Yeah, put AOL software on your computer... that's really good advice from the company that tells you to format your hard drive when you can't logon.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

lol, yeah I mean McAfee is a good idea, but AOL is just dumb. I mean I would rather like use the Google Toolbar or the Yahoo Toolbar instead of AOL anyway. But once again, just my personal preference.

I guess I do have some sort of income via birthday money and holiday money. That all goes into the bank though, so I can generate interest off of it.

I've had a bank account for years, so I believe (or at least I am led to believe) that I have a really high Annual Interest Rate.

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

So if you have a bank account, why can't you pull 20 bux out of it and spend it on Coasterbuzz? It ain't like 20 dollars is totally going to break anybody's bank I promise you that. Think of it as an investment.

Sheesh, here I am trying to tell someone that isn't half my age banking/investment advice...now THAT is irony at it's finest!

Even with an account balance that frequently reaches a couple thousand dollars before making monthly mortgage and car payments, I've made a whopping $1.75 this year in interest. Whoopeeeeee!!!

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

lmao Jeff. That kind of cash won't even get you a soda at an amusement park. :)

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

The mind is the best pop-up blocker. It's an internal "ignore" feature I have :)

Haha, Jeff, you can get two or three of those crushed pennies with that cash.

AOL. Ugh. I'm "forced" to use it because it's either free AOL, or pay for something else. Before you bombard me with emails asking how I get AOL free, someone else pays and lets me use a screen name. Anywho, I recently was having problems with 7.0, so I [mistakenly] figured upgrading to 9.0 might help. Nope. It installed so much GARBAGE on my computer - toolbars, icons, shortcuts, annoyances, "helper" programs that booted with my PC. In short, it brought my computer to its knees. I had to uninstall AND perform a system restore to fully recover.

Kyle, I mean this in the kindest way, but if you're going to hold that money as if it's sacred, you've got it in the wrong place. Most savings accounts are around 1/4th of 1% (0.25%), accrued daily and compounded monthly. Your rate is NOT based on how long you've had an account. ING Direct is the best I've seen offering savings accounts currently at 2.25%, and CDs up to 4.1%. The only drawback to ING is that it's an online-only bank, so you still have to have a "regular" bank with a checking account in order to deposit/withdraw money via internet or telephone service. Anywho, back to my main point: If you're going to hold the money as sacred, you might as well at the very least put it in an ING Savings, but more likely a 5-year CD for 4.1% interest (accrued daily, compounded annually). Even if you absolutely NEED the money in an emergency, you only lose half the accrued interest, so you've still netted 2.05%

Oh, and I should mention that all this (CDs and Savings) offered by ING is FDIC insured.

P.S. I do -NOT- work for ING, but if you're not already a customer and want a free $25 bonus for opening an account, shoot me a PM ;)

My personal logic dictates that money is for spending...

...then again I am the 'live fast, die young' posterboy. :)

What future?

don't be like me

Gonch, I wasn't saying that he SHOULD squirrel everything away, I was just saying that IF he were going to squirrel it away, logic would say get the best return so you have more to spend later. And hey, if he (or anyone) wants to get an extra $25 with me getting $10 along the way, I'm not going to argue with that! :)

For the record, my philosophy is put it away to grow, but don't be afraid to use it if an opportunity arises. :)

I use Norton Internet Security to block your pop-ups and ads,

Wasted money. Works great for some and those some never have problems. Added that to my machine and was attacked by a very smart hacker. Norton is infected or "Tampered" (by there terms) and it is impossible to remove or fix.

Not to beat a dead horse, but aside from the stealing look at ad blocking like this. If everyone were to block commercials on TV or Radio just because of the clutte,r those forms of media would disappear because of revenue lost form advertisers leaving. Same thing here. Sometimes I like the pop ups. I can always use a few more "natural inches" here and there. ;)

I do understand how to budget things, my point is what if I don't have an income, its hard to budget nothing.

So...you're trying to convince me and everyone on here that you never have a few bucks in your pocket? You never stop at the vending machine to buy a coke or a candy bar?

Doubt it!

Kill TIVO!

Along with the radio/t.v. commercial comments, I have to say that I am the worlds biggest fan of the MUTE button on the remote between programs. I can't stand to sit there and listen to commercials so I "zap" em with that remote quicker than a jack rabbit on a date! :) I really don't see it as I'm screwing the t.v. station when I do it either. They get paid all the same so what I do with my t.v. or how I choose to watch/what I choose to watch is my own business. Perhaps more and more people are taking that kind of attitude with the internet?? What do you all think? Maybe they're will come a time when your surfing the internet and commercials will play across your screen like on t.v. (when broadband is universal that is) after a certain period of online time. Maybe I just stumbled across the next big marketing scheme who knows. ;)

Just remember that if you TiVo over TV spots, no one ever knows. The TV outlet still gets paid. If an is not loaded to your browser, I don't get paid.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

I was pretty much being facetious with my "Kill TIVO" comment, but if it becomes popular enough advertisers will figure out that their ads aren't having the same reach they used to and try to cut payments accordingly.
The use of DVRs (like TiVo) will change the way Ad revenue is generated in the television world.

A certain company I am quite familiar with is now working very closely with TiVo and DirectTV to measure viewership, as well as whether or not commericials are viewed.

Recent studies actually suggest that while people FFWD through the commericals (like I do) there is still a level of ad recall. Based mostly upon the familarity of logos, gimicks, or even spokes people.

I may not "hear him now", but I still recognize the Verizon ad, even at 10X speed.

Actually TIVO is going to incorporate 'billboard' ads for people who FF past commercials by the end of 2005.

LA Times Article

The bottom line for all media is that someone has to pay for it. You will see advertisements or the media will go away.

Additionally, there has been huge increases in product placement, sponsorship, and other forms of in-show advertising (for instance, when one of the rewards on Survivor was a Home Depot tool kit). Reality shows are really perfect for this, which is one of the reasons networks like those shows so much (plus they're rather cheap to produce).

Television networks are definitely keeping a close eye on things like TIVO, and although those things may change the way things are advertised, they're never going to be able to eliminate advertisements on television for their users.

-Nate

Heck, advertising happens even IN media you pay for. Go to the theater, pay $8.50 to see a movie, sit down, and before the previews, ads for Coke. (And before those, stationary ads for the local restaurants and the like)
