Rumors boil towards "Inferno" to PKI...

I think Bob Coker has been pretty emphatic that "Inferno" has nothing to do with the KCKC site, but I have something to say about the whole thing:

Bottom line, PKI needs more thrill rides other than coasters. This is a good move for PKI.

Well Top Spin is an interesting thought, not exactly my choice of a flat ride to put inside and give the whole light/fog/music show to, but still an interesting ride.

It would fill a void in PKI's lineup, meaning that outside of Drop Zone, PKI's flat rides all harken back to at least the early 80's in terms of vintage. (Maybe not their actually installations but I mean vintage of the ride types) Top Spin could fill the void by giving the park a modern era flat ride. (Yes, I know they tried with Flight Commander).

As it is now, the flat rides at PKI are:

+ Swinging Pirate Ship
+ Monster
+ Scrambler
+ Dodgems
+ Wave Swinger
+ Troika
+ Flying Skooters
+ Antique Cars
+ Carousel

The rest of the rides are coasters, simulators, water rides, and the occasional tower ride.

Classics yes, and they leave little wonder as to why at a NAPHA function last fall, they were quoted as saying PKI is the themer that has the best 'old time park feel', but the riding public needs to see something new and different in the flat ride department as well.

Cincinnatians see these rides at their local carnivals and wonder why "that big name park' can't get one.

PKI needs more flat rides, maybe not as headliner attractions, but they do need to stongly consider sliding some in. (But keep yer hands away from the Flying Skooters)

To answer the question about intensity of a Top Spin.

Top Spin is a ride that is widely adjustable so it resembles anything between an odd looking Ferris Wheel, to "They aren't really putting people on that thing". So to answer your question they can set it to suit whatever audience they hope to reach with it.

Regarding the idea of revitalizing Rivertown with the 2002 expansion. I would think Rivertown is the area to start sending your crowds. For a long time Rivertown was 'untouchable' because of the Beast and 'water ride row' already saturating that part of the park. Now that KCKC is gone, and the Log Flume is now a resident of Nick, and Beast just doesn't seem to be as popular as it once was, its time to start reminding people that Rivertown is still there. However about looping a midway going from 7th Portal to the Beast, have you per chance seen the topography of that area? Verry rough rugged terrain they would have to overcome, though I do like extending the midway back towards Beast along the new access road, and maybe taking voer the former site of the Nature Trail. They could even reroute Beast exit so that it follows the original exit path and dumps people out into this new area.

Just some ideas, I do see some master planning going on, think about it:

1) PKI has revitalized Adventure Village into Action Zone. Pre-Action Zone, this was a sleepy 'dead' section of the park.

2) PKI has revitalized Kiddie Land (it may have taken several phases to get what they wanted, but ya have to admit, that PKI'd childrens areas should be the envy of most any other park)

3) PKI has revitalized Water Works, sure that wave pool may be a dud, but the Water park has greatly expanded.

4) PKI is now presumably working on renewing Rivertown.

This leaves Coney, Oktoberfest, and International Street to be re-done. Oktoberfest needs attnetion most the next, it is merely that land that folks have to walk through to get from Action Zone to Coney. Yes, Adventure Express is an awesome asset to Oktoberfest (or is it officially an Action Zone ride?????). But the Festhaus has been ruined, and the area just seems dead, before Festhaus used to be a focal point of the park, when it featured live entertainment.

Dave "Still pushing for that new themed area back behind Racer" Bowers

Coasterville Dave is right in many aspects. PKI needs some modern flat rides. Their coaster collection is very strong, but its great to take a break from coaster riding.

Oktoberfest is in dire need of attention. When the park opened, it had a great German feel, with many themed flat rides and a galaxi coaster. One by one, this section has been whittled down. Some nice rides that would fit the themeing of that section would be the return of bayern kurve, a himalaya and a matterhorn, but i don't see PKI adding older flat rides unfortunately. The wave swinger would fit perfect in this section with the paintings of the european ladies on it, and would look much better sitting by some water.

Best place to expand the park is area around Flight of Fear, looping back to the FX Theatre. Outerspace theming?

One other area that can stand something installed is the area where the closed Auto Livery sits, across from it, and where the Saltwater Circus used to stand. This is just a long walkway back to the Beast as is. *** This post was edited by super7 on 6/20/2001. ***
I`m sure that whatever PKI builds will be well liked and attract visitors. Stop speculating about the new ride and just wait for an anouncement! I`m sure the people at PKI know what they`re doing and will continue to provide a great park with extreme thrills far into the future. Until the anouncement, enjoy the world`s tallest gyro drop, fastes, tallest and only looping wooden coaster, as well as the world`s longest wooden coaster, only at Paramount`s Kings Island!

Stop speculating? I don't think this thread is about random guesses at what PKI will get. PKI wants speculation to be around their new attractions and it usually brings more people into the park and interests them to see and think about what it might be. So, since I will be going to PKI tomarrow, not today, I don't think I'm going to have fun just thinking about the rides(although, yes, I'm very excited about going, I like to see what the ideas of others are for the future). Thank you.
Would it be possible to extend the midway from the KCKC site around and behind train station and exit where Whitewater Canyon does? But I personally would love to see some type of coaster wind through that area.
Ravenguy98, although Bob said last week that he didn't think that INFERNO was to go on the former KCKC site, he has since found out that it will. He'll state that on his update this week. I was hoping that it wasn't, that way we could all be sure of another attraction.

Jacob
I have one thing to say about this. I hope that inferno isn`t the only ride they add for their 30th anniversary, who knows, Inferno could be only one of a few rides placed on the KCKC site. They have better places to place a flat ride. For example, the former dolphin show, behind the Eiffel Tower, is the perfect spot for a flat ride. I can`t wait to find out all the details on PKI`s new ride!! I wish it was July 2nd. But then, I`d be wishing away my vacation to Paramount`s Carowinds.

I just can't see a flat ride going on the KCKC site. There are tons of other places to build a flat ride, "Inferno" would probably go a good way in destroying the rivertown theming, and frankly, who wants a big building sitting next to the Beast?
Well, I suppose a big building is better than a coaster be built by the helix of the beast. For all we know, the inferno ride, might have been information purposly leaked to coaster enthusiasts, so that they will totally be blown away when the anouncement comes. (one can hope!)

I would bet anything that if the inferno stuff is true, it won't be the only attraction for 2002.

You know, I was thinking that what if PKI is putting in 3 attractions. If you look at the 3 signs they say three different things. Each sign could point to a different attraction. Here is the three different signs with my speculations:

1. Visit PKI in 2002 for an "Adventure of a Lifetime"; This could be some type of coaster. If you read the park's media center on their website about SOB it says that you will have an "adventure of a lifetime" on the coaster.

2. An Exciting New Adventure Arrives at PKI in '02; Could be a water coaster, I don't know.

3. The 3rd sign says something about new thrills in 2002.; This could be the INFERNO rumor.

What do you think about this speculation.

BEASTmaster, that's not too far fetched. It would be a very "Disney-esque" thing to do - forshadowing three attractions with three signs.

I don't think it's correct, but it's definitely a possibility.

Jacob
hey lets look at the rumor CLUE from thrillride.com:

"He said that it would be a ride with two large pole like towers with seats attached to them... he said that the towers would swing the seats upside-down and invert the passengers... He mention that they had something similar at Canada's Wonderland..."

at first i thought of a 4D coaster but not no more..i think this is just one attraction of many because

Reason #1: Its there 30th Anniversary
Reason #2: Has a lot of space in that KCKC area
Reason #3: the sign mentioned "New Thrills in 2002" see how it says THRILLS with an S at the end.. means more than one.

HEHE i know people dont agree o well
Nice idea BEASTMaster. I wouldn't at all be surprised if they had a big expansion on Rivertown for next season. If you look at the passed 10 years of both PKI and CP(which probobly get near the same amount of income each year- guessing of course), it looks like CP had made some larger additions money-wise than PKI(MF, Raptor, PT, Mantis, Mean Streak v. FOF, DZ, FO, SOB, TG, and AE-the rest pretty minimal). So, it could be possible they have a lot saved to make a larger amount of attractions for their anniversary. That's how I see it being possible. Plus, the merchandising at PKI probobly is a little more fierce than CP. Probobly. Let's hope this is how they're thinking. And lap bars on Vortex. ;)

Over at URC, there was thread about PKI 2002, something about hints, and a poster(Shaggy) responded with this actually referring to what BEASTMaster had to say about each sign for three new attractions:

"That is a fun thought. No one is really POSITIVE about the amount of new attractions slated for next year at PKI. There is however, some very valid information floating around about the new attraction. The general word is, PKI has dropped enough hints to steer guessers away from what is actually happening."

He also said that July 2nd is definitely the date of the announcement at 10:30 AM. Leaves some to think about.

Danny
July 2nd is a sure thing, or at least that's what I've heard from PKI.

Should be interesting...

Jacob - Who's becoming pretty sure there is more that's gonna happen than we think.
Well, it sounds to me like an anouncement will be made July 2nd. The poster from URC (Shaggy) I believe works at PKI. He has said that the new ride will be big. I`m beginning to think that PKI might have purposfully leaked the information on "inferno" as a cover-up to get people disapointed about 2002. Then to surprise people they`ll anounce a new coaster. (One can hope!) How long whould it take to build a building for a flat ride? I can`t wait till July 2 and hope that I`m surprised and happy when they anounce. Whatever it is it will have to be big for them to anounce this early. Keep in mind that the park anonced the Beast in July, the year before it opened. Just some food for thought.

I haven't talked to Shaggy for quite a while, but unless he was hired recently, he doesn't work at PKI. But apparently, he has some serious connections. Hey new about Son Of Beast long before the announcemnt....

Im actually proud of PKI for keeping such a tight lid on this. I knew for a while most of their major attractions about a month or two ahead of time, and this one I cant get a beat on whatsoever. I just checked on the construction today, and there is not a single thing going on, unless you call mixing water with dirt (rained pretty hard today, emptied out the park so bad that SOB was a walk on) I will try to keep everyone up to date!
