Rumors of the removal of GL's X-Flight

Has anybody heard stuff here? Rumor has it they begun to remove speakers and stuff from the station and began to remove the "runway" q-line. I guess next week there may be some dissemble going on...

It's been noted that Forest City has been spotted (the company who erected the ride) and some paramount and CF executives as well at the ride lately.

Is this the end for X-Flight?

Oh, and Venom may not be around either due the "problem" it had.

No need to bash me for this news, just thought id pass the rumor/news along and see if anybody else has news.

Remove X Flight? Thats seems odd, Venom makes sense they have a ride nearly like it at CP so its not something that draws but X Flight? That just doesnt make any sense.

2022 Trips: WDW, Sea World San Diego & Orlando, CP, KI, BGW, Bay Beach, Canobie Lake, Universal Orlando

The thing is an upkeep nightmare, no? While I'll believe it when I see it, the rumor is within the realm of possibility.

I'd have a harder time believeing that Steel Venom is going bye-bye. Sure it has had a few problems, but they can be made to run well.

Well this is what I heard, and the fact Kinzel mentioned lately that "GL's footprint is too large for what it brings in" doesn't sound too assuring either.

Venom's removal is not due to Wicked Twister, but the fact that the ride tore itself apart more then people think. (Destroyed the LIM's, brakes, and chassis). Which is why it was down the last month or two.

But I am just relaying some info, whether true or not... I can see it though.

The more I think about it, moving X flight would be a cheap way to give a Paramount park a big, perhaps unique to the area new attraction. Obviously Great America and Carowinds are out though :)

Shoot, put it in Canada's Wonderland and it will look like the greatest ride in the world compared to Tomb Raider :)

Just so I don't get blamed for the removal... ;)

And Peabody, compared to Tomb Raider, every ride at PCW is great...compared to Volares in general, the flying coasters from Vekoma are absolutely BLISSFUL.

If it were mine to move, I might just drive it down to Southern Ohio where it would replace that HUGENDOUS pile of timber which is causing CF another headache they don't need... ;)

Hey, this is cool, how come I wasn't around this whole enthusiast gig when SF's ride rotation plan was in full swing... :)

Putting it in PKD and enclosing it would be kinda fun too, since it would complement the LIM-bowl-in-a-box to provide another sweet contrast to SFA... :~P

If it were to be relocated PKI would be the best candidate. PKD would be out of the question seeing as how SFA has an exact clone a mere 2 hours north, save for the paint job.

I'm not buying this one at all, sure would be sweet if they did scrap the ride & sent a train or two off to Maryland though.

Sure would be sweet if they scrap the ride period. Don't relocate that piece of junk, put the coaster out of its misery, TAER IT DOWN!!!!1111!! ;)

Any chance track could be removed to take the trains off for off season maintenance?

A day at the park is what you make it!

I don't get the overwhelming hate for Flying Dutchmen... they're not perfect and mechanically suspect, but even BORG - when it's running well - is a fun ride. I dunno why anyone would be stoked about X-Flight leaving.

While not quite clones, exactly, both parks do have Premier spaghetti bowls, and it wouldn't be the most unheard of thing in the world for 2 coasters that similar to be that close. Lake Compounce and SFNE both have boomerangs, for example.

Not saying the PKD thing is a likely scenario (far from it) but stranger things have happened.

X-Flight is being moved to PGA ;)
I personally think it is a good idea to relocate X-Flight and/ or Steel Venom.

When it comes to X-Flight, I think you need to look at which park the ride would seem most innovative. I think it would be logical to rule out the following parks:

  • CP
  • PKI - It's just too close to GL and the concept wouldn't be as impressive to the public.
  • PKD - again not as notably novel with Batwing in the same region.
  • Carowinds/Great America obviously Borg/Stealth
  • Knotts - Tatsu, is in the same area

This does leave Dorney, PCW, and Valleyfair! but my top two choices would be WOF and MiA.

Both parks could benifit with X-Flight, having the market where the ride would have a "never been seen before" reaction by the public.

Prowler. Opens May,2 2009.

^ I see someone else has heard about the conversion of Ragoon Refresher next year at WoF (looking at your sig line). :)

That's not all that is going to happen at WOF for 2007

Removal of X Flight would be the most ridiculous thing they could do to GL. It's basically the only unique ride they have and it continues to be very popular there.

Steel Venom, OTOH, I can see removed and not only because of the "incident" that happened to it but the fact that ride has to cost a lot of money just to power the LIMS alone (plus CP having Wicked Twister).

X Factor

Factoid: Paramount Parks originally purchased X-Flight for PKI. It was to replace the Antique Cars in 2000. When they started the SOB project, the plan was scrapped and Six Flags bought the ride.
Steel Venom would be nice at Dorney, and there were always those Dorney impulse rumors... but if they're taking it down for mechanical issues, putting it up somewhere else doesn't seem logical.

Gives new meaning to Enthusiass.

Nothing wrong with that ride than it's sensors. premier I think redone stealth when it moved to PCAR and I've heard it's pretty reliable and well liked.

Ironic would be if they moved it to PGA. PKI don't need it.

Fill me in...what "incident"?

Sorry for the ignorance........

All that is known was that during morning test runs back in July something on the train caused some serious damage on the track, which had the ride closed for the rest of the season, with half the train sitting on the platform.

Surprised no one mentioned moving X Flight to Worlds of Fun even though they just got Patriot. Disassemble, repaint, refurb, and move to a region that doesn't have a flyer for miles. Would be a big draw there.
