Rules of Counting Roller Coasters

Hey all this talk about what everyone's coaster count is has got me thinking, what are youre criteria for counting a roller coaster as a new tick here are mine:

1. It is a roller coaster if the park markets it as such (i.e. Space Mountain, Fire in the Hole, and when I go on Superman: The Escape count)

2. Racing coasters do not count as two except: if they are a "dueling" coasters or if one car is facing forward and the other is facing backwards.

Hope these help:

If the coaster is made of wood and painted white, it counts as 1.

If the coaster is made of wood but left natural, it counts as 2.

If it's a wood coaster with steel supports it only counts as 1/2.

If its a blue steel coaster it counts as 4.

If a coaster has inversions, add that to the number of tracks and count it as such.

Coasters in Indiana count double.

Coasters in Florida don't count at all.

If a coaster moves to a new park you can only count it if they paint it.

Shuttles count as 1 unless they have a loop.

Launched coasters only count if they run more than one train.

Any coaster painted yellow counts as 2 on Tuesdays, but 1 any other day of the week.

If there are more than 100 people in line, the coaster counts as 2.

If you drive by a coaster but don't ride it, it counts as 1/3.

If you have a dream about riding a coaster it counts as 1.

Kiddie coasters count as 1 if no kids are riding with you. If there are kids in the train, add the number of kids + 1.

If the coaster is named after a superhero it counts as 5, but if that coaster has clones those only count as 2.

I have to go recalculate.
I start with the fingers of my left hand, then my right--after which I move to the toes. Then I ask a few friends to kick off their shoes and help me.
For myself, I count every one of them.

For dueling coasters, if they have same layout then I count it like one (ex. Colossus @ SFMM) If both are very different I count them as two (ex. Dueling Dragons @ IOA)

I score triple for rides during full moons, quadruple for high tide, and I add 50 for the vernal equinox.

Bottom line, no one's track record matters to anyone else. Do whatever you feel is appropriate. If someone else cares about how many I have or haven't ridden or thinks differently of be solely because of that, I feel sorry for them.

What about the racer at Kennywood? It is a racing coaster, but is one track. Do we get 1 1/2 for that?

I think that's the best response to that.

I hear America screaming...

I wasnt out to critique anyones counting (it is your personal decision) but I did want to get an idea of where I stand compared to others, geeeeez, SOOOOOry for offending so many of you ;)

Bad question to ask on April fools day, TouchDown. :)

As for me, i never count kiddie coasters, but that's mainly because i don't care enough about my coaster count to look like an ass begging the ride op to let me on.

But who really cares, huh? I only like my track record because it reminds me of the rides i've been on - it's not really a competition to me; more like a personal accomplishment.

Normally I would have closed this, but after reading Moosh's post, I couldnt help but laugh and realize we need some humor with all that is going on in the world.

Bottomline is: Do as you will with your track record. Its your personal accomplishment and you decide how you want to factor your coaster count. Dont worry what other people think.

If the park rules allow adults to ride, why does one need to beg the operator? If you need to beg the operator to ride you're most likely breaking park rules and, thusly, should not be riding in the first place. And lastly, why do you care about "looking like an ass" in front of people you don't know and will probably never see again?

Finally! After all the Scrooge-like deleting of April Fool's posts all day today its nice to see someone getting into the spirit of the day.

Amen, brother! I've been preaching that sentiment for years, too ;)

Times stamped on this site are Eastern time. I run on a Central time zone. Therefore I was within the April 1st time of 11:42:42 PM CT. :)

'bout time the voting ended, too -- that dang thing was starting to ride up on me. Oh, you mean it's SUPPOSED to that?

As for how you count, as others have said, it's up to you. I count racers once, duelers with individually named tracks (Fire/Ice) twice. I count kiddies, but NOT "powered coasters". There are no "rules" other than the ones you set for yourself.

I have seen people get into heated arguments like this and it's just almost too funny. There are no rules except what each person makes for themselves.

We all have our own ways of counting, so who cares? :-)
