Darien Lake has had a on-site hotel since around 1994! The photo is of the actual hotel (you can see Superman in the background). The site you were looking at was BEFORE the '02 announcements took place.
SFDL has been the first for close to a decade with the only one with on-site hotel & campgrounds.
The update should be up very soon. (if not already)

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"
Paramount Canada's Wonderland with like 12 or 13 coasters is barely a 90 minute drive from the Buffalo Niagara area (depending if you drive like an American or Canadian on their highways)... and they advertise a LOT here in the Buffalo market.
There are several other smaller parks which start to offer a little competition as well... or at the very least... a cheap alternative that can draw people away such as free parking, better waterpark, etc.
Those parks include Martin's Fantasy Island, Marineland in Canada, and Seabreeze in Rochester... to a much lesser extent, Waldameer Park in Erie, PA. However, without their new wooden coaster to show off for 2002... I would discount them as competition.
Either way you look at it, they have the resources (well, not financially), and they have all given reasons. Sure, we only have a little over a million folks in the entire Western New York region, but if you add in Southern Ontario & Toronto(where SFDL is also advertised a LOT), then you actually got a very large market.
...and believe me... Six Flags in Montreal is MUCH, MUCH further away... so it's their closest Six Flags park!
...isn't that a big enough market??

You guys need to realize that Buffalo isn't exactly the biggest market, and there isn't any competition. What real incentive does the park have to add a coaster every few years? Superman is simply awesome, and it will have a lot of "staying power" for years.
Why? Because it's their park and they need a new coaster every single year dammit!

Is it the roar of Kumba or the kumba of Roar? Discuss!
