SFDL officially announces in less than 24 hours!

Well, I guess Six Flags should dump all their money into SFDL then, right? I think the good people near SFEG would have something to say about your comment of SFDL being the most neglected....be happy you have superman!

I said I was happy I had superman

SFDL NEEDS A GOOD EXPANSION!!!!!!!

Seriously...who cares?  Obviously nobody really cares about the chute the chutes, so why get worked up thinking it's something else/more?  How dare people want to go on a water ride and not a coaster!
-----------------
Is it the roar of Kumba or the kumba of Roar? Discuss!
I was just at its website and it said 1 day remaining. But the funny thing was that I voted for Superman as the best ride, and when it came up with the results it said "whats new for 2002? Shipwreck Falls" and yet it didn't say on the main page.

SFDL NEEDS A GOOD EXPANSION!!!!!!!

Yup, over new years I drove from north Hollywood to SFMM in 45 minutes.  Definately the middle of nowhere.

Yup, last summer, coming from the south, i got to SFGAdv in 2 and a half hours (very reasonable).  Granted, I went through DC, Annapolis, Baltimore, and Philly to get there.  Of course, coming from the north there is this little town called New York City.  I really felt completely removed from civilization, let me tell yah.

Idle hands were orient to her.

You DLers and EGers complain too much what about the poor folks whose home parks aren't even "good" enough to be called a Six Flags?

P>Well, in my opinion Jeff, S:RoS at sfdl has very little "staying power".  In comparison to other hyper coasters, it is average at best and is by no means a coaster that can draw people season after season like a ride such as millenium force, S:RoS at SFNE, Raging Bull or Apollos Chariot do.   Then, when you factor in that sfdl does NOT have another really good coaster, it puts more pressure on S:RoS to be a centerpiece ride, which it just simply isn't.   /P>

This is really simple, people:  SFDL will get another coaster when the park feels its time for one *and* when SF corporate appropriates funds for it.  It may be next year, it may be in six years.  I suggest evryone just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy what the park offers until that day comes.

You guys need to stop thinking like coaster enthusiasts. Superman is a 200-foot coaster that certainly thrills the locals. The general public doesn't drive six hours to ride coasters like we do, so Superman does just fine.

Besides, you're missing the obvious question... does Darien Lake make its operating budget? I'm guessing it sure does.

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

Uhggggg. Does anyone else find themselves becoming increasingly irritated with every response that you read? I do. There's way too much ignorance floating around.
I do believe SF has spoiled these kids, I wish most of these teens where around when you got a coaster very 5-10 years at a park like this. Just go back and look at DL before they where turned in a SF how often they got coaster's.

Army Rangers lead the way

There are some parks which never add a major coaster, only minor improvements, and locals seem to be just fine with that. Blackpool, Santa Cruz Boardwalk and a few of the Cedar Fair parks. I love rollercoasters, but sometimes I have to kick myself to remember that there is FAR more to life, let alone an amusement park.
-----------------
Have you ever considered that maybe it's not the park that's the problem, but YOU?
Look at it this way: How many other SF parks have an ON SITE hotel and over 2000 campsites at it. None(That I know of). That means that they can make more money than any other SF park. If they put in some more big rides you would be surprised the people that would go and stay there and that means that all the money those people spends goes to the park. So financialy they can build more and they also have a reason to.(I have a feeling that a lot of the money SFDL has made is going to parks like SFMM and SFGA)

Well, I hate to switch gears here for a bit, but to actually get back on topic... Six Flags Darien Lake has officially released what is now going to be new for '02

*** Shipwreck Falls- sounds like it WILL be very nicely themed in the location 95% of us predicted (former waterslides).
*** SLINGSHOT- Pernament Slingshot that will be 300' at max height as opposed to 200 feet from the portable model last year (new upcharge attraction #1)
*** TURBUBUNGEE-Bungee Trampoline attraction jumping up to 20' high (new upcharge attraction #2)
*** New Food Stand! (Smoked Turkey Legs)
*** New N*SYNC wanna-be show
*** New Laser Light Show (Of course!)

I guess it's not horrible, but also not terribly exciting either. Only 1 real new ride, and even with that... you have to like to get wet in order to enjoy it. It would be nice if they threw in some older used rides that aren't worth mentioning in this package!!

Your logic is completely off here.  Just because they have a place to stay there doesn't mean that they can make more money then, say, SFGAdv, because SFDL still doesn't have the market (or the capacity) to support that many people entering the park every day.

Idle hands were orient to her.

Sorry to be cynical but these type of topics are getting so redoundant. No one is bringing up anything original, just seems to be a lot of whining.  Jeff just keeps repeating the same logical message of lack of competition, it's a very valid point yet it seems like still some people don't understand it. I would like to add one point that has not be mentioned in this discussion, the fact that Six Flags has most of the upper NY and Canada area covered with the addition of La ronde, and also the Great Escape. The only other major park in that region of Paramount's Canada wonderland, there is enough people in the region to sufficiently support all four of these parks.(3 SF and PCW) Yet I think the potential for attendance increase at these parks are not as great as other SF parks, or it is close to being reached.

Ok, what's new for 2003?? I can't wait!!...

DuffGardens: I Just mentioned exactly what SFDL is getting this year. Look up a few posts and you will see.

AArrgghh... am I invisable or something? ;)

Gee maybe instead of *****ing about eveyone and everything we could make comments on the OFFICIAL additons sfdl is getting?  A nicely themed ride and a super huge*****sling shot (which i think is better than an s+s total insanity) sounds good to me! But smoked turkey legs....i'm not so sure about that one.
