Pop-up Ads

Just wanted to note the pop-ups that I get when I come to coasterbuzz. I had read in a post a couple of months ago that Jeff doesn't intend for this type of ad to be used here, and we should let him know if we see any.

If I'm wrong, or if this has already been covered, just ignore me. I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks. Anyway, just wanted to let you know.

Thanks,
Jacob

If you see one let me know who the advertiser is. I've been killing them, but occasionally I miss one.

Jeff, just clicking from General Buzz --> Coasterbuzz Forums --> Suggestions has brought up EIGHT pop up ads for two seperate links. One version offers a free credit report. Another offers computer information. Here are the links that they lead to:

http://servedby.advertising.com/click/site=0000046760/mnum=0000024550/bnum=7320136

http://servedby.advertising.com/click/site=0000046760/mnum=0000026560/bnum=7647948

I remember you saying that some of these ads bring in a lot of money, but this is ridiculous.

The ads have become to obnoxious to bother with, so as a matter of policy, I will discontinue pop-up campaigns. However, it's sometimes hard to find them the way DoubleClick's system is setup, so I may not find them immediately.

One other note, if you open new windows, depending on the browser, you're creating new "sessions," where the ad server thinks that you are due for a pop-up. There is otherwise a limit to the number of pop-ups you'd otherwise see.

That's what I get, I get two of them at the same time. Just about every other thing I click on.

The URL's don't do me any good, guys. I need to know who the advertiser is.

I still don't get why I have yet to see any of these.

I just got one where they are looking for computer/internet people to make $125-$175 an hour for training at home. I think it is HomeEmployed.com, an affiliate of CashMailbox.com.

Jeff, I'm getting a pop-up today that looks to be from homeemployed.com At least that's where the link took me when I clicked it.

Personally I would rather deal with silly pop-up ads if they help keep this site up and running. I would rather have to nuke them myself than to see this site die. Jeff you could, as some sites are starting to do, have a non-subsription base and a subscription base. On the non-subscription base you could have pop-up ads and other things to get revenue in to maintain the site. On the subscription base you could have people pay a set fee to have access to a pop-up add free site. Just a thought. May be too much work but it was a thought. Some of these other sites that are doing this also offer exclusives to subscribers. Again this may not be feasible. However I would be more than willing to put up with the pop-up ads if it is needed to maintain this site.

I don't want to go to a subscription model, and I really don't want to display pop-ups. I've been bugging Burst and DoubleClick to sell skyscraper ads, as they're more effective but not particularly intrusive, but they haven't done it.

Looks like you kind of set the site up with hopes of that, Jeff. The right side below poll and such would be just perfect for that.

I just got 2 while I was reading all of the post. They are from "Website Finder" and "All2Save.com". Pesky little boogers aren't they.
