PKI invites enthusiasts for farewell last rides on flyers

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

After about 70 years in the Cincinnati area, the historic flyers at Paramount's Kings Island will be dismantles and moved to another park. PKI invites enthusiasts for last rides at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Oh wow! I've never been on them but I know how much folks around here love the things. Sorry guys! :(
Ditto! Just as I'm getting into the Flyers too. What are they thinking?
Any word on where they're going?
Extremely dissapointed to say the least! With the popularity of the ride, gp and enthusiasts alike, I'm am very surprised at this move. I'd really like to know why it's being removed.
I can honestly say, out of my 30 years attending the park, that this is the saddest I've been about any ride removal at the Island.
The Eagles will be removed in order to make way for the entrance plaza for "Italian Job." The entrance to the new for 2005 attraction will be placed just off the Serpantine path from Rivertown to Coney Mall.

They will have a new home... just not at PKI.

Bummer, I have only been to PKI once (CBCon) and that was one of the highlights...
My first guess as to the new home is PCar...

Yay, flyers closer to me. Sorry Ohio!

Yeah., but who know's what the snapping policy will be, Clint.
Disappointing but not unexpected news. Seems like the EuroBungy or Laser Tag sites in Coney Mall would have made a nice home for the Eagles. I wonder if a Whizzer style campaign would be effective with Paramount?
Doesn't bother me. I've been to PKI 50+ times and never even attempted to ride the flyers.

I did ride the ones at Americana, but sucked at getting them to work. It was cool when a train was passing by though.

We need a petition!!! I can remember 5 years ago as a little ten year old that was the first ride of my AP career, and I have loved it ever since. WE HAVE TO SAVE IT!!!
I say that we start a "Save The Flyers" E-Mail campaign!

I know that Mr. Siebert is a reader of these forums, but a direct approach might be more effective. Hey, it works to save TV shows. I have already sent mine out.

I think an email campain might just bolster the idea that relocation is a good thing (if they like 'em in Cinci, they'll like 'em elsewhere).
I'd sign an email petition...
Flyers are classics. and if theirs is original (70 yrs old) they should stay...
I see many non-enthusiasts being disapointed with this choice as well. Why move the obviously loved ride in the park? It just doesn't make any sense to me. It makes just as much sense to move the Eiffel Tower.

I don't see why they could have just moved them to the old Flight Commander area of the park and get ride of laster tage that is 10 years old. I don't think these Flyers are 70 years old. If you look in the Coney Island book with the picture when they frist came to Coney Island the tubs have a different shape. At this point I don't think a e-mail save the flyers would work seeing they are going to Carowinds. I will be working on the 17 so I can not go ride it one more time. I like to tell the PKI high ups what I think of this dumb idea.*** This post was edited by Vortex 10/8/2004 3:28:07 PM ***
Bummer. I was just getting into these and had only ridden for the first time at BB '04. I was looking forward to future rides. I'd say a petition is in good order.

Getting ride of the Flyers will get people mad, and makes Paramounts Kings Island look bad to alot of people.
Its not like no one knows about the ride my grandma rode them at Coney Island. Looks like the dark days of Kings Island are back.
