2 superheroes in Gurnee next season? Oh the humanity. :)
How long would it take to deconstruct Shockwave? It would seem like a sizable project. I agree with Godsey -- the park just won't look as good. Here's another thing nobody's mentioned. From the Yankee Harbor area, it looks great to see Condor with Shockwave's awesome loop right behind it. Now, Condor will rise above the coaster.
Here's another question: Is Shockwave really the least popular coaster in terms of # of riders? I would say Demon, Whizzer, and Shockwave are neck and neck. (I know Whizzer has lines, but its capacity is weak).

Until two years ago, I never saw Shock Wave's line cover more than half of the bridge. when it started getting longe also happened to be when they started consistantly running only two trains (keep in mind I only visit weekdays, and am not counting Fright Fest). Even still, the line generally doesn't go past the steps. Therefore, I think it's still a very low popularity ride. For the last few summers, Whizzer's line has always had all the snakes open and full, with the line going out onto the midway. I'm pretty sure that that translates into a lot more people in Whizzer's line. Now, I think that Whizzer and Shock Wave are actually comprable in capacity when Shock Wave runns only two trains, as I've pretty much only seen it doing in the past two years or so. I mean, between the difference in size ans speed put together, I think they're pretty similair in actual ride time, and Whizzer trains only have four less riders than Shock Wave trains.
As for Demon, I don't know.

i can bring down shock wave in 5.2 seconds 5..4..3..2..1.. BOOM as the shape charges cut it into small manageable peices to be hauled off to a junk yard
hee hee couldent resist
if they do decide they are moving it i hope they at least fix the sharp turn into the mid corse brakes before they open it at a different park.

Hey, I agree with Hostyl about driving in Chicago for once!
chris - Who you will never, ever, ever find on the Tri-State, even as a passenger.
Whizzer was running three trains quite a bit this year .. It was an awesome site to see!!

Hey, if you live by the lake, it's a lot faster. Actually, if you live pretty much anywhere in the city, it's probably faster. I'm just saying the Tri-State is faster if you're south of the city, which you are, if you're coming from Ohio.
Man, why can't I ever be there when they run three trains on Whizzer? I haev fond memories of it's true capacity, but haven't seen it myself in quite some time.
MagnumForce is coming from Indiana, how do you get to the Tri-State and still avoid I-80? I dont remember the Skyway going all the way over to the Tri-State.
by the way, you can *kinda* see the Ryan from the Sky Trek Tower (you have to look really hard)

The Indiana toll road feeds directly into the Skyway, which would allow you to avoid I-80/I-94 in northwest Indiana (a.k.a., the Borman Expressway). But then the Skyway feeds into the Ryan, so you're back to that problem.
I live in Gurnee, with relatives in NW Indiana, and I use both. On the weekends and late at night, I've found that the Ryan/Skyway route through the city is usually 10-15 minutes faster than taking the Tri-State. Weekdays, though, the Tri-State is usually better.
Timing is everything, however. As stated earlier, the growth of the Chicago suburbs has led to frequent congestion on all the major routes during peak hours, so the best thing you can do is plan to avoid the morning and evening rushes.

You guys can talk about Chi-Town traffic 'til you're blue in the face (the Blue Man Group, again?)....but the real PiA traffic in the U.S., North America, the World, perhaps even the Universe, is in/around L.A. Those folks must be crazy to live there! There'd be hailstorms in Hades before I'd deal with THAT traffic.....
Bill, Ganesville, 15-20 minutes each way to work, even when the students swarm like flies....
Can't believe I'm going to contribute a traffic report to this thread but....
Skyway traffic, westbound, is down to one lane due to construction. Stay off the Skyway this fall. Unless it's a weekend. And before 10:00 am. In Septmeber.
Better yet, avoid GAm for the rest of the year. Those of us in line will be ever so grateful.

Do any of you know how to build a sundial out of a pen and a donut?
uh oh, sounds like someone has a case of the mondays.
Medusafanatic - sorry, but you're wrong about SFMM's Viper. It most definitely had long lines...I waited in them. A 2 hour wait was common in the first few years it was open. While its not a coaster I'll go out of my way to ride these days I can tell you that on many of my visits this year Viper has had a line out of the station and down the ramp to the pathway. With a 2 train op that's about 45 minutes.
