I'm quite sure WOF's made extenuating efforts to uh, make it as tasteful as possible...but it's no Iwo Jima. It's a coaster. People name these things after little annoying bugs and bad weather.

Maybe the park should just close on that day since having fun it out of the question and maybe the NFL should cancel it's opening weekend since we're supposed to be sad that day.
PS I plan on being there in the 10th and eating a ton of $1 hotdogs.
I know car and mattress discounts on Memorial Day sure drive the meaning of the holiday home for me. Hotdog sales marketed based on 9/11 just does not seem right to me.

It's Patriot day not terrorist day. It will actually make people think about being Patriotic.
But if your Dad worked in the Twin Towers, your uncle came back without a leg or your brother was wading in the sand right now, you might think of it just a little differently. In terms of an ultimate sacrifice as opposed to whee! Goody! Slaughterhouse floor sweepings!
I don't think the Patriot's a bad name for a coaster. The paint job? Hey, it's paint! Specifically attaching it to Patriot Day--and by extension, an tragic event that happened four years ago--is really toeing the line. Will it sink the park? I don't think so! A good idea? I'm not so sure.

What do you guys plan on doing for Sept 11th? Just curious. *** Edited 8/22/2005 6:43:59 PM UTC by jive2***
Let's use Pearl Harbor as an example. If a ride called the Patriot was announced as part of festivities on December 7, 2005, would anyone think anything of it? Well, what if that ride was announced on December 7, 1945? I think people would have a different view, whether or not they were actually at Pearl Harbor.

I don't see anyone getting too riled up here. What are you seeing that I'm not? Seems to me we're having a discussion on whether its of bad taste to announce a new coaster on the anniversary of 9/11. Some agree, others don't, but there's no flamming or heated exchanged here.
I, for one, think its good to discuss such topics.
I'd be all for the day off of work.

Of course, it's still a hot and controversial topic with mothers of war dead protesting the President's policies, Bush supporters storming back and so on and so forth.
Regardless of where you stand on the scale of opinion, it opens this Pandora's box of emotions I'd prefer to leave at the gate when I enter an amusement park. Isn't that why we go? Getting away from it all?

PS- My cousin was in the wtc subway station at the time the plane hit the tower and made it out seconds before the whole station collapsed, so i REALLY don't want to hear about how i don't appreciate those who weren't so lucky on that tragic day.
