Pittsburgh area man organizes rally for Geauga Lake's Big Dipper

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

David Mitchell of Cranberry, PA has organized what he is calling a "town hall meeting" to celebrate the Big Dipper at noon Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars across the road from the former Geauga Lake Park in Aurora. It's for people to share memories of the park and the ride. Two experts on coasters will speak.

I've done nothing but inject toxicity since I returned? Have you actually bothered to look at any of the other conversations that I've been a part of? I doubt the site has been as "awesome" as you claim since I started taking a break a few months back... I doubt my presence is able to make or break the site. I think you're giving me way too much credit.

But whatever. I really don't care to keep arguing. Like I said, I enjoy the site and that surely explains why I've been here as long as I have. It's a great place to talk to people with a common interest, and a good example of a community creating something special. You can accuse my posts of whatever you want- sarcasm, personal attacks, etc.- but none of this is some kind of quest to take down the webmaster. It's simply a matter of getting what you give, getting treated as you treat others, and all that fun stuff.

It certainly is a great site, I agree with you, Rob.

I for one would enjoy it better if there was less shaming, mean-spirited mockery, and rush to judgmentalism around here. If you have to stop and wonder if I'm talking about you, then I am.*

By and large, the people around here have hearts of gold, as far as I'm concerned. There are some really neat personalities and minds that contribute to Coasterbuzz every day, most of them far wiser and wittier than I. And that, despite the tendency for conversations to sink into dicketry, keeps me coming back, spending my time here instead of writing the great American screenplay. ;)

This is as much of a call-out as I will ever make on this site.

*Don't want to hear that old "It's the Internet, suck it up!" argument again. I've been on plenty of other forums about plenty of topics, and seen far less rancor on most of them.

Dicketry? Is that like douchebaggery? ;)

It's just left of asshattery.

Better asshattery than pimphattery. ;)

Oh for God's sake, get over it man. I'm no fan of the guy either, but get over it. It's still a business and has nothing to do with greed. Cedar Fair is not a charity. If greed were his motivation he would've found a way to make it work and make money for decades off of your precious ride.

The CEO at blame,

It's never somebody's fault,

Time to grow up.

"Get over it" and "its still a business", two of the most overused phases in forum writing history.

Anyway, I will ask you since it was posed to me, how can you be so sure that greed had nothing to do with GL's closing? A real honest response here would be appreciated. Fact: Kinzel told employees at a meeting right after CF bought the park that if SF didn’t buy Sea World TTD never would have been built, there are many other similar stories, I figured I would throw one fact in since it is important to back up what we say with facts. This is one piece of proof that he saw SFWoA as competition, although I do not believe it was.

So again, how did greed NOT play any role in the closing of GL? I am waiting to be enlightened.

Perhaps I'm missing the point (heh, no pun intended), but if you're greedy you want more, not less.

Exactly.
