Rumors of the removal of GL's X-Flight

I was talking to my coaster buddy about it, we both kinda feel that GL is trying to expand the water park and make it more of place where you go for the day to go in the water, and then at night ride the rides.

I think they should take down SV, send the parts to Vallyefair/PKD, and add a water coaster or some sort over that way.

I just can't see why [most] everyone can't ditch the "enthusiast" mindset, and look beyond the removal of a [pile of stinking crap] single roller coaster, and see that this is what Geauga Lake needs.

They still have 9 roller coasters, including some pretty good wooden coasters and Villain (which hopefully should be in good shape next year or 2) so, that really should fit the bill. When it was SFO/SfWoA, it tried way too hard to be a competitor of CP, and it failed miserably at it. Geauga Lake needs to get back to what it does best, and that's being a small-ish traditional-ish family amusement park.

Raven-Phile, I never waited for more than fifteen minutes for X Flight and that was at the height of the season. Well, if they wind up moving Dominator and Thunderhawk next, then I'll have no reason to visit GL. I'm just not that much into water parks.

I dont think this ride is going to Michigan. For one, it has to cost a TON of money to maintain this coaster.....something that mia does not have a lot of. 2'nd, think about it....would a ride like this gell into that park?

I think its going to end up at one of the paramount parks as a themed coaster...maybe end up at pki.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

...and yet X-Flight will live on in another park, and GL continues to operate...

So much for "the curse of the gator".... :)

edit: Have to wonder if CF execs. aren't reading the disappointment from *enthusiasts* and thinking..."aha, this IS the direction we need for GL to take".

Families first HAS to be the rule if GL is to succeed. The people who frequent this board (myself included) are NOT the people they need to make money at GL - for the good of the bottom line at CF, *we* should be heading to Sandusky instead...

The Park Manager doesn't know where it's headed, B.S! How about refueed to comment on?
Bryan Edwards is just one of the PR guys, and trust me, they're on a need-to-know basis. I'm sure he doesn't know.

The park suffered years of declining attendance under SF? again B.S! 2001 had almost two million visitors with a slight drop in 2003.
Even the defunct AB numbers (which were wrong) showed a 7% drop to 2 million. If I remember correctly, Cedar Fair said in a conference call at some point after the acquisition that it was far, far lower, like 1.6 or less. *** Edited 11/22/2006 6:08:36 PM UTC by Jeff***

Does this mean they're going to expand the RV parking area?

Going back to 2000, you had two parks building supersized coasters - MF and SOB. How was little ol' Geauga Lake going to make a statement with coasters of their respective size and dimensions elsewhere in the state? Flag it and add four beasts of their own. SF really had no choice in the matter as everyone would have flocked to the other parks.

While many may deem X Flight a piece of crap it really was the only ride that offered an expereince not found at the Point or Kennywood and that's why it's rather odd for that coaster to be chosen for removal. If anything Steel Venom had a better shot since Wicked Twister is at CP and that Venom had that major break down back in July.

I would not be surprised if Steel Venom and Dominator were next on the chopping block, leaving Villain and Beaver Land Mine Ride as the last remnants of the SF conversion.
Thunderhawk and Head Spin would still classify as family type coasters.

Also farewell to the Bellaire Express, which sat dormant pretty much all last season.

Say what you will, I enjoyed SFWOA and could spend a couple days, Im outta there in about 5 hours now.

Chuck

X-flight will probably end up at Kings Island. They are already clearing land behind the Racer. I think it will happen, except an announcement soon.
^Now now we're kinda jumping the gun here. All we know right now is that the ride is being removed from GL but it might very well sit in storage on the property for a couple seasons while CF decides where to send it.

Of course you're hoping that it comes to PKI,just about everyone within driving distance of a CF park <aside from PCAR & PGA> is hoping it comes to "their" homepark but the truth is we just don't know yet where it's going at this point in time.

That's quite a change of pace for someone who thinks that every single ride in existence should go to SFA.

It wouldn't have been any different if it weren't for Geauga Lake no longer being owned by Six Flags and Six Flags America didn't already have Batwing. ;)

It wouldn't make much business sense to take it down and store if for years. If you're going to spend the money disassembling the thing, you might as well spend a little more and get it back up and running where it can help attendance and revenues.
Yup, In essence CF got the ride for free and paid land value only (If that) For the park.

The ride isn't helping attendance at Geauga. So for a couple million you can give another park a 15 million installation marketing it as NEW for 2007.

Hopefully they have Premier work on the trains like they did for Borg and get em more OPERATIONAL. If not, It will be a big headache for any park that gets it and a capasity nightmare for a large park.

Chuck

It really pisses me off that CF doesn't seem to be doing jack for Carowinds 35th anniversary, but are probably moving XFlight to Kings Island, as if they need something new. When was Italian Job, 2005? Laaaaaaaaaame.

The thought nobody's given is moving it to Cedar Point for the New For 2008 attraction. It's unlikely, absolutely, but it's not impossible. They don't have a flyer.

and you got Borg, Laaaame

PKI got a lazer show for it's 35th so quit whinning, Id trade you TOP Gun for any coaster at PKI.

Chuck

Laser show? Wtf?
for a month in 2002 we had a lazer show on the fountain and tower each night, That was the big thing for the 35th anniversary

Chuck

I did some thinking on what park in the chain might receive this ride and this is the short list that I came up with...

First let's get rid of the ones that it WON'T go to:
GL - they're loosing it :)
VF - getting Renegade
CP - getting Maverick
DP - getting new waterslide complex
KBF - getting MACK spinner coaster
PCar - has one BORG (the former PGAm's STEALTH)
PCW - they have a Volare

Now that leaves:
PGAm - probably won't get it as they just lost Stealth
PKI - maybe, but it's in the same state as GL
MiA - too small of a fan base
PKD - perhaps, but they just got Italian Job
WoF - perhaps, but they just got Patriot
