Okay, a new ride is coming to SFO. No I don't know what kind of ride it is but it will be 115 feet tall! It will be located in the front corner of the park near Superman. Geauga Lake road will be moved around the parking lot so the ride can be placed there. So it is pretty safe to assume that Mr. Hyde is coming down! I have no website but if you have the Cleveland Plain Dealer look at Saturady's Metro section and you will find the info there!
[Ed. note: Normally this would be placed under the rumor section, but we have more information that confirms some of this information. Read the Plain Dealer's article. A source close to CoasterBuzz confirms that there are Vekoma parts on-site:
"A good friend of mine was at SFO over the weekend and looked in detail at some skids of stuff in the RV parking area. They were clearly marked Vekoma and were very large J-shaped anchor bolts. Accompanying them were large plates with octagonal bolt patterns on them. There was also other writing in Dutch on these skids. There is talk that GL Road will finally be rerouted around the north of the parking lot, and a Vekoma Flying Dutchman will be located in the Superman area and the corner of the parking lot."]
When I said, "I don't think they'd have two Superman-themed rides in the same park," I mean specifically Superman, as in the flying superhero with the red cape and blue tights. I realize that many Batman characters and whatnot have themed rides in certain areas of parks, but does it happen that much with Superman?
[Hmm... "Lex Luthor's Nasty Fall"... it could happen...]

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
Has antone ever heard of Goudrix. Its at park asterix in france. it like a vekoma coaster with 7 or 8 inversions {i think}. but to get back to the point at rirst it seems like an arrow type corkscrew coaster and its not to tall. maybe they are thinking of something along that line.
i really think the park needs to get 2 S&S towers within the next few years.
Lets see, Goudurix:
1989 Vekoma
7 inversions (3 verticals, a boomerang and 2 corks.)
max height: 118'
longest drop: 108'
speed: 56
train capacity: 28

As much as i would like to see a new Arrow at SFO, it will most likly not happen here for a while. Arrow will be doing an LSM coaster pretty soon, so that will sell quite well. They also have their hands busy with NASA right now. It would be nice to see a Mad Mouse up here at old Geauga, since we havent had a coaster like that since they took out the CYCLONE (Pinfari Galaxi) in 1980.
I wish Arrow could design a new control system for the old single loop shuttles so they make a comeback. Come on Arrow baby! I want to ride some new lovely rails!
And I'd like to see an S&S, too, Joey! Perhaps a Double shot
yeah one up and one down would be great maybe even make em a height record breaker?!?1
20,000 rollercoasters won't do it if the rest of your park sucks. As far as Stealth is concearned, I have never understood what people mean by wanting "more flying elements". They are *all* flying elements. If I could fly, I certainly would not just fly face down, I would do all sorts of acrobatic flips and turns, how boring would it be to just fly face down. I do agree the coaster needs to be longer and feature more. But, are we already forgetting that Stealth is the *prototype*?

Yup, that space place. Arrow has worked for them in the past, and now they are working on a system that will forward cars in space along a track using LSM. I think they are still doing that. I read it somewhere recently.
Earlier, they helped design a capsule that would fit a monkey perfectly as he went up in space. I think that was about the same time-line when they met Ron Toomer..late 60's?
I think this info was published in their book, "Rollercoasters, Flumes and Flying Saucers" by Robert Reynolds. Amazon.com have it.
Simcoaster, do you like wooden coasters? If you do then what would you think would be so boring about an out & back flying coaster. Let's experience air time with a different style of coaster.
I guess the experience you have on a coaster all depends on the rider. Some would like airtime, some like to go through loops, heck, some people ride a rotor all day.
I'll be happy just to see another coaster next year.
The problem with SFO is that it was terribly designed. The midways are small, the water park has nowhere to expand, and the food is terrible. All the built were mediocre coasters and they took out flat rides. Capacity is a real problem. SF needs to learn that coasters do not make a park. Other rides are needed, like the old boat ride, the rotor, to name a few. I went there on one day this year and found 17 rides closed on that day. 17 out of 40+ rides. A flying dutchman is not needed, but it probably is something SF would do. Coasters bring in crowds, but in an already overcrowded park, people are not willing to return unless more is offered. Overall, the designs were terrible. Theming was not used to a good effect. There are to many faults with this park. Until they learn that great rides are needed, and not overhyped coasters, then SFO will never contend with Cedar Point. I've worked at CP and I realize its many faults, but with just 1 visit to SFO, I can see more faults than any park in existence. I wnat SFO to be a player, but with the screwed up management and bad designs, this park will not contend. They will alienate more people and only get first time guests. Until then, c'est la vie.
Sebastien, don't worry, they will be getting a new slew of flat rides here again soon. The rotor from what I hear is coming back, as well as the scrambler, the Rocket ships and perhaps the Scooters. The Tilt a Whirl is gone for good, its now at Wyandot Lake! Essentially, the flat ride manufacturers are booked. The Twister at Darien Lake was origanally supposed to go into SFA this year, but they moved it to darien.
Also, since SFO is a 112 year old park, It was hard to give it a distict shape then...it just grew from a picnic area. many lakeside parks in that time frame are more recangular than a circle or square. (kennywood, Euclid Beach, Chippewa)
The entance area to the Big Dipper was the entrance to the park a long time ago. You literally parked alongside the coaster. The Mind Eraser area was parking lot once.
Something else, we almost lost Geauga Lake in the 60's...We also nearly lost Cedar Point.
You also use a very good word there, Seb, "Alienate". Unfortunatly, thats a lot of what I saw this year... sadly. I know, they need to open those midways, there are some game booths that need to move way back. And they will need some sort of in-park transportation. A few of the employees need to learn how to work. I mean 4 people operating Mind Eraser, and the train still takes 5 minutes to dispatch...sheeesh!
Next year will be better, I promise.
Sebastien; give SFO a break. Theming is not everything on a ride. Actually I could care less about theming on a ride unless it's a suspended coaster or a mouse coaster. Because those types of coasters are not exciting. CP doesn't have as much theming as SFO does. The food isn't that bad at SFO, the prices are bad, $4 for a 2 liter of pop. I think that you were mistaken when you say that 17 rides were closed. I've been there 10 times this year and the most rides that were closed was 4, and that was in October. How do you like CP if you don't think SFO should get another coaster. SFO does need to expand with the paths, though.
I still don't understand why they closed off the path between the car ride and the log flume. That was a great way to bypass all the traffic that backs up between the log flume and Serial Thriller because very few people knew about it. I also think that they should have put a small hand stamp/re-admission only gate between those public pavilions and the restrooms by Mr. Hero. It would take only one or two people to operate and would have eliminated the need for the outhouses that they put in for the pavilions.
I have also heard rumors that these will be removed and relocated closer to the existing parking lot. That maybe why they didn't want to invest in something like that, but it made the park look cheap.

What do you mean "Flying Dutchman"?
