No Coaster Con 2k2 Recap

Here's a somewhat brief recap of today's ACE No Coaster Con.
SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA--Michelle Hoffman (SFGAm PR)
--Space Shuttle America returns - replaces Dino Island 2
--Chinese Acrobats in SW Territory Theater
--"To Fly" in the IMAX Pictorium
--+++++ BLUE SIDE AMERICAN EAGLE WILL RUN BACKWARDS +++++
--Bridge by Deja Vu will reopen
--When asked about Tidal Wave coming back--she appeared suprised and said it has left SFoG but would not answer as to if it will come back. But as a side note, she _DID_ hand out postcards for attendees to fill out for any possible Media Days this season. Coincidence? Possibly, but who knows...
CEDAR POINT - Bryan Edwards
-- Height minimum set - 52" for Wicked Twister
-- Dodge 'Em from by Magnum gone to MI Adventure
-- 1 "Front of Line" pass for all attendees of NCC2K2
INDIANA BEACH - Tom Spackman
-- Ti'grr - 2 yr renovation complete -still no restraints!!!
-- Hoosier Hurricane - Have retacked 900 ft. - Including entire 1st drop hill cut out and replaced
-- ACE Day set for Saturday May 4th
-- Media Day tentative date for "Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain" set for May 17th
HOLIDAY WORLD - Our own "Raven Maven" - Paula Werne
-- Started out with a great song sung to "Day-O" titled "Springtime Come and me Wanna go Ride" (Paula, can you post the lyrics?)
-- Some retracking on Raven - 1st drop, Lake Turn, and Camera Turn. Total of between 900-1000' retracked.
-- New freebie at the park - 30SPF Sunscreen
-- Camera Booth for Frightful Falls.
-- You will now be able to get Cheese Pizza by the slice - no more having to buy the whole pizza!
And last, but not least...
PARAMOUNT KINGS ISLAND - Jeff Siebert
-- ACE Walk-back will continue...with a change...you can CHOOSE between the Beast and TR:TR.
-- They will again offer 1/2 off for all ACE Members
-- TR:TR "announcement" in regards to all the "information" floating around on the internet. It will be a "Heavily Themes Totally Immersive Dark Ride Adventure". That phrase was said many many times, in fact the crowd joined in with him as he said it. What also was said is it will have a 54" height min., effects will be in 3D/4D but no glasses will be needed.
-- He and Dave (?) I forgot his last name - had a video "mock-umentary" about TR:TR that had the crowd in stitches. I asked him later if it will beposted on the internet. He said, "No, it was a special feature for the Con."
-- And here's the cool thing - PKI gave a free admission ticket to everyone in attendance!!
There were additional presenters from Mary Lou Rosemeyer (Kennywood) , Carole Sanderson (ACE VP) and a real trooper Camille Jourdan-Mark (MI Adventure). When a last second cancellation by PTC Rep Tom Rebbie caused an opening, She agreed to do an impromptu presentation.
There were also some GREAT videos by Iain Hendry, Scott Short, Julie Stone, and Clayton Hauck.
A notable absence which was left unexplained and unreplaced was Six Flags World of Adventure.

Thanks for the info...if I lived closer, I WOULD attend one of these events.  Oh well, in the meantime I'll just have to go to WA, BGT or O-Town and make do....

Oh, and the "Dave" was likely David Mandt from PKI...

Ok, I don't know who didn't give you your constipation medicine today, but why get all pissy about it? The recap of NCC was great! I didn't go, and this is the only way I can get this information...it goes back to the saying...if you can't post anything nice, than don't post anything at all...goodjob redman822!

ERT details for CoasterMania are listed in the news section, by the way. They actually released them about a week ago but wanted us to sit on them until today.

You make it seem like she left it open for Tidal Wave to come back, but if I remember correctly she said they ahve no plans to bring it back in the near future. She really didnt seem to surprised I would say she kinda laughed when the question was asked and then said she knew it wasnt there anymore. Even though she said they are making this the year where they are trying to bring things back (such as to fly and space shuttle america) she made it sound like there wasnt a chance it was coming back.
My thoughts on SFGAm's improvements this year:

I am looking forward to riding the Eagle Backwards this year, this is new to me since I didn't get a chance to ride it backwards a couple of years ago when they did it in the begining of the season.  Its something.  I never liked Space Shuttle America,  I thought Dino Isand 3d was much better.  The bridge coming down though is great it was a pain for everyone to get around the park.

-----------------

The announcement that AE's blue side will run backwards put the biggest smile on my face since HW announced two PTCs for Legend.  This certainly is something I never saw coming.  What great news!

-Nate (who's proud to live near the world's greatest Six Flags park)

I've never ridden Eagle backwards so I'm looking forward to that and the bridge is a huge relief.  I never rode Tidal Wave so I really don't have much attachment to it.  if it comes back, great.  if it doesn't, I'll continue to live.  I never saw Dino Island, but my friend says is sucks.  I have seen SSA and I thought it was cool so I look forward to riding that next year.  it sounds like there will be something interesting this year in the SW theater so that's cool.  I've never been to one of the other parks, but I may visit MA and CP this year, but those announcements don't affect me.

I wish I would've been able to go.

Wasn't someone from SFWoA supposed to be there.

Someone was supposed to be there from SFWoA but they had to cancel and Someone from Michagan's Adventure took their place.

<<Çå£ïÇõ姆ꮊ» - I know how you feel.  Ever heard of an event in FL?  It does make decisions regarding the summertime travel interesting, though...

This rocks! I've heard rumors that AE's trains were not in any condition to run backwards anymore, but I guess I was wrong. This is awesome, I never got to ride it going backwards. It is for the whole season, right?
I guess SFGAm got smart and decided to open up the bridge. I hated it, it cut down on my rides on Demon because my group walked past it less.

Oh, I wouldn't get your hopes up on Tidal Wave returning. It just wouldn't make sense to get rid of a ride because of low popularity, then have it return 10 year later.

-----------------
I have no signature.

AE running backwards is sweet and to put it on the blue side makes sense since it is the duller of the 2. Red side forwards, blue side backwards. I definitely predict longer lines for AE this season.

While I didnt care that the wall was put up by Deja-Vu, I can see peoples frustration with it so that is good news that its being removed.

Did anyone ask since SFMW is supposedly going to change things on its V2, if SFGAm was going to receive the same treatment on its V2?

-----------------
""An hour wait for a 2 minute thrill. Yes, we need our heads examined""

No one ever asked that and to be honest I wasnt thinking about it now I wish I had. But I think its funny becasue www.rideop.com posted a long time ago that the wall would be gone and then it is confirmed looks like they have secure news! Now that I think about the V2 thing I think they would have said something about it because they had a video that was a promo for the new year and talked about everything. It was didnt get to ride V2 and DejaVu last year ride it this year and then American eagle backwards and Batman Honored on its tenth anniversy. When doing the V2 and Deja Vu thing I think they would have said ride V2 like never before with an all new first of its kind blah blah.

ChiTown, I'm gonna guess (at least until someone who KNOWS comes along) that the SFMW "thing" involves their indiscretion in regards to height restriction...therefore, SFGAm won't NEED to do whatever revision is in store.  If I am correct in this GUESS, it could become very interesting in the near future for fans of shuttle coasters...see the SFMW thread for some interesting potential shapes of shuttles to come...

WOOOHHOOOO Eagle BACKWARDS!! I am SO there before my CP trip in May. Got a SFGAm virgin on my hands and V2 will be a nice way to warm up for WT.

Just call me MPG...
An update of sorts - PKI held an event last night from 10pm-Midnight to kick off their 30th anniversary year and to debut their 30 year retrospective video. It was a neat video covering the park and it's history (even mentions the Bat) and has a brief segment on TR:TR. I wonder how much it will sell for?

They also re-showed the mock-umentary on TR:TR.

Nothingnew2002, I spoke with others in regards to the SFGAm person and the question on Tidal Wave coming back. They seemed to agree with the way I heard it and that she did not say it wouldn't be coming back. But who knows. Only the higher ups at SFGAm do anthing else is pure conjecture.
