"Rollercoaster" on AMC December 11th

Just wanted to let everyone know that the movie "Rollercoaster" is going to be on AMC on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 5:35 PM / EST.

I hope the someone didn't already post this info. I did a search but didn't find any other posts about this particular showing.

Don't forget to set your VCRs.

"The world's fastest rollercoaster will open next year in Japan. Unfortunately, only three people in Japan are tall enough to ride it." - SNL

Thanks for posting that news,I'll be sure to tune in to channel 28 @ 5:35 pm on wednesday to watch it.

I may decide to tape it seeing as how the other copy I made last year got chewed up by my VCR a few months ago,man I can just see those PKD shots right now.

I have the movie on DVD, so now I can compare the differences in picture quality unless AMC fixed up the movie just like the DVD did.

Just imagine the Cedar Point announcement, "420 feet high at more than 100 mph straight up and straight down with a twist!". "Nah uh, really?" : ) I'm much more patient when I can see exactly what they are building.

It's kind of cheesy. I think it's fun to watch, but honestly... it's not the best ever made.

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I think it was a very good movie. At least for the time it was made. Is it the best movie ever made? No, but it doesn't mean it's not good. I don't think it's that cheesy though, because the "special effects" are good, the acting is not so bad, and the only "bad" part of the movie is that horrible band that is playing at Magic Mountain.

I finally got to watch it about a month ago, but I didnt get to watch the whole thing. I'm having all 4 wisdom teeth pulled on Wednesday so I'll be home in bed. It looks like I'll have something to watch now :)

Remember, the movie itself was designed to highlight the whole new theatre experience known as *Sensurround*. To get the full experience, you'll need three large-screen TV's placed strategically around the room. ;). Just make sure that *Little Man* isn't hiding behind one of them!

Back to the *coasters I'd like to ride" thread, how about the one at Ocean View Park (name?) in VA....

Ocean View Sky Rocket... name in the movie Southern Belle.

(Original name curtousy of my memory... movie name curtousy of RCDB)

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

Hey, Sparks rocks the house in Rollercoaster!! C'mon, a guy that looks like Hitler smashing a piano bench? This was during the 70's people...they could have picked someone crappy like Frampton or Heart...this was a bold move! ;-)

Rollergator: IIRC, Sensurround was an audio feature, not a visual one (you might be thinking of Cinerama, which, come to think of it, would make the onride footage in "RC" unbelievably cool!). Sensurround was a technique to increase certain bass frequencies to get seats to rumble. I saw "RC" in a big theater with good sound at the time, and the seats were definitely moving whenever they showed a coaster. Really amped up the tension, especially after that horrible wreck at the beginning.

At the Coaster Con this year, we all got to view Rollercoaster in true "Sensurround"!!! Thanks to Ric Turner and his very light ;) speakers. And Timothy Bottoms was kind enough to autograph my Rollercoaster soundtrack.

Sorry, Bass.....I should have thought of the whole concept of speakers SEPARATE from the TV sets....must be showing my age....perhaps just my senility...:). So yes, I guess you *could* use one TV and several speakers....

I've never heard of the movie. What's it about?

I got "Rollercoaster" on DVD last Xmas and still drag it out from time to time. It's a surprisingly decent movie with some excellent POV footage of Kings Dominion's Rebel Yell and glimpses of many of that park's long-defunct rides like the Apple Turnover, Sky Ride, Vertigo (looks like a Mack Caterpillar without the canvas), Galaxi, and Flying Bobs. Add in an appearance by the defunct KD Singing Mushrooms and you've got a true classic. The running cigarette gag with george Segal is also entertaining. If you're actually one of the few who hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it.

ray p. (who would have to skip past the song "Big Boy" on the "Rollercoaster" soundtrack. Ugh. That song went on for what seemed to be 20 minutes!)

Anything from Cedar Point?

I am not the real Chris Sawyer...Or am I?...No.

You people are all on crack! "Rollercoaster" is a hideous movie. The only good reason to watch it is for the historical footage of KD and MM. Otherwise, it's cheesy, the acting is amazingly bad, it's predictable and plodding.... ugh. :)

"Hey mister... I'll bet you a million bucks we win!"

God, this movie is pretty ridiculous. Redeeming parts, but pretty awful... at least I'm not alone on that.

Rollercoaster is EASILY one of my favorite movies. Tim Bottoms is a favorite of mine("I'm gonna punch you right in the face..."), LOL, as well as some of the other actors. I believe Steve Guttenburg as well as a couple of more known names had uncredited appearances in there as well. Production is classic, it holds well & comes from an era that had many great movies, & I don't mean Jaws, LOL, some of us aren't into these movies that the "man" tells us to like, as in choke me anyday other than make me watch Jurassic Park or something. Different strokes for different folks, it has nothing to do with the crack.

"Jaws" is, in fact, an incredible movie. The scene where Quint tells the story about WWII give me chills every time. See it in widescreen, it's amazing.

I think that the best movies will never really seemed "dated" like "Rollercoaster" does. If you ignore some of the clothes and hair, you'd never know "Jaws" was made in 1975.

Chris, nothing from Cedar Point.

RJ, it is about a terrorist who tries to explode several rollercoasters. It takes place at the now defunct Ocean View Park, King's Dominion (pre paramount) and Magic Mountain (pre six flags).

Does he succeed? This movie sounds like an enthusiast's nightmare!

My name isn't even Chris!
