PKD changes confirmed at Eastcoaster.

Hey IntaminFan, how 'bout you stop talking s*** on Anaconda and Rebel Yell. They're classics, and i'm sure that they're there to stay.

Wow...testy, aren't we? I sure don't want to see Anaconda or Rebel Yell go anywhere, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Take a ride...

Removing Diamond Falls is a smart move by PKD. It was time. As many times as I go to the park, I always just skip riding DF. I am glad something new will make its place in that spot. The only disappointment is that I am going to be at PKD in May with approx. (35) 9 year olds. (God help me.) I was going to enjoy seeing them get soaked on the bridge! HeHe. I will be sure to post what day this will be so you can avoid the mayhem. :)

Ricochet took my breath away.....literally.

Why didn't I think of this before? I-Fan's idea of expansion into the parking lot sounds like a smart move for the park, their parking lot is huge when compared to SFA's & something like a hyper can fit in really nice there.

As far as removing Anaconda or Rebel yell you can give that idea up right now, these two coasters will probably be around for quite a while seeing as how Anaconda was recently repainted & Rebel yell just needs to be re tracked & it'll be good as new.

If there's any section that needs more rides it would have to be old virginia, the've only got 2 non water rides (blue ridge tollway & Grizzly) & they havn't added anything new in that section for quite a while.

Why is PKD incomplete without a hyper? Please help me to understand this whole PKD/hyper obsession.

Umm, aren't the flyers back in Old Virginia too? They are right across from the entrance to Grizzly. And Moosh, you HAVE to advocate that EVERY park have a hyper...it's rule number 57 isn the enthusiass code of conduct ;)

Yes. I have been going to PKD since 1978, and have thought every year, 'y'know, this park is ok, but it's missing something...' Now I know what it is. Thanks, now I can get a good night's sleep for the first time in 25 years.

TS, tell me how Flying Super Saturator isn't a coaster? It has a lift hill, it has track, and is under gravities pull from the lift hill. Do you have to turn off the water to make it a coaster?

Please don't accuse me of not calling it a coaster, what I said was that "the company considers it one." That was not implying that I felt it wasn't a coaster. However, there are some people on here that feel it isn't a coaster, so that is why I put it that way, since I saw on the recent SFAW rides post that someone felt it wasn't a coaster(or maybe it was on this post, not for sure). So don't go accusing me of something I didn't say, I think Super Saturator, as well as Superman: The Escape are coasters. And as for landlocked, I thought there was plenty of room behind Volcano and FoF?

BTW, I wasn't saying PKD is incomplete w/out a Hyper, I just kind of think that's what they'll get, though I'd like to see some other things there, since there are plenty of coaster types I've never ridden. If they don't get a Hyper, I've got Raging Bull, S: RoS under my belt, and hopefully will have MF and Magnum this year:).

Tekno, in the context of your post, by specifically stating that the park considers it a coaster can imply to some that you, in fact, don't. Just to let you know, that's how I took it as well.

Take a ride...

I'm not reffering to the area where the flyers are, instead I'm thinking more in the middle of old virginia somewhere between whitewater canyon & the shenandoah log flume, that's an area which could possibly use some more flats if you ask me.
Vater's avatar
There's not a whole lot of room in that area to install a flat, unless you want it to look extremely overcrowded.

Take a ride...

I understand that, Vater, but you took it that way, and yet you didn't come at me with "YOU DON'T CONSIDER IT A COASTER!?!", and even if I didn't, I stated that it was what I considered a Gimmick COASTER in my post, Thats the point I was making 2 I-Fan. But thanx for letting me know:)

If I can borrow a line from the CPfanboys "PKD does not have a space problem". There is a whole heap of room back behind Hurler and Grizzly. You normally cannot see this because of all of the trees. But in 2001, I went several times in the spring and it was clear that there was a bunch of room. I also know PKD owns that room because that is where they stored the extra cars/trains for HyperSonic when they were only running one cart.

And BWSFA, I dont disagree that PKD on the average could use more flats. Just pointing out that there is indeed a flat in Old VA.

PKD doesn't need a hyper NEARLY as bad as they need to do SOMETHING with Grizzly and Rebel Yell....I vaguely remember RY giving some really GOOD rides, but not anytime recently...the park has a NICE steel collection as is...for relatively cheap, they could turn those two around...;)

Never go unarmed into a battle of wits...;)

RGW< the thing is, they *do* turn them around, every year even. If you ever get a chance, go to PKD on an opening weekend one year. Those woodies feel like absolute heaven. Okay, so Grizzly still has that annoyingly slow rise into the 2nd hill, but it flies through the rest of the course and there is no squeaking. RY is a "butta" ride with sporadic floating throughout the return run.

Problem is, by about Memorial Day, all the carpenters have apparently forgotten where to find the keys to the cabinet containing the graphite. Once it gets hot, those rides start to suck. You better hope for a little bit of rain...

--who'd rather be on FoF anyway

What's wrong with Grizzly? other than a loss of a few trees the ride performs just as well as it did when it first opened 21 years ago.

As for Rebel yell, all it needs is some re tracking & now that I think about it a new coat of paint as well.

Rebel yell is a classic out & back racer which as we all know has been with the park since it's inception & while it may not be as well known as PKI's racer but it's still a popular ride with the locals & thus it will remain in the park for many years to come,if any coaster @ PKD needs to go then shockwave gets my vote.

I don't find anything wrong with the Grizzly. I think it does run excellently during opening weekend, but once it comes around to summer, it's not as fast, but still plenty of airtime.

I also believe the Rebel Yell needs some good retracking, and I hope they did it. Everytime I rode it this year, I was in pain. My back made a loud crack during one ride. I do find the back of Backwards to be smooth though, and a good ride.

I always find it amusing when people say The Hurler doesn't give Airtime. I wonder, "Why am I out of my seat when people say there is no air time?!" You usually get plenty airtime after the first helix and alittle after the second.

What PKD needs, beside another coaster, is more flat rides. Sorry, but the Swings and Triple Spin doesn't cut it. Thats the most extreme thing in the park. Triple Spin runs to slow I think, and Swings are still enjoyable, but there is better stuff. They should've used this year to add more flats seeing as Drop Zone was added.

I hope 2004 brings in few flats or a new coaster, or both. I think if they do add a new coaster, I'd guess a kinda big one because Ricochet wasn't too expensive, along with Drop Zone. They are saving for something big, I hope!

Needs to go? Hold it there, you'll never hear me say that about ANY coaster, most esp. a wooden one. Even Psucklone, the most abominable of all wooden disasters, *could* become a good ride...and should. We went to DC around the end of July, and Grizzly was "not a re-ride". Very few wooden coasters earn that distinction. I did catch a few rides on RY, and it was OK, but when I was a young teen (granted a LONG time ago), that thing FLEW...

Granted, I was mainly there for Hypersonic, and it did NOT disappoint...I guess I still miss King Kobra not being there...*sniff*. The park holds some good memories for me, and I really like the place. IMO it has the second best collection of wood for any chain park I've been to...and Hurler DID do what it was supposed to do. Maybe I'll get there a little earlier this year...say, around mid-June, and get some better rides on RY, and the *woodsy* one as well...;)

i glad you cleared yourself up there 'Gator, i was bout to rip you a new hole for trashin my Grizz :)

i totally agree with the Hostyl One about the graphite thing.....on a hot, humid, VA afternoon, Rebel Yell especially, those wheels are makin some music, and it ain't too entertaining either. and yes....Grizzly does make that slow climb....never understood why Dinn (or whoever it was who built it) couldnt have notched that first turn down bout 10 feet maybe....but nothing on the East Coast, woodwise, feels as good to me as that pop of airtime in the tunnel:)

as far as Shockwave.....i thought i read somewhere that like its now defunct cousin KK, that it was on the market..is this true? if so, i wouldnt be suprised if SW heads out in the next couple years, although its still one my favourite coasters there;)

and I-Fan....you better watch that comment on Anaconda bro ;)
