SFGAm to get new $35M waterpark, SF capex in 2005 is $90M

Batwing Fan flipflopping on what SFA gets? Vater, you should be ashamed! He hasn't bee wrong about announcing a coaster on the announcement day yet...

Waterparks are so unoriginal and, in my opinion, not all that entertaining.

Maybe to you, but a lot of people love waterparks, which is evidenced by visiting one when it's hot outside. Right now, I'd say the standard to beat is Hurricane Harbor at SFNE. That waterpark is huge and included in the admission price! There are slides everywhere you look, plus two activity pools, plus two wavepools.

ROFL, I-Fan....there is but ONE *standard-bearer* for waterparks, and it is in New Braunfels....all others can only aspire to that level of greatness...

Anybody wanna go to Schlitterbahn? :)

Ok so SFI is gonna spend some cash next year... this is good news to those who get season passes every year. Now what they should use it on is sending some of that money to the parks that have areas that look crappy and make them look nice. *cough*SFA near batwing*cough*

Watch the tram car please....
Do you think SFGAm could push the water park toward S:UF and use the little lake they had over there in the park? Or go the opposite way and remove the GoCarts for less removal of parking. If they went towards Eagle, the parking lot they would be removing is mainly for busses.

What if they took out the go karts, and Space Shuttle America (I would not miss it), and pushed into the wide open land between Viper, Raging Bull, and Whizzer. Now that wont mean to much loss in parking lot area....but might mean a rerouting of Viper's queue.

Look at it this way: we already know SFGRAM will get $35 million to add their waterpark & SFGRADV's rocket coaster can't cost more than $25 million(using TTD's total cost as an estimate, seeing as everyone think's it'll be a clone in terms of size)so that's roughly $65 million spent right there which leaves another $35 million to work with.

Now if SFGRADV's coaster is less expensive(smaller in size) then SF would have a little extra to work with for the remaining parks, now let's also look at just what some parks got in 04 & what parks aren't a prime candidate for major spending based on SFI's past spending habits.

SFDL:a lost cause because we all know SF doesn't care to add rides to the park.

SFAW: pretty much in the same boat with SFDL.

SFOG:they just got a major ride package in 04 similar to SFGRAM & a water ride was added to their water park.

SFMM:things are looking iffy for them based on 04 performance, but knowing SF they'll end up spoiled rotten as always so look for coaster # 17 to be unveiled sooner or later.

SFFT:they just added a water ride to the water park but since they're about due for something maybe this could be their year.

SFSTL: word has it that markers have been placed in the ground somewhere near the water park.

SFOT:chances are they'll get something what with their status in the big 4.

SFNE:they havn't added anything to the themepark side since 02 when B:TDK was installed.

SFA:sure they could use a new coaster but I doubt it's gonna happen,of course they could get lucky & we've all heard the stories earlier this year about a possible coaster coming in 05,however that may have changed & they might have plans to add something new to the water park or another water related ride in the themepark instead based on information I recieved on my last visit back on saturday.

So out of those parks we've got at least 3(SFDL,SFAW & SFOG) that more than likely won't be seeing any big investments in the way of rides & the others mentioned will probably be seeing something new,I forgot to mention SFNO which I think will join the list along with SFDL,AW & OG in not getting anything major in terms of new rides at this point in time.

Actually $125m -$35m = $90m. $90 -$25m (per se that SFGAdv's ride costs that much) = $65m. That is about $30m more than you figured that is left. There should be enough after SFGAdv and SFGAm for about 5-6 coasters....if they go that route.

I have to admit, I'm kind of disappointed. I was hoping 2005 would be the year SFGam would get either a B&M Floorless or other sort of mega-looping coaster to replace Shockwave. I suppose a water park makes sense from a business standpoint, but I personally have no interest in it. And considering the excellent line-up of coasters already at the park, I guess I really shouldn't be complaining.

Oh well...

:-)

Let's say that the land across I-94 is for the park, and they go ahead and build the park. What's to say that SFGAM builds that previously proposed Conference Center and includes in this facility an indoor waterpark that allows to have a year round cash cow. (Like the Dells)

I have a lot of interest in a waterpark. Do you know how much capacity that things gonna eat up? This is the one thing that the park desperately needed.

Certain victory.

'zactly Bob. Those of us who aren't typically *waterpark people* get LOADS of bennies from a new waterpark....mainly, those things *siphon off* guests like CRAZY....:)
I was hoping for a new coaster for 05

I guess I will just have to settle for a Water Park

Anything that makes for shorter lines at the rides is all good with me.

And about time, really. The waterpark market here in Chicago is wide open. Sure, the Dells are three hours north but there is nothing of any significance in the local area.

Attendance at this new park is gonna be huge.

Lets not forget that SFNO is going to get something BIG for 2005..

About the Gerstlauer comment, unless Gerstlauer recently stole Intamin's track design and support system, it is NOT Gerstlauer parts in the parking lot, especially now that the track is there.
Batwing fan,
Don't forget that SFOG has lawsuit money coming that needs to be spent at some point (and I am under the impression that they didn't spend the full amount this year, so the excess has been rolled over to 2005).

Legendary, anything you'd like to add here ;)

Actually the lawsuit money went to the investors, not the park. Six Flags is forced to re-invest a certain percent of the park's revenue every few years or they will be faced with a law suit by the same investors who sued Time-Warner. I'm under the impression that within the last few years with Acrophobia, Deja Vu, S:UF, and the family rides this year that Six Flags has invested a little more money in the park recently than required. Doesn't mean they won't see anything new in the future though.

Good point, Bob. I didn't think of that!

Cameraman...
I don't believe I specified were the money went to...

And the deal is they have to spend X amount of money (based on a formula I don't know) per year for 5 years.
