Rob Ascough said:Those SOB trains are definitely NOT new.

Then, I guess ONE lap on the "new and improved Son of Beast" may be all that's required...*rollseyes, shrugs, and winces*

;)

Considering all those turns... probably.

I heard from a reliable source that Firehawk is getting converted to the same system that BORG uses, they are removing the motors from the trains and mounting the BORG system in the station.

I don't know how that's gonna improve reliability & decrease downtime because you still have the onboard computer system in each row that monitors the safety systems for the train.

IIRC from the Batwing segment on extreme rides 02 they said that there were about 88 sensors on each train.

Park maintenance is totally rewiring and refurbishing the trains, similar to what was done with Borg.

^So...Premier did that for Borg (i.e., Paramount had Premier do the work FOR them)....but now, under CF management, FireHawk is having the same work done in-house? Should we be concerned? It's not like King's Island is even a medium-sized Carowinds-type park. KI is a *massive* park, with attendance rivalled by VERY few seasonal parks. I doubt I'd consider running the risk, esp. after Premier has *proven* they can make the necessary tweaks to get the Vekoma flyers running properly.
I believe they're being assisted by a Cedar Point steel coaster maintenance team, but yes Firehawk's train overhaul is being done in-house at the park.
Hopefully they know more about steel coasters than they do about wood coaster maintenance!
Actually Rob, A former HW maintence person was kinda amazed at KI's wood maintencence. He said it cant be easy to keep all them running in good condition considering they have the most miles of wood coaster track in the world.

Chuck

I forgot to mention this, but there are seme steel coaster maintenance people at KI now that were part of Carowinds' maintenance team when Borg was new, so we have people familiar with this ride type.
Let's just hope a rumor on a certain other site that the G-trains are from Pavilion's Hurricane aren't true. If PKI did buy them then hopefully it was for testing purposes. Please, please don't use them. I am (was) a Hurricane supporter but that is pushing it.

I get a feel ing that some of the mantaince gurus from CP (some of the best in the biz) will be helping out a KI, at least here & there.

I think they're probably working from the same information and simply doing the same things Premier did. So it should be OK, although I'd prefer they have Premier do it too.

EDIT: Honestly, CF's in a tough spot with Firehawk. It was utterly unnecessary at GL and too expensive to maintain besides, and at big old KI it won't have the capacity to pull tolerable lines. And will still probably be expensive to maintain.

To make matters worse, IMO, it's not really an option to sell any of the fliers. You wouldn't get a decent return on the investment because their reputation precedes them. Most parks that could afford them would rather have Beemers and it's basically obsolete (although personally I really wish the Vekoma design would be explored more, I like it better than the Beemer). So moving it to KI and trying to make it work is their only real option. *** Edited 3/7/2007 8:20:48 PM UTC by Vincent Greene***

Theirs no way that CF will buy some used trains.

Yeah, Kinzel is always wants that "new coaster smell". He won't buy used stuff. New old stock maybe.

DUDE, they bought the old Gerslauer train from Holiday World for Raging Wolf Bobs.

Please get better information and quit blindly posting nonsense.

Why woulden't they buy used equipment?

Not sure if they are the best choice for S.O.B though.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

If the G-train rumor is true, it'd be a freakin' disaster - moreso than it was before! I know CF is cheap, but come on... Hurting more people to save a couple hundred grand isn't worth it. By the time you pay off the medical bills, lawyers, and maintenance staff to "fix" the records, you'll be even deeper than you'd be getting good trains and a quality retrack.

One way or another, I still expect it to be worlds better than that POS on the other side of the park. I'll never ride that thing again.

I'd have shut the sucker down *unless and until* I could convince GCII to build me some MFs for that monstrosity. It's NOT going to be pretty at the exit ramp with guests getting off the ride complaining about the brutal beating they'd been through.

The re-tracking, much like that done for Cheetah, will last....ummmm, 2-3 months TOPS. Those Gerstlauers will EAT thru the re-track in no time, and leave the ride even MORE painful than it was before the "incident".
