Small things about coasters you notice.

It's all these little things that really make or break a ride and it's part of the reason why simulators just don't do it for me. Most of my preferred "little things" can really only be found on woodies and is part of the reason I prefer wooden rides over steel.

*I like hearing the brake noises, either the pneumatic pops of air or (and this is the best) when the skid breaks are released and the train drops down onto the track before rolling out of the station.

*I like the first couple of clanks of the anti-rollbacks when the train first engages the chain.

*How about the sound of "buzz bars" releasing.

*The musty smell of pre-lift tunnels (which far too few coasters have)

*Watching the train roll over the course and seeing the structure shake or cables vibrate after the train passes

*The clanking of the anti-rollbacks taken at speed on near the tops of the hills.

Depressingly, a lot of these things are the things that seem to be few, far between, and getting rarer on woodies of today.

I love how the trains on the comet at hersheypark shift back and forth on the lift hill. Its fun to point out to first time riders. :)
*I love the sound of a train decelerating on Intamin magnetic brakes. (or the drop rides for that matter)

*I love how when you're in the front seat of Batman & Robin: the Chiller at SFGAdv, just before you launch you can watch the brakes open up one after another down the tunnel in front of you.

*I love on Intamin rocket coasters how the train rolls backwards ever so little just before the launch

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

The total quiet (Except for the rowdies) As Shivering Timbers tops every hill on the outbound trip and half the ones on the return. Can't say total quiet. You hear the road wheels still spinning but they aren't touching.

The slam Legends upstop wheels make in a couple places (Unless Jeff and TGG has fixed that problem)

The absolute pain of a not well maintained wooden coaster.

Chuck, who notices some things like this from time to time

I love finally hearing the music in MF's station after waiting in line for 2 hours.

And I have to agree with the eerie silence at the top of Drop Zone....although I don't ride very much any more because somehow as I’ve gotten older I’ve discovered a fear of drop rides.

I like seeing other people's reaction to the rides the first time they see them, like the first time someone sees TTD launch, or the first time they see someone standing on a coaster, or see 32 pairs of feet flying threw a loop.

I have to go with coaster lover's one about TTD ever so slightly moving backward just before you launch (it's my cue to take a deep breath).

I also like the "swing out" on Raptor just before you drop which is much more pronounced from the back.

I also love the howl at the top of the lift on Legend.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

- the sound of wdw's space mountain hitting those magnetic breaks...its hard to describe it just sounds so cool

- the roar of a b&m...very classic and intimidating

- pressing the dispatch or dispatch enable button on a ride and knowing that you are making it move (control freak!)

- not necessarily something i like...but i am fascinated about how sfmm manages to run most of its coasters with only two people using those auxilary control panels

- not a coaster, but everything about the intamin first generation free falls...the shape of the cars, the sound of the brakes, etc...

...and such

The accelleration of the click's as you crest the top of the CorkScrew. Its very noticable from the back as the front of the train launches you over the top of the hill.
The brakes stoopping in a boomerang(the smell) and the click nose you get when the train relases you.

I was looking at Dollywoods Thunderhead and I noticed the boards the mechanic has to follow in order to walk the coaster everyday.

Hearing the clank of a coaster in rct1 and nolimits 1.3 over and over again.

S&S Tower filling up with air.

I liked alot of the things people so I won't mention them again.

The pneumatic brakes opening and mag brakes lowering simultaneusly on Mr Freeze. the mag brakes don't start lowering until the after like the 3rd set of pneumatic brakes open, though.

The excessively quick opening or closing speed of Texas Giant's airgates. That definately makes the station more exciting.

All the sounds of air going about a coaster, from brakes to gates to restraint releases. Also a coaster hitting the brake run and gliding into the brakes ever so smoothly. The sound the coasters alarm system makes when starting the ride or lifts or motors.
Haha, Den, I didn't even realize this was a resurrected topic - shows how much I pay attention.

Also, I love the extremely loud chain dog on Anaconda at PKD, but thats not a small thing, it's very noticeable if your in a car with the actual dog on it.

Here's a classic: Belmont Giant Dipper's musical chain dogs when going up the lift.
This is seriously one of the oldest resurrected topics I've ever seen.

But anyway, the alarming air time that you can only get in the Back car, and nowhere else, on PKI's Vortex's First drop.

And I noticed the cutdown of a headchopper tree on Lake Winnie's Cannonball.

Chattanooga needs a ITG2 Machine!
*I Love the sound Of WT's LIMs.

*The Roar of Beast in the Tunnel

* The "ahhhhhhhhh" of riders On Gemini when they go under the head chopper.

Has anyone else ridden Rampage and thought that the first car is lifted off the track on the final brake run? I wasn't sure if my mind was playing tricks on me...

When Iron Dragon slows to a near stop on the lift hill when the previous train hasn't cleared yet, there is always some guy that shouts some sarcastic comment about the ride breaking, and sometimes some little kid freaks out. cruel to laugh, but i cant help it
I love when your in line for the Raven and you either see or hear the train come roaring out of the woods around the last turn, but mainly how you can hear it coming before you actually see it. That just rocks!

I, for one, can't wait for the Italian Job to open...looks awesome to me!

I bet it doesn't top hearing Thunderhead's Flyer roaring through the station ;)
