Shooting video on coasters

I like the guy on YouTube who says the person's location will be tracked from their IP address. Guess you can't be an expert at roller coasters and computers at the same time, can you?

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!

It's just enthusiasts trying to look like big men by obeying all frivilous rules at all times.

And you're precisely the reason that the enthusiast community's relationship is on shaky ground with so many parks. It's not your place to decide what's best for the rides you don't own. You're not the one who gets sued after some jackass let their cell phone loose and it bashes a woman in the face so badly that even after reconstructive surgery she's still not right (see: Villain and Six Flags).

Gonch is right. You break the rules, you're just being an asshole. Don't come to any of my events.

Nor any of my events either.

Set aside the copyright issues, forget the rules, ignore the "big man" crap...

IT'S UNSAFE!

Getting smacked by someone else's camera at 60mph is not a pleasant experience, though with some of the thick skulls I'm seeing here maybe it wouldn't hurt you as much.

There's nothing "frivilous" about it.

Haha! This post was awesome. Sums it up the best.

Yes sir....away from my parks too ;)

It's one thing to basically leave your lapbar completely up like that idiot girl at HW.

It's another thing to have a camera (smaller than you could even imagine. ((hello not being poor)) ) strapped around your wrist.

Ok, so how about this?

It's not even about safety (although it is to a degree) - it's about the park not wanting you to do it. Again, simple as that. They don't have to give a reason. They say no.

What's the mystery here?

That I'll agree with.

Since we're going down this road and I'm sure there are some out there thinking to themselves, "Self? I know shooting on coasters is safe. I have a good strap/duct tape/magic monkey that holds my camera for me." That may be fine and dandy and I honestly believe the majority of enthusiasts wouldn't ever have a problem losing their camera.

But!

Do you feel comfortable with Average Joe & Average Jill filming Average Coaster X a few rows in front of you?

One of the most terrifying moments of my life was riding Millennium Force last summer with a jerk taking pictures a couple rows ahead of me. He didn't even have the strap on his wrist and was taking pictures of himself, making it even easier for him to loose grip. It's too bad nothing could be done to him, even though the camera was visible in the on-ride photo(s).

Neuski nails it. I have NO problem with someone taking onride pictures/video if the camera is truly secure and they have permission of the park (hell, I've been there, done that). When the park is giving permission, they're ALSO checking the security of the camera (at least, the times I've been given such permission -- the PR director at Kennywood was literally standing by with a roll of duct tape at the Phantom's Revenge opening).

So, given proper verification, no problem. But on any given day, some Joe Schmoe whipping out his camera or cameraphone isn't necessarily taking any precautions. I've seen it, and it scares the stuffing out of me.

"You seem healthy. So much for voodoo."

And like Greg said, From what I seen on Utube 99 percent of them are from joe smoe.

I got two on there and both I had permission from the manager so whine all you want, If they will let me, I will, If they won't I don't and if its a matter of sneaking, I don't even think about it.

My sister has had a simlar experience, she was in the first row of a middle car on Magnum when the idiot in front of her lit up a ciggerette going up the lift. She and riders around her yelled at him to put it out but he just laughed. The entire ride she had ashes flying in her face, and her long hair. On the break run the guy was just laughing and then launched the ciggerette off onto the woodchips below while the entire train was yelling at him. When we got back into the riding platform some stranger grabbed a ride op, pointed to the guy and said this guy needs to be kicked out. The ride op immidatly held the idiot, called security and then got the story. The guy was promptly rejected, the only thing bittersweet about was that the park was closing in 20 mins.

Anyways my sister has a knack for hitting things on a coaster, hat, bug in eye, bug in mouth, even came dangerously close to being hit by a visine bottle waiting in line under the lift of Raging Bull. Stories like this irk me because I think of how they could kill someone (especially on MF) with loose objects. Admission to a theme park does not involve turning off your intelligance people!

Am I the only one who finds this sentence funny..?

Yes.
It's funny because "intelligence" is speeled wrong.
Yeah know... I even copied it down into the reply field because I figured that was the case. I guess I just didn't leave it there long enough for SpellBound to do it's work.

So, I change my answer to, No. ;)

Lord Gonchar said:POV video is the most mind numbing thing in the world - I just don't get it.

I agree whole-heartedly, I actually prefer landscape shots BY FAR.

Touchdown said:
^Actually it is, because of enthusiasses who try to sell videos of illegal POV movies. The parks see it as infringing on their product, as they do professional pictures sold from pictures taken on property.

I'm trying to think of who sells illegal POV films nowadays - there aren't many out there who sell DVDs to begin with, and a quick scan on Google and Amazon turned up nothing but legit-looking productions, am I missing something??

Also, just curious, why have I never seen people giving ACE or Moosh's calandar (if its still around) s***? Have I just missed it too?

Lord Gonchar's avatar
Not sure who is selling 'bootleg' DVD stuff anymore, seems like pretty much all the old culprits went legit, stopped or slipped out of the radar.

No idea how the ACE calendar works, but Moosh went through all the hoops, pressed every button, crossed every 'T' and dotted every...ummm...lower case 'J' to work with the parks and get their full cooperation and blessing on those calendars. That I can assure you.

Thanks, Gonch.

Jopish - S&D closed after I got a promotion and simply did not have the time required to continue. I hope to bring back a calendar someday ;)

OK, that's cool, jobs are important too ;)

"Touchdown"s comment was just weird to me, as in I figured there was a reason no one gave the calandar's a hard time (being it WAS ok by the parks, which is not what was implied)

Thanks for the reassertion.

^I didnt mean to imply that the calandars are illegal, because they aren't because the parks gave permission for them to do that.

I have read stories of people trying to sell pictures without the parks permission though.
