New trains for RWB!

ShiveringTim's avatar
This is a step in the right direction, but not the best solution. Getting rid of those PTC trailered trains is a good move. However, I have to agree with everyone so far that Gerstlauers aren't the best trains out there in regards to creature comforts like padding, but let's not forget that this is Six Flags here. Would buying a new PTC train have been the best solution? Yes, but when you have a perfectly good G-Train just sitting around, why not use it??

As for the old RWB train, I see that heading up I-90 to SFDL to be used for parts on Predator.

Chuck, visit Atlanta, ride GASM (buzz bars) and Ga Cyclone (stiff return springs). A great twister and a terrific CLASSIC out-and-back on the water. PTCs that run excellent.

Ok, so those PTCs run fine at SFoG, but those are *by far* the most uncomfortable torture devices I've ever ridden in. Particularly Cyclone.

How did they get those seats so narrow?

chris - Agrees with Chuck 110% about Legend and the PTCs.

chris, the seats on Cyclone didn't get any narrower....your butt just got bigger, LOL. I'll readily admit having to squeeeeze my Anna Nicole-sized tush into the seats, but after the lifthill I didn't use the seat anymore anyway...;).

But there's just something about a WILD ride where you enter the station and the lapbars haven't come down in the least. IMO, the only other PTC woodie like it is KG's Twister.

GASM's seats are MUCH more comfy, I'll grant that... those marathoners are gonna be happy happy, 'cause the Great American Scream Machine is really doing it's thing this year...if you're thinking about getting to SFoG this year....DO IT!

Hey look, gator finally posted a TR...;)

That's good to hear, because GASM did NOTHING for me last year. It was wood, yippee, but it was slow, with little air OR laterals. Georgia Cyclone, on the other hand, grabbed me in the Iron Fist Of G's and didn't let up, much to my delight.

GASM was dare I say running relentless IMHO this past weekend. No brakes anywhere until the end and tons of air through the course. Cyclone's track, on the other hand, needs some TLC. Loads of air, but a rough ride otherwise.

I have always thought GASM is just okay. Even this year when others think it's doing great, it's just okay to me. I mean I'll ride it, but it goes into my list of "it's there" pile of wooden coasters.

It's a fun ride, but nothing thrilling, IMO.

All the ride had to be retracked to fit the new trains.. They did more then half most likley, im going today to get my pass.. Ill be taking pics if I can.

Why would they have to retrack the entire ride to run Gerstlauers? I'm pretty sure the gauge is the same as PTC trains, after all CCI used both trains and I don't believe the Legend had to be completely retracked to handle the PTCs.

You'd think if that was the case they'd either change the gauge on the trains, or else not even bother switching trains.

I thought the G-Trains ran great on Villian and absolutely brutally on Twisted Sisters. Hopefully it will run more like the former.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

While not quite as brutal TS woudl still be brutal with PTCs. Crazy laterals!

It's like a Whirlwind inside of my head!

They have to retrack Raging Wolf Bobs because I don't think that ride has had a full retracking since the day it opened.....

RideMan hit it on the head. RWB has not seen any kind of retrack since 1988! Even though this is only the first half to be done (I'm guessing the lift hill and first turn around, etc. will be done next year), RWB should be a slightly different ride this year and after putting much TLC into Big Dipper in the recent past, it's good to see Six Flags putting some TLC on RWB.

As for putting G-trains on RWB, I am relieved that we won't be bouncing along the track like those awful PTC's. I personally have had no major problems with the G-trains on Villain.

X Factor

Well, just got back from the park....

RWB will only be getting half retracked, yet there are still piles of wood in the Plot... Who knows, but I doubt they can finish the lift, drop, turn, and whatnot in a month...

Ill have pics on the site tommorrow probley, so ill let you know.
