Reprofile Legend's Helix!?!?!

This may sound a bit lame as the Legend is one of my favorite woodies out there but a reprofile of the helix would boost this coaster ahead of Raven and Viper as my personal fav wood. (I still haven't ridden Coaster but will be there this summer!)

So for only a small sum of money the second half of the helix could be lowered. The entire helix would have a descent rather than the high...low...high...low. It just seems to drag through the second higher elevation portion of the helix. The four corners would have a little more speed too. Remember the G trains in those curves...nuts!

Again, I think this ride is AWESOME AS IS. Just thinking about what could possibly make it better.

If I was going to reprofile that helix, I'd bank the turns to about 45 degrees. I'm not a big fan of the laterals.

Neither am I, but what do I care. I already like Legend better than Raven.

Put me down as another person who is not a big fan of the Legend's helix. If it were more banked like Den mentioned that would help. I think making it more like Knoebles Twister's helix would be the best thing.

Thats ok. 4 less people in line in front of me! I love the laterals on it. Obviously many others do to. I dont think that Holiday World will mess with perfection on either of their woodies much. Outside of making it so they can have 2 train operation on Legend and tweaking / repairing track of course. But I could be wrong you know.

One of the greatest moments on Legend occurs in the helix. Near the end as you exit the helix there's an unbanked section that catches riders off-guard and throws 'em to the left. And during SRM ERT trains *fly* thru the entire thing.

I'll vote for leaving it as it is, too ;)

Beast, as of last season they DO have 2 train operations on Legend.

But back to the main topic of this thread...Why change what is (near) perfection? Legend is ranked in the top 5 wooden roller coasters in the world!

I rode both Legend and Raven multiple times last SRM (and plan to again this SRM) and found nothing I'd want to change in either one of those wooden masterpieces!!!

Maybe I should have put ;) after that part since I knew that was done.

The only thing missing at that park is a good airtime machine like Shivering Timbers.

Though Raven does provide good airtime. And good laterals. It is no wonder why it is #1.

Put me down with the *banking* contingent....not that it'll make one bit of difference in my attendance, I'll be at SRM regardless (and having a GREAT time there). But if I were to build it from scratch, I'd go with a touch more banking throughout the helix, leaving just a smidgen of unbanked track near the end....for *Mooshing*...;)

Raven not an airtime machine? OK, Guess i'll just forgo THE drop then.

I didn't mean that the Legend is bad in any way. But any future time at HW will probably be split 20% Legend and 80% Raven by me. :)

If they got rid of the Legend's laterals, I'd never return. The mix of elements to create Legend's out of control feeling is what makes it my favorite coaster on the planet. Making it less severe and more airtime laden would kill that thing for me. If you want airtime, ride a steel hyper or Timbers. Leave my Legend alone. =)

I like the helix in it's present form...and I liked it even better with the Hurts-lauers. There's something that's very cool about being hella-tired near the end of SRM, so tired you can't even keep yourself in your seat on the helix.

Intamin Fan says we have to behave. Let's bring this discussion back to coasters. Do you people think I have all day to dick around?

People are pansies I want slamming laterals and painful ejector air. Maggie, Twister, Cornball, Legend, Raven, bring it on. If something jostles you around in the least people are ready to crucify it.

Don't even mention changing Legend. Not one. damn. thing. about changing it. Very bad things happen to those who wisper these atrocities.

I'm all about keeping the PTCs...especially after hearing it got to 62 seconds at the event last September. I think subtracting 5 seconds or so from its SRM rides last year will probably convert the masses, so to speak.

By reprofile, I meant the the vertical profile. The train slows midway through the helix before diving back into the tunnel. By lowering the second half, the laterals could remain constant throughout the entire helix.

And that flat exit is my third favorite lateral moment....first is a tie between first drop on Lakeside Cyclone and Thunderbolt. Absolutely rib-breaking bliss! Any of you ever broken a rib on wood?

Almost, the entrance to Twister's Helix. You pop out of your seat and are immediatley slammed to the right. Pure bliss, my single favorite moment on any coaster, especially at night.
