Six Flags Worlds of Adventure wants zoning variance to build hyper

Posted | Contributed by Bubba

According to a report today in The Aurora Advocate, Six Flags officials have approached Aurora, Ohio's city council for a zoning variance so they can build a 200-foot roller coaster on the marine life side of the park. The ride would cross over Squires Rd. and one of the show arenas would have to be relocated.

Would you REALLY REALLY want a coaster only 500 feet from your backyard?

That means that every 5 minutes during the coaster season, there will be a group of 28 screaming fanatic coaster riders passing by your house.

That can get a little irritating day in and day out when you want a little peace and quiet. The article also said that these residents were there BEFORE the parks were up!

If they install some big sound buffers, or tunnel the coaster in that area (it benefits both parties), then we might establish a happy medium...

But think about it...
It's not as bad as living next to a highway (no pollution, not an all-night event), but for some people trying to enjoy their leisurely life... screaming peeps passing by every 5 minutes during the summer CAN get irritating.

However, living BY a park, 500 feet from the park itself... that is all good & well.

The Great Escape... Soon to become Six Flags Adrondiak Escape!!!
I am more a cedar fair pereson than a six flags person coughcedarpointcough but still i hope for any park to get at least one coaster that exceeds 200 ft becuase after that they become a real park and i hope they do build a hyper coaster from either intamin or b&m becuase they seem to be more funner in there designsbut and arrow would be bad either the need a hypercoaster comeback. I am not really a dh morgan fan they tend to make a boring brake section in the middle of there ride, i know b&m does it but they don't stop in the middle of a lot of action to do it like dh morgan does. But to build a giga most likely is out of the question, i might be wrong but they would have a lot more trouble with zoning for a giga that with a hyper but who knows only time will tell what happens
Spell Check BadXzample, Spell Check please!!!!!! Also, put your post into paragraphs so others can read it more easily.

""Coaster riding is a disease and SFGAm is the cure!!!!!!!""
i think they should build a B&M giga, or atleast 250 footer. and it should be B&M, cause B&M rules.
When I read 200ft camelback I thought of something like the camelbacks on Raging Bull, and one of them just happens to pass over a road, it never really states if it is the lift hill or max hieght...

It's a 4-D to compete with PKI and CP. Those 2 parks don't have anything close to a 4-D.
having been to SFWoA this season already, I'd wish for a well run park before a Hyper. I shudder to think about the consequences to the rest of the park if they had another major coaster to maintain. I for one do not plan on returning ever. I'll stick to any other Six Flags park even without a hyper.
They can do more than one thing at a time rod. Think about it...

BTW...

Jeff: They said it will use the terrain, too bad though.

If this is true I am now happy that I only work ten minutes from the park. :)

Could we have imagined this 3-4 years ago when Geauga Lake got sold? Changes happen so fast.
Has anyone entertained the thought that it maybe a woodie 'using the terrain' (Boulderdash) Across a Road (Ghostrider). These woodies do this and 200 ft ... Can you say Intermin Colossus?

If Lifes a Rollercoaster, I want a Flawless
A 4D coaster would really add in nicely with their coaster collection. It would also be yet another coaster that no other park in the midwest has.

How does one say, "Sounds like a 4-D?" Excuse me? The only thing it sounds like is a 200-foot coaster, because that's what they say it is.

The park hasn't made an announcement because they don't have all of the approval yet. That's the problem with operating a park in a small town like that. You have to tip off your competition ahead of time to deal with the local planning authority.

The Legend: See THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!. We were discussing this on the refreshinglook boards and I mentioned how it would be such a coup if SFWoA could get a huge woodie that EVERYBODY loved. In light of the fact that the *other* heavy lumber coaster in the state (Squeak and Sonny) get *mixed* reviews at best. In any case, once again the "spoiled little (coaster) rich kids" of Ohio will have *another* toy to play with.

yes this is a real newspaper, i should know. I live i the city that it's delivered to. Also the AUrora zoning board is easy to get approved by. It's Bainbridge that's tough. SFWoA originally wanted to put a custom Vekoma DUtchman back by BKF and name it Batwing. But bainbridge said it'd be too noisy and said it would have to be 90 ft tall to be built, and X_FLight was born

HurricaneGeauga- Just in case
Well, I guess CP and PKI have done it right. Either put your park out in the middle of a lake, or buy up so much land that nobody will be anywhere close to the park. That way nobody complains about the noise. :);)

(P.S. I'm sure other parks have done it, those are the two I'm most familiar with.)
