Six Flags Great America announced yesterday that Shockwave would be dismantled and sent elsewhere to make room for their 2003 attraction. Shockwave was chosen to take the fall after public outcry forced them reconsider the removal of Whizzer.
According to posts in the CoasterBuzz forums, B&M track has arrived at the park and sits waiting in the employee parking lot. The most popular rumor is that the track is for a flying coaster.

The ice age killed the dinosaurs, we killed ourselves.
SFKK has the airport next door so that kinda puts them out of the running, chang is right at the ceiling there.
The Great Escape isn't getting a new ride untill 2004. If it is Shockwave I will be very dissapointed. They need a GOOD ride.
If the GE did ever get it (which they wont) they would probably throw it in Jungle Land.

In 1995, Six Flags Great America took out an attraction at its park for a new and highly rated rollercoaster. The attraction they took out was a lightning rod of sorts, many people hated it, but some people liked it. A year later in 1996, the clear land around the new attraction had blossomed into a themed area like no other that was only going to expand even more.

Have a Disney day!
I would hope the rest of that comment is like the first part of yours S&Spowerhouse.
And Shockwave almost always saw less in the way of the turnstile counts as opposed to Iron Wolf.

'Where? They're bordered by Route 9 to the west, Glen Lake to the east (over the hill the Comet sits against), Round Pound Road to the south, and *protected* wetlands to the north! I'd love to know where all this land you speak of is...'

Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom, on Route 9, is approved for new rides, infrastructure improvements and a 200-room hotel to be built on 43 acres of the park's 368 acres.
id say theres definately enough room ... they have what 150, or alittle more thats been used so far, so im sure with the remaining land they can find somewhere to put it. even if some of that land is protected theres just no way all that remaining land is.

MLEM4S rules
I would like to see the area revamped, because it felt like it needed a lot of work (i.e. paint, updated scenery). However, I do like the New Orleans theme - it's not used at very many parks, and if they did it right it could be a very lively and fun part of the park, with Mardi Gras shows and stores selling beads and trinkets and things.
Any thoughts?

Okay, but again, you don't know what you're talking about! Remember, again, that The Great Escape owns all the land from the old zoo to the Exit 20 North Junction for I-87 on the other side of Route 9! That, added to the existing land the park already sits on, is where the 368 acre figure comes from.
They can't even fill Jungleland if they wanted to- it's all protected wetlands! Don't believe me? Come to FrightFest this year and look what we did down there. We have a new Haunted Marsh attraction down there, but we couldn't do ANYTHING in Jungleland! Jungleland will act as the queue line and the brunt of the attraction is placed on the maintenance road next to Jungleland because we simply can't do anything WITH Jungleland! Come to FrightFest, you'll see what I'm talking about...
Is there room for new rides at The Great Escape? Sure. Is there a space that can fit Shockwave? Not without doing a lot of removing! As for the wetlands, they're all protected.

I dont see the capital as an issue on this ride. Six Flags doesnt have a whole lot of other parks without a ride of that type. Plus, Great Escape is looking for a larger ride but I still say any ride is better than no ride but a Intamin Hyper would go nicely also..lol
For the hundredth time, The Great Escape isn't looking for a larger ride! I don't want people to start spreading rumors that they're getting something large when they're simply NOT IN THE MARKET FOR LARGE THRILL RIDES!
Everyone will see when they announce next year's new attraction-- if it even happens.
Now if you want to talk irony...
I'd find it ironic if the stupid thing did go to Somewhere in Texas, but before hand got the Premier lap-bar treatment on the trains, thus improving the ride. Then I would have a great laugh, and continue not caring very much.
If you do the process of elimination, NewYorkSuperman... The Great Escape is a front-runner for the "Shockwave" ride.
They DO want to get some major thrill rides. They want to bring back yearly tourists that visit the park. They want to bring back the locals that live in nearby Albany, Glens Falls, up to Lake Placid... as well as others.
If you read the article that John (CalvinJ23) posted, then you can clearly see that The Great Escape got boned big time with the Six Flags purchase of La Ronde, and the floorless that was going to go at The Great Escape, wound up at La Ronde as a last minute decision!! So The Great Escape WAS going to recieve a major thrill ride to brag about, and that explains the clearing that was haulted half-way through last year during the off-season.
I see The Great Escape as being a front-runner for this ride. Maybe not the only contender... but definately one who desperately needs new rides, and you can't ask for a better deal than this... all that it really will cost is the installation, transportation, theming, and re-painting! That's a pretty sweet deal for a ride that will help bring in many new patrons to that great park (no pun intended) :)
NewYorkSuperman... where do you get that The Great Escape own so much land across the street? To the immediate right, there's a nice restaurant... to the left, you got many other businesses. Are you telling me that's all owned by Six Flags inc?
