Over/under: When will Steel Vengeance enter the CB 100?

Keep in mind what the stars are supposed to represent. It's intended to keep you from over-thinking it, so 5 is "among the best," 4 is "above average" and 3 is "average." (2 is "below average" and 1 is "among the worst.") It seems pretty easy to bucket most any ride into one of those categories without a lot of deliberation.

I rate my coasters on 100 point scale and then bucket anything above 1.5 std devs from median as a 5 star....just kidding.

In seriousness, I think about 20 of my 400 credits are 5’s.

5/14 at #1. That was fast.

That's crazy.

Having ridden four of the top 10 and 21 of the top 50, I can say that at least in my experience it really is that good.

It’s currently the only one in the buzz top ten I haven’t ridden but hopefully that changes by Memorial Day weekend.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

And again, somebody rated it less than 5 Stars... Based on the absolute rave reviews I’m surprised it wasn’t among the best for someone somewhere.

But then again, what do I know?

ShaneDenmark, where do you go to see that someone rated it less than 5 stars? I clicked on Steel Vengeance but couldn't find any stats as to how many people rode it or what ratings were given. In any case I'm surprised that enough people have ridden it to get it on the list at all, much less at #1, with only 1 train running. Was planning to go to Cedar Point in June but won't book that trip until all 3 trains are running and Fast Lane Plus can be used to ride it. As to 5 star rides, I probably have an overabundance of 5 star ratings in my track record only b/c I aggressively seek out rides that I expect to be good enough to earn 5 stars.

Sorry, Dania Beach Hurricane ...My chances of riding all the coasters in the Top 100 just went up, though.

It currently has less than a 5-star average. With 37 riders, in order to have an average of 4.91892, the ride's only received 182 out of a possible 185 stars (4.91892*37 out of 5*37). Which means either 3 people rated it 4/5 stars, or one disgruntled doofus* rated it 2/5 or something in between.

*"disgruntled doofus" in this case refers to a highly intelligent person with whom I'm hoping to disagree in the near future.

Cedar Point now has the coaster with the most riders in the top 100 and the fewest. Though presumably Steel Vengeance won't remain the coaster with the fewest in the rankings for long.

The good ol' first round knockout. Mike Tyson style.

The best of all the jokers is clearly Mark Hamill.

Bobbie- If everyone rated it 5 stars, it would have an average of 5 stars. Since it’s less than 5 stars average, someone(s) gave it less than 5 stars.

Edit: Yeah, what ThatTallGuy said...

Maybe he was on the train that crashed ;)

The sample size grew a bit this week. I'd say it's going to have a fairly firm lock there for some time.

Of course. The Ohio effect will take hold like cement.

It’s a great place to be, that’s for sure.

I got a chance to ride SV twice in the last couple of days, once in row 3 and once in the last row.

The ride is really, really good. It's a non-stop barrage of elements with a lot of short but intense bursts of airtime. I think the re-rideability factor is actually pretty high (with two exceptions - see the below). I've now ridden all but one of the CoasterBuzz top 50 and it's definitely a top 3 ride. I still think Fury and the front row of a "running good" Boulder Dash are better.

On the other hand, there are two things about the ride that I don't like:

(1) I've never been a fan of the RMC trains, and these are no different. The trains are a pain to get in and out of, they're extremely restrictive once in, and padding on the underneath side of the restraint needs to be softened. From a safety standpoint I understand why the trains are designed like this, but there have to be more comfortable design options than their current setups.

(2) The reliability of the ride - and RMC coasters in general - is very spotty. I've ridden all of the RMCs in the US other than the two in California and Twisted Timbers. I've had issues with downtime with all but one of them (Iron Rattler being the exception). We were in the SV station early yesterday morning when we ran into two different delays.

The first delay lasted 10 minutes and was due to a piece of the padding on the back of one of the seats coming loose. One of the ride ops went over to one of the other trains on the transfer track, detached it from one of seats and then attached that piece on to the seat on the train in use. Apparently this isn't uncommon.

The second delay lasted 30 minutes and was due to a seat not unlocking in the station. They had to move the train to the transfer area (with the person still locked in the train), get him out, transfer another train on and then reload. They had row 10 blocked off on Tuesday for the exact same reason.

RMC makes excellent coasters, but their reputation for their coasters being finicky is going to catch up with them once the newness wears off. The cost of an RMC creation is now encroaching on a new B&M but with many more headaches. Steel Vengeance is now in that category. I hope it doesn't continue that way forever.

Ah, Rocky Mountain is the Tesla of the Rollercoaster industry. Amidst their faults, they are just so stinking good!!
