Actually the waterpark is not a rumor. It is part of the proposed Six Flags Entertainment Village which also includes employee housing, conference center, and other things. It was proposed back in 1998 to the Planning Comission (scroll about halfway down on the links):

A lot of things have changed since then. Hopefully, someone else can let us know the current status.
As far as Whizzer and Demon go, as long as there are enough people to ride it, the coasters will stay. Whizzer, when I saw it this year, always had a line. The only issue with the ride is its unique powered trains/spiral lift. From what I understand, there are electric motors in each train that power the train up the lift. This is the reason that Whizzer shuts down with the slightest bit of rain. If this is indeed accurate, maybe the lift and trains can be powered by an alternate means that is more cost effective. Whizzer is a vital link in SFGAm's line of coasters.
I was able to ride Ice Mountain Splash once this year. I had hoped with the new sponsership, the ride would be open all season. When was it open? Memorial to Labor Day?

Hometown Fun Machine is original (although relocated in 1977 when Fort Fun was added). My biggest wish for next year's addition: warm water in ALL bathrooms! The only bathroom with warm water is in SW Territory!
