden coaster in the world. In fact, it has never placed higher than #131. There is not another wooden coaster in existence built in the last 5 years that has ranked as low as consistently.

Everyone's opinion is valid. You like the ride. Goodie for you. The masses hate it. Enthusiasts hate it so much that they called it one of the 10 worst wooden coasters on Earth in 2004.

...but you're right - they all secretly love it...the bastards.

No, not AGAIN! It's another SOB "bash". Can't we all just get along? SOB is the main reason I go to PKI now...it used to be Beast. In my 25+ rides, (I live in Chicago ya' know), there were good and bad. Way more good than bad. Sheesh, I rode it Memorial Day weekend 2000 when it opened...ouch! I think it's great now...most don't and it still doesn't matter to me. Darn it all, these things are all a matter of personal preference. I prayed for the end of Hersheypark Wildcat and I bet some, if not most, of you like it. Preference people preference...my .02 and I am outta' here! *** Edited 4/15/2005 8:03:46 AM UTC by Marky Mark***

SOB's biggest fanboy!
If you are in Chicago, why not save the carfare and ride the Viper, which is arguably an insanely great wood coaster? Or the Little Dipper, which is far better than Son of Beast.

(Just do yourself a favor and avoid the American Eagle)

Venom and daggers coming from the breath of Lord Gonchar. It's been a while since I've heard the ire from Da Lord....I'm just glad he's still got it, and the stats to prove it. "Ranked lowest in the last 5 years." Tisk, tisk, we still don't know what we're talking about.

"When you're on top, everyone's taking shots at you." "Like the Yankees."

a) The Yankees are a great team and franchise and are only ripped because they ARE the "Evil Empire", not because they are the best, because right now they aren't...and we are laying into them pretty good. On the other hand, I"m sorry to say, we still rip on the KC Royals. And the reason is? They SUCK. You just compared apples to oranges, wood to steel, or smahht (insert Bahston accent here) people to doofus'.

(SoB: The Carp. Big, bad-looking, sucks you in, then you realize, it's garbage.)

Man, I hate to disagree with you, Gonchar, but the masses don't hate it as much as you might think. Personally, I despise the ride, but I had to wait an hour in line while they were pumping out the trains at breakneck speeds to form my opinion of the ride. In fact, SOB was one of the longest lines I waited in all day. But the rest of what you said is valid. It is almost universally hated in the enthusiast community, with only a few masochistic fans.

Certain victory.

The lines are long because they got the blocking wrong and can't run three trains!

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

In all seriousness, I believe SOB is horrible because of their train. I cannot stand the ride because my thighs feel like puried meat afterwards because of the stupid U lap bar.

I dont know how feasable this is (since it has a loop) but a switch to a PTC train I think the coaster would have a much better reputation.

I like the "breakneck speed" commit by kick the sky, its very fitting for this ride. There has been what.....2 or 3 broken necks on this ride.

Yep,.................sounds like a fun coaster to me.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Ok, SOB may be rough as hell, and there may be a lot of people that have painful experiences on the thing, but this is how dumb rumors get started.

^^^ Okay, how about this dumb rumor then? I dislocated and relocated my shoulder on Son of Beast and ended up having shoulder pain for the next six months afterwards. I can believe the broken necks.

Certain victory.

I never get these arguments myself. You know, if you don't like a park, then ok, you don't spend $40-60 at it, then some people can say "well, you didn't go on ride X or B, so try that." But when it comes to coasters, I mean really people. I hate SOB, but I don't care if the SOB lovers ride it over and over. Cool, fine, do it. I won't. I can go on ANOTHER ride at the park! WOW! What a concept! Attendance speaks louder than a coaster poll or forum online.

My problem is when people start inventing reasons why people are wrong. What do you mean we don't ride the coaster correctly? RIDE THE DAMN RIDE. Ride it, have fun. Just let me and the others who hate this ride hate it.

I meant to imply the enthusiast masses. The GP rides anything and rarely votes in popularity polls.
