Pop-up Ads

Jeff, I've been getting one.

"Enter MasterCard Summer Escape Sweepstakes" is what it says. Here's the URL:

It comes up when the MasterCard "Enter for a chance to win a daily prize" ad is up.

Ah, I'm glad I am not the only one who prefers banners to popups. Popups serve as a discouragement for me to visit a site, while I have become used to the banners being there and just sort of ingnore them.

However, the part that bothers me in this particular instance is the pop-up add AND the banner ad, so far, have always been the exact same ad in my case. Don't know if I'm just lucky but thats the way it happens. Its like enough already, I just read ther banner ad, I dont need the popup too.

What's odd is that I usually never get pop-ups here. When I do, they're few and far between. Yesterday, though, every time I clicked a link, I got that MasterCard pop-up. I saw that thing about 20 times yesterday. Today, though, nothing.

Oh, well. That's what that lil' "x" box is for, I guess.

Here's how it works, folks. My ad reps add campaigns in real time and allow me to ban the ads after the fact. Generally speaking, I'll kill any pop-ups as soon as I see them.

If you do encounter them and I haven't nuked 'em, the secret is to just leave the pop-up open, as new ones will load in that window. It's significantly less inconvenient that way.

Remember, I don't want them, but they are bound to appear from time to time until I can deal with them.

HALF.COM is now showing up as a full size pop-up window. Every page I go to it pops up, then moves to the back, then back to the front again. AHHHHH!!!!!

dang it.. I saw a popad for some software that prevents popup ads from coming on your screen and i can't remember the url for it.. when i find it i will post the url.

I turned those ads off. Luckily they were only live for a few minutes.

A word of advice: If you do catch these ads before I do, simply leave them open in the background. DoubleClick's pop-ups reload in the same window (at least they have so far), so if you leave it there and ignore it until you're done visiting the site, you should be OK.
