SFGADv announcement Sept.28

sniped from Xtreme coasters...From Kristin Siebeneicher-Public Relations Manager for Six Flags Great Adventure:

" MEDIA ALERT - September 21, 2005

SIX FLAGS GREAT ADVENTURE WILL ANNOUNCE MONSTROUS WOODEN ROLLER COASTER

AND NEW KIDS' AREA FOR 2006

When:
Release date - Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005

What:
Six Flags Great Adventure, the World's largest regional theme park,
will soon announce the details of its dramatic 2006 expansion plans.

The announcement will include an enormous, record-breaking wooden
roller coaster -- the park's first new wooden coaster since 1978. One
of two newly-themed areas - the park's third section devoted to
children - will focus solely on families with exciting pint-sized
adventures for the littlest thrill seekers."

Does "monstrous" and subsequent description indicate a record breaker in terms of height? *** Edited 9/21/2005 4:16:15 PM UTC by JDB***
Hmmmmmm, I wonder if Beast Fan will see that the BELOVED Beast's record will BE broken?

Katie, who can't wait for the announcement!

The the rumors I have heard at the park. The answer would be not height (rumors I have heard put that at 180-200'). Drop is the record breaking item they are talking about.

"Montrous" may be a clue to the name? Maybe they are going with Jersey Devil :)

Awesome, can't wait. I was thinking about something, though. Do you guys think Six Flags planned on doing this just one year after Ka to offset any "bad vides" that the downtime on the ride caused. I'd say that is a very good idea and will certainly help next year, even though I suspect Ka will be running better as time goes on. Oh yeah, and frickin' paint and fix up Rolling Thunder. It's a good ride and it'll look like @!#$ next to the new woody in its current state.

SOB has a 214 foot drop.

Are they really going to top that from 180 feet up?

Yes I'm thinking more along the lines of record breaking drop, I just couldn't see SF taking care of a woody bigger then the beast. Even with this being the plug n play type track, I still don't think SF would want to take care of something as big as beast...but I could be wrong can't wait until the 28th
I think there is gonna be a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop and go under the walk way and come back up by the lake so the path to Medusa can still be used.

Thanks,
DMC

*sigh* Why can't they spend the money on fixing up the coasters they have? (Both sides of Rolling Thunder running? Both sides of Chiller?)

SFI is like a set of bad parents who keep having kids when they can't even take care of the ones they already have. Anybody know of a birth control pill for corporations? ;)

"One of two newly themed areas"

So one is the new kiddie section and that means we're getting a retheme on another section, or what?

Tigger both sides of RT have been running this season. Word is Batman was close to be operational on Chiller.

Looks like a multicoaster deal with Intamin was signed. KK and the new wooden coaster.

I meant drop angle... not drop length sorry. It's not breaking the US record only. It's going to be world record angle and not by a degree or two.

GADv Lover maybe they include the Golden Kingdom as the second newly themed area. since it is new for this season? Kind of a semantic thing? *** Edited 9/21/2005 5:34:31 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***

Anyone think the record might be 2 loops on the woody. I'd hate to see that but I think SF is crazy enough to try and make a double looping woodie.

Thanks,
DMC

Oh, I see.

That'd be an interesting marketing angle (pun not intended) to take.

So this is pretty much going to be a near-vertical drop coaster? The steepest wooden drop is 70 degrees, right? So it would be a 75 degree drop or more, perhaps? Interesting...

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

They're going to announce N:TEPE.

Why near vertical when then can go completely vertical!

Intamin. Vertical drop.

Oh no! The first woodie with OTSR'S! ;)

(well, they did it to KK, didn't they?)

That would be UGLY and probably painful as ever.

Yeah...I definitely wouldn't want a woodie with OTSR's. I wouldn't mind a vertical drop with good lapbar restraints. Kinda like those on Nitro or some other comfy coaster.
