Ric Flair was hitting on the female host, he told her - "Space Mountain may be the oldest ride in the park, but it has the longest line." WOOOOO!
Lets see, I had ridden about 50 different Arrows before shockwave including the NEVER TO BE RIDDEN AGAIN Drachen Fire. (Which I loved BTW)
Me and my brother arrived around the park to Shockwave at about 8:40pm and chose car 2 seat 1. Lets just say we got back to the station, Looked at each other and said HE** YES! That was INSANE!
There was nobody waiting for our seat so we rode again, And again, And again, and again till the 9pm closure.
Being Arrow veterans we never once got banged by keeping our heads firmly against the left side of the restraint.
I must say, I will wholy miss this coaster and hope it is at least moved to another park.
I do however prefer it's removal over Whizzer because there are no other Whizzers in North America but there is no other Shockwave either. Gasm at SFGadv is not near as intense and I got bashed pretty good on Gasm.
Chuck, who really don't want any coaster removed cause what is not your style is somebody elses bread and butter.

I don't know if this is qualified as a good hint or not, but it is reported that the chain and rolling stock(s) have recently been removed from ShockWave's track circuit.
Doesn't sound like your everyday maintenance to me, especially during the peak of summer.

Seeing Shockwave for the first time in 1993 was what turned me from a guy who likes coasters to a full-fledged enthusiast. I will miss it.
Riding Whizzer for the first time last year, I thought it was kinda neat, but.... I won't ride it again.
Bad choice, Six Flags. I say, build over, around and on top of.

Whatever replaces Shockwave will be better than Shockwave. There, I said it!
All apologies to those loyal to Shockwave... I used to love that ride, but it became too painful over the years. Just keep in mind what rides now stand where Z-Force, Tidal Wave, and Rolling Thunder once stood.
Not that I'd mind having Tidal Wave in addition to Batman. Man, that ride was great...
True, I kinda wonder how different Shockwave would have been had it been in a better location. That parking lot just doesn't do much for the ride.
Regardless of the motivation behind SFGAm's decision, I love it and give them due credit to responding to the fans ("planned" response or not, it doesn't matter to me).
Coasterdude, we can be sure this announcement was in the works before the closing of Shockwave. This isn't the kind of thing that somebody just sits down and decides in one night or even a few -- it takes some foresight. My guess is that they were playing their cards and had been holding this one for well over a month, but that's just a guess...

PLEASE READ: This post wasn't meant to offend or anger anyone; I apologize in advance if it does. So please don't post a reply just to rant about it. :)
Whizzer is a family ride, something little kids can ride w/ their parents or grandparents. It was smooth and fun without being scary and it was less intense than the woodies at the park. It was the perfect ride to introduce small kids to the world of coasters.
Shockwave was not a coaster that the typical family could enjoy together. By mere appearances the ride was intimidating. Many people, especially older folks, are put off by inversions and, more importantly, headbanging and roughness. I am not trying to insult old people, my 65 year old Dad is a coaster enthusiast but as he's gotten older he's had less tolerance for inversion.
I think if the park had to make a choice between Whizzer and Shockwave that they made the best choice. Your mileage may vary.
Besides, Shockwave will see life at another SF park.
