New Wooden coaster for Six Flags St. Louis

d*rockin -- That long wait was on a Saturday night during Fright Fest. So it's not too shocking, I know, but I have visited many times since The Boss was added and the GP seem to love it despite the roughness. It's a very exciting ride IMO.

Oh, alright, that is understandable then. I love the Boss, but my ride on it Sunday was the worst I've ever had, my back still hurts.

It's always fantastic news to have a new wooden coaster being built, especially at a park I like as much as SFStL, and I do indeed like SFStL a lot.

That being said the whole thing seems bizarre to me. I'm by no means complaining, it just seems really strange for this park to be building a major wooden coaster. I wonder what other options they weighed before they landed on this one.

I don't know if it's just me building up an even greater tolerance for roughness over the years, but I thought it was running smoother the last two seasons than it did when I rode it at the end of 2000. And I almost always ride it in the last row, axle seat. :)

See! Now what did I tell everyone in the SFOT THBS thread about a woodie coming to SFSTL?

You didn't tell anyone anything.

This has been in the rumor mill for quite some time.

No, he got the information from his "SFA sources" ;)

This is great news. It's nice to see major theme park operators recognizing wood coasters as solid family rides. Hopefully this is only the start.

I was a bit surprised when I heard of a new woody also. It seems a bit odd for a major corporate theme park to have 2 let alone 3. I think its a great move. This coaster may get me back next year.

What a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting anything of this calibur to come to this park for a while with the new-to-you drop tower and Shapiro driving the ship. Good stuff.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

From what I understand Chuck, the ride will break both of your arms. They put casts on your arms then while going out the exit guests will be given the opportunity to beat a reporter with an aluminum bat while he is restrained by a park employee.

So speaking of Missouri and GCI's, umm.... where is Swoosh? ;)

Maybe they wanted to link it to a name they could get the rights to real cheap!

Next years addition: The Deputy Dawg, with a matching kiddie coaster called the Muskie.... :; Heh heh

It also points out that it is called Evel Knievel. Can we all agree that it's the worst name in the history of names?
Worst name?
ahhh.. well I think Batman, superman, all the 'the ride' rides, well....

cedar fair seems to come up with some pretty inert names as well, Mellenium force, magnum (rubbers anyone?), high heel dragqueen? (i mean top thrill dragster). mantis? a purple, yellow and red mantis? (even if it was called 'banshee' the paint job still sucks).

I'll take Evil Kneivel :) cool they are picking something that isn't instantly marketable, but rather 'cool'.

I'm very happy for the capital investment to the park, but Evel Knievel? REALLY???? What an unusual, no wait, STUPID name!

I mean, what's next? A Huss Top Spin themed to Liza Minnelli? An Intamin Rocket coaster themed to Andre The Giant? A Rotor themed to Joan Rivers???

Odd choice, to say the least.

^ Here come the ride name complaints.

Why don't you just be content with the reality that it wasn't announced as SUPERMAN - RIDE OF WOOD.

HUH?
Whats next?
Batman 'the ride'?
Superman 'the ride'?
Survivor 'the ride'?
Tomb Raider 'the ride'?

gimme a break. Good ole' Evel is cooler than all that. Psycho '78 :)

And Flash pass, to make money? beautiful...

Gene Simmons is paying me to mention his name here...he's shameless! ;)

d*rockin, okay, since SFA is my homepark, I am going to defend it for a second like you would a family member that you don't particularly care for.

What exactly were you trying to imply with the "take that SFAmerica" comment and "ha"? Did you mean to say SFGreat Adventure? Because the last I checked, our last year of capital expansion at SFA was the Hurricane Harbor makeover in 05'.

And if you were referring to SFA, just remember, we've got the one thing you don't have--an Intamin hypercoaster that kicks a lot of ass.

Sadly though, you have The Boss, by far the most painful coaster I've ever been on. I had to go to the hospital in Des Peres because I thought my heart and/or chest had been damaged after riding it.

You see, before you think you're causing us SFA people with any emotional trauma I live in the Baltimore area and can get to multiple parks within a three to three-1/2 hour time-period or under.

Do you have Knoebels, Hersheypark, Kennywood, Busch Gardens Europe, Dorney Park, King's Dominion, and Great Adventure within those driving distances? Since I don't know where you live, I'm going to take an educated guess based on your track record. That would be a "NO." *** Edited 9/27/2007 6:49:24 AM UTC by Intamin Fan***

It was actually just directed at the batwing guy who won't stop complaining about his lack of dry additions. The ha was just adding a sense of jokingness.

I'm not trying to cause anyone emotional damage and since the only parks I am even close to are SFStL, SFGAm, and Holiday World...

Though I will take the painful Boss over S:RoS anyday. *** Edited 9/27/2007 6:57:09 AM UTC by d*rockin***

Well, if you're going to call someone out, then call them out. Don't just make some blanket statement that could offend a lot of people. For better or worse, there are lot of people who live in the Baltimore/D.C./Virginia area who have SFA as their homepark. Maryland is the richest state in the country. Parts of D.C. and the D.C. suburbs are filthy-rich as well.

You can see FedEx Field from the top of S:ROS (and vice-versa, of course). Remember that Daniel Synder owns Six Flags Inc. and the Redskins. So why is he ignoring the park's needs?

And I'm not talking in terms of ride additions per se, no because his "boy" keeps removing rides. I'm talking infrastructure. SFA is in serious need of repainting in areas, more landscaping needs to happen, bathrooms and an indoor restuarant needs to be added in lower Gotham City, connecting paths would be nice etc.

Bathroom capicity needs to be increased in some areas. For example, there is one stall for men that is supposed to support a) all of the Southwest Territory b) Looney Tunes Movietown c) two restaurants and d) a show

I think the previous management totally dropped the ball on the Hurricane Harbor expansion, that Mark could make right. Yes, we got two new slides, a new kids play area, and some new paint and theming, but after checking out SFNE's HH in 04', quite frankly it just doesn't compare. There is plenty of room for new slides to be added.

Finally, how many parks do you know of that have lots of additional land, and have plenty of available land in the existing park that wouldn't require removing any existing attractions? There aren't many.

So in a way, I understand BatwingFanSFA's frustration, but as I've told him over the years in the forums "Get a car, become friends with someone who has a car, whatever it takes and go somewhere else if you're that bothered by the park."

Take that SFAmerica!

Nice! Why would you say something like that? There are others that visit SFA besides BatwingFan and are happy SFStl is getting a new coaster. No need to rub it in the faces of those people. :(
