SFGADv announcement Sept.28

rathergoodbear. if they call security right. it takes time for them to get there. they dont run the coaster because of the danger and the ride isnt running.

people like matt then think the ride is broken and complain that the ride is down ?

see where i am going.

I am trying my hardest to stick up for the maintanance crew and the ride ops mostly. i admit there are some things they have to change.

but everybody says the rides are always down. What about the other parks the rides are down there too. Nobody complains about the other parks its always the six flags parks.

I know at least at gadv that the maintanance crew works really hard. just because a ride isnt running doesnt mean its broken. Maybe some guest are causing a problem. maybe they are understaffed. maybe somebody puked on it and the are running the ride a couple of times to air it out.

we dont know what taxes jackson and the state of nj and things like that . We dont know everything. It might not be as easy as hiring more people. there might be certain rules that six flags might have to abide by .

people keep forgetting cedar point is in a different state with different local laws. Jackson doesnt support the park that much. Maybe the locals support cedar point better.

We dont know everything and i wish people would stop jumping to conclusions. isnt it enough that gadv is adding all the rides we have been asking them to build?

lets not get my name confused w/ the "other" SFDL guy...

regardless, I am looking forward to the announcement. It seems alot of people are going for height? I'm really unsure myself...

major, that might happen a few times, but when people realize the park is serious about throwing them out of line or out of the park if they don't abide by the rules, it will happen far less often.

I don't think anybody here said or implied that the SFGAdv maintenance crew doesn't work hard. As I'm sure they work hard at every other park. But there is a difference between "maintenance" and "repair." If they want to keep having to fix rides because the GP's behavior is causing the breakage, that's up to them. Either fix the behavior or keep fixing the rides.

No matter how much a locality supports or doesn't support a park, I doubt any place will prevent a business from hiring more employees. There's a news item here about the amusement tax Kennywood is paying. There was a thread about the parking tax issue Cedar Point has to deal with. In the past few years, Knoebels has had taxation issues with the local school district. So if that's an issue, it's certainly not unique to GAdv.

Sorry, but I don't buy the understaffed idea either. If they can't or won't staff the rides they do have, what's the point of adding more? Don't they need to hire more people to operate the new rides? Or do they just take them from another ride, and let those stand unused?

tom...i'm a season passholder at SFGAdv myself...dude you need to chill! Yes the maintenance crew works hard, yes the ride ops work hard...i was a ride op myself at another local park, i know what it's like...yes it can be stressful, but with good staffing and good security, things can get done right, and have a smooth day at the park.

People complain about KK a lot because the ride is down...it's brand new, people should get over it. People don't necessarily complain as much about TTD this year, because they did all their complaining last year, when the ride operated the way KK is doing this year. Follow me?

I understand Gadv is a big park, so hire more security if it's needed to enforce the park rules better...that way, there's quicker responses to calls, and the ops would be more likely to make the calls for the smaller things, to help keep park behavior good, if there was more security around.

We're not ripping on the park, hell I love the place, even with the NYC/Philly people. There's just some things that could be worked on, that's all.

.....now back on topic...I can't wait for the 28th! There has been so many rumors about this ride...but there has been no "leaks" of information other than what we initially got months ago. Nothing new, a "layout" of sorts, but that could have changed...who knows what's going to happen with this bad boy. Also...do you all think that in this new "kiddie" section for "young thrill-seekers" there will be a new kiddie coaster as well?

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

Jim, that could be a good catch there that and a small froghopper like ride?

That would put the count at 15. Maybe they are going to make the run in a few years at the coasters in a park record.

To put my final comment on the issues at GAdv. It is staffing in all aspects that needs to be upgraded but no one in the area wants to work for what GAdv pays for any position. They need to raise pay scales then hire like crazy and that means more money needed. (bad cycle there).

My solutions raise season pass rates and do what is needed to get more employees. Now here's the reasoning. Raising season pass rates, at least$50 each chain wide (make SFA's $100 and GAdv's $125), will stop or slow the Six Flags baby sitting service. Yes, that is an extreme measure that some people here would not like but guess what. Dorney charges over 80 and has less issues, but that also is because most of the people are at the water park. Add the water park to GAdv's pass then don't make it an upcharge and have a shuttle to the waterpark from the main park. Bang crowds get a little smaller then the added staff and security help clear out the riff raff with a no tollerance policy. You don't listen to an op and you get taken out of the park. Extreme, yes. But a needed action.

Watch the tram car please....
I have been watching this thread with interest and have so far resisted the temptation to contribute. However........

Even though I live on the opposite side of the Atlantic I have visited SFGtAd five times over the last few years. I have never had a particularly negative experience there and certainly regard it as one of the better large parks in the world. I have never seen anything even approaching a fight taking place (although I have seen several in 30-odd years of visiting Blackpool Pleasure Beach), the park has always been clean (indeed earlier this year it was nothing less than pristine) and the ride operators - whilst not up to Disney standards - have always been comparable to those at any other large park in Europe or North America. As for line jumping, to be frank I saw more at Kennywood. So lots of teenagers visit do they? Well, that wouldn't be expected in an AMUSEMENT PARK would it now? Out of interest has anyone visited SF Elitch Gardens (or Torture Gardens as it should probably be known) recently? On my first visit there earlier this year I found a mediocre collection of rides in a badly-maintained park operated by half-witted and disinterested staff. I also had the dubious pleasure of seemingly meeting every low life in the state. Now THAT'S a bad park. After a couple of hours I was longing to be back in Jackson.

More importantly IMHO SFGtAd easily has the best collection of coasters in one park in the world, even before the addition of the Intamin woodie. Neither the Mountain nor the Point can hold the proverbial candle to it in this respect. Admittedly a couple of years ago Rolling Thunder was nothing to get excited about (although it was still superior to Mean Streak, Colossus or Psyclone - the latter easily being the worst wood coaster I've ever ridden). However in May 2005 it had improved significantly, presumably consequent on off-season retracking? Similarly I've never managed to get on the Batman side of Chiller, but neither have I managed both tracks on Superman or Colossus at the Mountain or on Gemini at Cedar Point. I found the latter particularly disappointing as in my view the ride experience would have been greatly enhanced had in fact neither side been operating.

The new themed area around Kingda Ka (sorry, I've forgotten its name) would not look out of place at Disney or Universal and whilst KK has obviously been disappointing in terms of first season downtime I seem to recall a certain other large park on the edge of a lake experiencing similar problems with a similar ride. I have generally found lines at GtAd to be shorter than those at either MM or CP (yes I admit I rode KK on a pre-media day junket, you've got me there) but maybe I've just got lucky.

Flame away :)

Impulse-ive said:Oh and by the way, TTD operated lightyears better than KK this year, only having two major breakdown periods, one being the one we're in now. That's just krax in his quest to bash everything Cedar Fair. And of course, he couldn't even get the name right, it's Stand Still Disaster (TM Jeff) ...

Yeah so what are your trying to say? This is KK's first year in operation, and what year is this for TTD? You really made no point there. Oh by the way KK is taller and faster so there is even more reasons why KK would have down time.

Coasters Riden - 184
All I can say is, whatever the hieght, speed, length, number of inversions, etc... this thing better work on a daliy schedule. I'm tired of going to parks and finding out the main attraction is closed. I have been pretty lucky to have travel far and ridden some major rides this year with little to no issues.

It better be more comfy than SOB, lapbars included. That coaster sucks. It's not smooth at all, and the lapbars are really painful. PKI now knows what they get when they try to hire a bad coaster company to work on such a mamoth ride. What would be cool is if SF went with the tradtional Intamin train with lapbars, then it would be really comfy.

Hey Viper:

You're still an idiot.

See, I can spell words correctly, I don't need to put in ***'s when I don't know what to call you.

:)

Two more days...any more/new ideas/leaks as to what this new Intamin AG pre-fab woodie will be? Stats/predictions etc?

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

I'm just eagerly awaiting the announcement at this point. It's very exciting. :)

With the news that there will be a wooden coaster AND new children’s area, I can't help but wonder if SFMM will take a similar approach with their new flying coaster. Maybe a new children’s area will come with that also.

Another thing, the Golden Kingdom area at SFGAdv. blew me away. It was stunning. They put a lot of effort into the area. If that's any indication on future improvements, I'm excited about the change in scenery where the new coaster/area will be along with the attractions themselves.

What I don't get is what's gonna happen to the theming on RT. It's stuck in the middle of the two themed areas and kinda cut off from Frontier Adventures. Will it be incorporated int he new area for the new coaster?

I think the area where the Taz Twister and stuff was, will be the new kiddie area..they'll probably redevelop it a bit with walkways and all, but I'm imagining that will be part of that new kiddie area. Unless they take out some of the trees near the mine train and use that as part of a kiddie area. Hell, we'll find out tomorrow :)

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

Although we know it will be a huge woodie, I think the only record it will take is steepest. Everyone knows taking a PKI woodie record isn't classy. =p
