I really do think that this ride has tons of potential. Indiana Jones is truly amazing, and if PKI was able to improve upon that, this ride will be a real highlight at the park. Hopefully it will use the EMV vehicles (made by Intamin??) Tr:Tr could very well be one of the most interesting new rides next year.

Did you get any pictures from the dinner/lunch?

CoasterFanMatt: Funny how you don't know anything about the ride, yet you're already convinced it's a failure. That's pretty short-sighted if you ask me. Little by little we'll learn more, and several months from now we'll hear you change your tune.

Yes, I got photos from lunch. They had the food setup in two rooms, one for Cambodia and the other for Iceland. The Iceland room was cool (pun intended) because they had an ice sculpture of the logo and a table made of ice. Seafood (I'm talking shrimp, crab, salmon) was served there, while the Cambodia room (where the tables were) had quasi-Cambodian food and American chicken wings. The beef teriyaki was melt-in-your-mouth. Good stuff.

Jeff...now I know why you get so excited about the free food at these media events! :) Sounds awesome!

So PKI is going to be really secretive about this one. Looks like the details over this ride will be discussed to death in the forums over the next few months. I just hope Lara Croft makes a few appearances during the ride! ;)

Signature Under Construction: More Thrills Coming in 2002!
I could be wrong on this, but I was told that they do not plan on releasing ride stats and such before it opens.

That will be some feat if they can pull it off.

Wow, "they" sure are "giant props." Not really. The movie is terrible. When she jumps on the ground she is perfect (face, make-up, & hair).

Terrible movie = Terrible ride

The Tomb Raider faid will be "dead" by the time the ride is finished and ready to open.

Jeff, what's your problem? Exactly WHERE did CoasterFanMatt say in his post that it would be a failure?? All I read was specualtion that it would be a great ride!! Yet, you unjustifiably jumped his case for nothing!

Tell you what - I'll give you something to jump down MY throat about.....

I could care less how well themed, or innovative, this new Tomb Raider ride will be - I am totally not interested. They are totally messing up Rivertown by doing something like this. PKI doesn't exist to me anymore - it is not the same park it used to be.
terrible movie but its THE BEST GAME EVER on PSX!
Whoa there, everybody! Even if the ride is horrid fecal matter it doesn't mean the park is one notch lesser for the effort (Or the city that hosts it.)

How many parks have changed(evolved) as the years go by? Freaking all of them!
How many parks have what some people consider a "bad" ride? Freaking all of them!

And how much can one ride change a park? I mean change, not just improve, not just attract more people...change?

It's just theming! I think the theming looks interesting! I'm willing to wait and see the final product before I pronounce the park dead!
Here's another exclamation mark"!"

They made alot of people mad by not telling us anything. Instead of being excited, I'm let down. I can't believe they did this, held a major press conferance and we still don't know what the ride is.
This top secret attitude by theme parks is a joke. They know what they're going to build years into the future. They work with ride manufacturers and design the rides years before the building on them starts. So what's the big deal if they release the ride stats now? It's not like some other park is gonna come along and order the same thing. I've never heard of this being a problem, someone stealing a design before the first ride is released.

We're bored, we're fans, we want the news. We sit in our cubes here at work looking for excitement. And what do they give us? Nothing.

Because of this, I'm waiting for the CP announcement, because I know they'll give us all the info we want. And then I'll hype it up and make my plans for next year.

Forget PKI if they're going to tease us like this. Let's start talking about the CP announcement.

OK, we get it, some of you don't like the ride (that you don't know enough about to make an informed opinion about) and some of you don't like the movie. Good for you. We don't need to hear it every single thread.

I for one enjoyed the movie for what it is: A fun summer action flick with a hot lead character.

StealthmF5m3: The Tomb Raider "faid" was supposed to have died about four years ago. Go figure.

In reading various forums, I find it interesting how everyone is dissing this ride, again, without any real information. I give PKI some credit. Coaster one-upmanship can't go on forever, and it doesn't make sense from a strategic standpoint to continue focusing strictly on the teen and twentysomething markets. Remember, families with diverse interests are best served by diverse attractions, which of course means they spend more money.

I also find it entertaining that the Internet has been a breeding ground for instant gratification. I for one look forward to being surprised for a change.

Personally, I'm happy to see PKI getting this ride. I hope this is just the beginning of a trend to revitalize interest in dark rides.
Lets think about this:

Tomb Raider would have been a great name for any ride, even if the movie and games didn't exist. It just SOUNDS COOL and the ride won't necesarily hinge on the quality of the movie. As long as the ride is high quality and exciting, it really doesn't matter how good the movie is. I mean, really, its not like the Wayne's World movies were high quality peices of art in the highest order, but The Hurler's are still kick butt rides. Where's the connection?
I do not find the name Tomb Raider attractive. In fact the name Tomb implies death. The scenery they have displayed is not uplifting, it is depressing. All this ride does is remind me of the deaths that have occured at that park (5 i believe)
Maybe they are keeping it a secret so when you ride the ride there are a few suprises that no one knows about which actually makes the ride more fun... I dont know if anyone understands what I am talking about. Anyways, everyone who thinks the ride will suck needs to just shut up and wait untill the ride opens and then judge it. You are all just mad because you were so convinced they were going to get a coaster and they didn't so now you are dissappointed. And besides you never know, the ride could be half thrill ride/ half coaster but I am just so sick of everyone getting mad because they wanted a giga, dive machine, etc. Wait until it opens and then you can post your opinions!
Simulators are going to start popping up everywhere. It will change parks one day. Everyone thinks there won't but I am beging to see different. They are getting more and more of a drawl and soon most parks will be catching on unfortunatly. Give me a good hyper/giga/hypersonic/cci/ any coaster over some simulator. I get about nothing from spinning around a couple of times and looking at all of these screens flash things up on them. I am not locking my opinion though. I will not say this ride will suck before it was made but I will say would rather have a rollercoaster.

Why do so many people think it's a simulator? They already have a simulator. This could be a dark ride like Indiana Jones (Disneyland). I'm looking forward to it and I'm glad that a theme park besides Universal or Disney is bringing back the fun of dark rides.
Jeff's avatar
This thing is not going to be a simulator... it's going to be a "heavily-themed, totally immersive dark ride experience." A simulator is that stupid thing they have parked next to the underpass to Flight of Fear.

Oh ye of little faith...
