Vernon, no you are wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.

The double-shot and the combo tower are different ride types. The double-shot, true to its name, launches you upwards with much force twice. So far they've only built small models around 80 ft high of these. The combo tower is like the space shot and turbo drop rolled into one, it shoots you up and then it shoots you down.

Go to S&S Power's site (http://www.s-spower.com) and look at what THEY label their own rides as.

Six Flags Over Texas is getting a very large combo tower.

Olympic, let's be equitable, shall we? Every drop tower ride Paramount builds is called Drop Zone. There aren't 30 Six Flags parks in America, and, according to my count, there will be 10 rides in America with the Superman name, including STOP. Try not guessing the next time, because it makes you look like the lazy one.

Dude, you're getting an Intamin!
ok, i know there has been some confusion, but my beautiful new ride (I live in Tx.) is the tallest in the world. SupremeScream is 325' tall and S:TOP is 328' the reason that it is advertised 313' is because the 325 on SS and 328' on S:TOP is because of the pyramidal little decoration thingy at the top
The combo program shoots you up, then slowly raises you up, then turbo drops you. It does not shoot you up and then shoot you down -- that's implying something more like the continuous motion that a shorter double-shot provides.

While I'm looking forward to having a S&S at Six Flags Over Texas and think it's something the park needs, other than the height, there isn't much of a difference between it and other, shorter towers. The launch and drop speeds for all S&S towers are practially the same.

On the subject of the combo part, when Scream first opened at Fiesta Texas it had 2 towers. They were running 1 as a drop and 1 as a shot for the first few weeks the park was open. Sometimes they'd even switch modes between loading the towers. Ever since the full time operation started that year (99), all 3 towers have run the combo program. There is simply a switch on the control panel to pick "shot", "drop" or "combo".

And as Pancake stated, the correct name is a "combo ride". Not only can it be found at the S&S web site, it can also be seen on a plaque on each of Scream's towers. http://www.coasterphotos.com/temp/Scream-combo.jpg

The Hero names may work but I think some of them are getting pretty overused, don't ya think?

We have a ga-zillion Supermans, a fair share of Batmans (and a Robin), a Spiderman, Joker's and Riddler's.. Why not give the other heros or villians a chance?

I can see it now:

Aquaman: The Ride. LOL!

Who else could they do? Wasn't there a Captian America?

LOL! LOL!

The 313' specifications DOES INCLUDE the pyramidal top. S:ToP is 313' maximum height with a descent height of approximately 250'-260'. Supreme Scream is 312' tall maximum and 325' if you add on the steel beam at the very top which holds the flag. Supreme Scream's descent is 252'.

haha, silly name indeed...

But the typical park goer only goes to one six flags park, so they only know of the rides at THEIR local park. It doesnt matter what we, as enthusiasts, think is an overused name.

"Faster than a speeding rocket coaster… more powerful than a Cedar Point locomotive… able to leap a tall Drop Zone in a single bound! Look up in the sky! It's a Beast… it's a Raptor… It's Superman Tower of Power!"

315 FEET TALL!! I will ride it i guess even though its called Superman Tower of Power...haha

Official stats on the ride are 315' tall with a drop of 245'.

In comparison:

Power Tower at Cedar Point, 300' tall with drop of 240'
Supreme Scream at Knott's, 325' tall with drop of 254'
Power Tower At Valleyfair, 285' tall with drop of 250'
Scream at Fiesta Texas, 200' tall with drop of 180'

IB Steve spewed: "Now if SF could get the rights to Bluntman and Chronic, I'm prepared to review my position on stupid superhero ride names."

But who the F_{ are they? That is what 99% of the the visiting guests would think. Names like Hulk, Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman are not just superheros, they are American Cliches; part of true "Pop Culture". You say "Superman" and the image of a cock-diesel white guy, flying around in blue pantyhose, underwear on the outside, red go-go boots and a big "S" on his chest pops right into mind. You say "Bluntman" and some people will think of a someone "smoked out" while others will think of someone known for brutal honesty (Captain Obvious anyone?) while still others will simply think "WTF?!?"

It's all about "brand Recognition". They would be better off theming a ride to Pikachu or "General Hosptial" simply because they are popular icons.

Ever wonder why "The Tick" never took off?

Uh, Jeremy dude, I was goofin'. But truly, if someone's never seen a Kevin Smith film at this point, they're pretty "sheltered," IMO. My 67 year old mother would understand Bluntman & Chronic. I refuse to believe that the general American public is that out of touch. It might be true, but I choose not to believe it. Can't make me. Don't even try. And, no. The TICK has never, EVER been part of my conscious thoughts. So I get your point.

But General Hospital ain't been part of "popular" nothin since Luke and Laura split up sometime in the 80's. EARLY 80's. Spew that! *** This post was edited by IBsteve on 11/14/2002. ***

Kevin Smith movies are not *nearly* the hits that certain groups of people think they are. Honestly, I dont ever remember seeing an ad for one of his movies till "Slient Bob Strikes Back". Had I not been the age that I am, I doubt I'd have ever heard of Mallrats or Clerks. Certain things do not cross cultural lines very well. Hell I remember that people didnt know about the movie "Set it Off" while it was still in theaters (Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, Vivica (the) Fox....)

well, maybe its false advertising. Remember when they announced the Titan, they said it was 255 ft tall, so, it wouldnt be the first time Six Flags was off by 10 ft., plus S&S said it was the tallest they've ever built of this type *** This post was edited by SFoT2004freak on 11/14/2002. ***
