Another reason for removing trees when added a new ride is the fact that trees can fall down onto the tracks causing expensive clean-up and possibility of fixing damaged portions of the ride. I'm sure they try to appease the lawyers by doing this since it cuts down on them being liable for it when the possible danger is known. Cedar Point is prone to some freakish weather conditions during the summer. This past summer there was a massive storm that knocked down trees all over the park, within some ride low zones, and actually onto portions of a few rides.
I love the atmosphere of the back of the park. Working back there this summer really gave me an appreciation for how much more laid back and relaxed it is compared to the front of the park. There is some nice shade back between Antique Cars and White Water landing too. Those massive trees within 'Tiques are some of the oldest, if not the oldest on the peninsula. It would be a shame to see them go. Hopefully, if they remove Antique Cars to add a coaster they will design around the those trees.
I think that the only types of rides that would fit within that space would be a moderate sized wooden coaster, or a modestly painted B&M flyer themed to an eagle or another similar animal. I would lean towards a flyer since it could be painted to fit into the area, the box spine could be filled with pea-gravel to silence the roar of the trains, and it could be a record breaker at just over 100 feet tall, so it wouldn't be too obnoxious. Mean Streak would still be the tallest in the area. I don't see why it couldn't work...I just ask for them to preserve those huge trees. Screw the lawyers...
