PKI invites enthusiasts for farewell last rides on flyers

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

After about 70 years in the Cincinnati area, the historic flyers at Paramount's Kings Island will be dismantles and moved to another park. PKI invites enthusiasts for last rides at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17.

ARGHHHHHHHHH! GOOD GRIEF! The most disappointing thing since Fascination at Cedar Point went away!

I doubt anyone at the park was behind this, particularly since it would appear they're going to the Carolinas. I think everyone at the park knows what that ride means to the locals, so it has to be a corporate decision.

The point is that if you want to direct your anger and hurt feelings somewhere, PKI is probably not the right direction.

I agree Jeff. That park has become so "Guest/Enthusisast Friendly" that they were probably told to get rid of them! The park has to know that there is going to be annomocity (sp?)!

Ok so how do you tell the high ups running Paramount Parks bad move????
Something that would be so simple to re-locate within the park and takes up a small amount of space.

While I am not the biggest fan of the Flyers, it still doesn't make much sense.

ok I must say that I have visited PKI several times in my life, but Im not quite sure what "the flyers" are.

But hey, Im still made at them for taking out my favorite coaster "King Cobra". I know many people didnt like it, but I was a big fan.

Magic Man the Flyers are the Flighing Egales
I'll take good care of them. Sorry to Kris and Sean and Danny the most.
This is very aggrevating. I've never been much of a fan of Kings Island but the Flyers were one of the few enjoyable aspects of the place (as long as they didn't enforce the no single rider rule). Not to mention it is a historically important ride in Southwest Ohio as it is one of the few remaining rides from the old Coney Island.

You write them and tell them you will not patronize their parks. Then you suck it up and don't patronize their parks. Get your friends to do the same. If it means that much to you, that is the only choice. Somehow I don't think enough people will get upset over this to affect their bottom line.

P.S. I got mad at Wallmart years ago (I honestly cannot even remember all the details now---something about a faulty computer game) and have boycotted them since. I wrote the company back in the day. I'm sure my actions have really affected their stock prices... :-)

The bottom line is, I don't believe King's Island cares what we want. Try as you may to tell them what you want - I doubt it will matter to them. I tried emailing them several times to express my disappointment with various things that were taking place in the park. Needless to say, it was a wasted effort.
Don't ever believe your voice is wasted because actions were not taken that as a result of your opinion. Remember that you are not their only guest.
After all of these posts all I have to say is.... :(

That's really sad. I hoping they'd at least be around till closing weekend.

I'll never get to ride them again. :(

Well, damn. They were the best ride in the park.

Put me on the list as another dissapointed customer.

Odd timing that I haven't renewed my season pass yet. Then again, since PKI is my home park, I probably will eventually. I think that what is in question, though, is how often I will visit next year. Disappointing how they can't just move this popular ride to another vacant location.
They have more than enough room to relocate the ride. I really think it's a bad move to get rid of them. Enthusiasts aren't the only folks who love to fly- lots of locals do, too.

To me, this is about as aweful as Cedar Point removing Magnum.

The question to ask is just how popular is the ride?

Simply because a niche group likes the ride does not always mean that everyone does. When I worked there, albeit 20+ years ago, the "scooter" was not such a popular ride.

During more recent visits I do not recall much of a line, and they are not exactly a high capacity attraction.

I enjoyed the ride and will mildly miss not riding them, will their removal stop me from visiting, certainly not.

So the rumors are true?

I won't lie. One of the main reasons I go to PKI is to take a couple of rides on the Eagles. Yes, I am very sad about this choice but I am sure there are reasons none of us have thought about for the reason of the removal.

I won't be boycotting the park like a few others I know are planning on doing but I do believe the park will be less fun without them. I did hear one comment from a fan of the ride that raised eyebrows of more than a few people. "If they can design the Beast so it wouldn't have to take out a few trees, why can't they design another coaster without taking out the Flyers?" So long Flying Eagles. I am glad I got a final ride last weekend.

-Sean (who is going to try like mad to make it down there on the final day

My son and I are very dissappointed with this decision. Everytime we go down there we usually ride this at least twice. I still remeber early on in the season before my sons second birthday when we got to ride three times in a row because we went straight to the Eagles when the park opened and no one was back there. After those three rides straight he put up a fit when I tried to get him off. Although he probably will never remember riding them I won't forget how much fun we had on them.
