I guess I do have some sort of income via birthday money and holiday money. That all goes into the bank though, so I can generate interest off of it.
I've had a bank account for years, so I believe (or at least I am led to believe) that I have a really high Annual Interest Rate.

Sheesh, here I am trying to tell someone that isn't half my age banking/investment advice...now THAT is irony at it's finest!

Haha, Jeff, you can get two or three of those crushed pennies with that cash.

Kyle, I mean this in the kindest way, but if you're going to hold that money as if it's sacred, you've got it in the wrong place. Most savings accounts are around 1/4th of 1% (0.25%), accrued daily and compounded monthly. Your rate is NOT based on how long you've had an account. ING Direct is the best I've seen offering savings accounts currently at 2.25%, and CDs up to 4.1%. The only drawback to ING is that it's an online-only bank, so you still have to have a "regular" bank with a checking account in order to deposit/withdraw money via internet or telephone service. Anywho, back to my main point: If you're going to hold the money as sacred, you might as well at the very least put it in an ING Savings, but more likely a 5-year CD for 4.1% interest (accrued daily, compounded annually). Even if you absolutely NEED the money in an emergency, you only lose half the accrued interest, so you've still netted 2.05%
Oh, and I should mention that all this (CDs and Savings) offered by ING is FDIC insured.
P.S. I do -NOT- work for ING, but if you're not already a customer and want a free $25 bonus for opening an account, shoot me a PM ;)

For the record, my philosophy is put it away to grow, but don't be afraid to use it if an opportunity arises. :)

I use Norton Internet Security to block your pop-ups and ads,
Wasted money. Works great for some and those some never have problems. Added that to my machine and was attacked by a very smart hacker. Norton is infected or "Tampered" (by there terms) and it is impossible to remove or fix.
Not to beat a dead horse, but aside from the stealing look at ad blocking like this. If everyone were to block commercials on TV or Radio just because of the clutte,r those forms of media would disappear because of revenue lost form advertisers leaving. Same thing here. Sometimes I like the pop ups. I can always use a few more "natural inches" here and there. ;)

I do understand how to budget things, my point is what if I don't have an income, its hard to budget nothing.
So...you're trying to convince me and everyone on here that you never have a few bucks in your pocket? You never stop at the vending machine to buy a coke or a candy bar?
Doubt it!

Kill TIVO!

A certain company I am quite familiar with is now working very closely with TiVo and DirectTV to measure viewership, as well as whether or not commericials are viewed.
Recent studies actually suggest that while people FFWD through the commericals (like I do) there is still a level of ad recall. Based mostly upon the familarity of logos, gimicks, or even spokes people.
I may not "hear him now", but I still recognize the Verizon ad, even at 10X speed.

The bottom line for all media is that someone has to pay for it. You will see advertisements or the media will go away.
Television networks are definitely keeping a close eye on things like TIVO, and although those things may change the way things are advertised, they're never going to be able to eliminate advertisements on television for their users.
