New footer markings all over SFOG - discuss

Thanks for the correction...that's what I meant to say...yeah ;)
Wouldn't that still be a limitation? They're limited in what they can build until they get permission? Or am I just not understanding here?
It's not that Cobb County has an ordinance forbidding builds over 200', but rather that if SFoG wants to build over 200', they must submit the height as a separate issue for the Planning Commission to deliberate before granting approval of the entire project. If the Commissioners decide to table that separate motion for future meetings, it could result in costly delays or even cancelling the project altogether should the height issue be refused.

It's just easier and potentially less problematic to stay within that 200' threshhold than to deal with potential permit issues arising from building higher. Even if the Planning Commission approved the coaster but not the height, that means the entire coaster would have to be redesigned from the ground up, which can quickly bust the budget on such a large scale project...

That said, the Cobb Co. Planning Comm. has some upcoming meetings on July 7 and August 2. If SFoG wants to begin construction by late August, then they'll likley be presenting the project for approval and permits at one of these two meetings. For Cobb Co. residents, those meetings are aired live on TV23...

With footer markings already on-site wouldn't that mean they have the permit already? Why pay someone to survey and flag if you're not sure you can build the ride?
You'd think that moosh, but let's remember Superman at Six Flags Mexico...

^^post above^^

There are markers everywhere throughout the USA section, down by the front gate and even outside the park.

Now that thing would be a monster. Wow.

i'm not sure what to put here..

finally! its about time they have something exciting. if everything they is true then that would be awesome.

they havn't had something good like that since superman which was 3 years ago.

That photo does indeed show the markers we saw last Friday.

Well, in Cobb Co., you have to submit complete plans for approval. On a complex build such as this will be, that would include all relevent information on elevations, placement of foundation relative to the land plot, overall blueprint, projected impact on the park's environment and attendance, etc. While these type rules are less stringent for certain homeowners' projects, Cobb Co. has the most strict building codes and inspection procedures in Georgia.

Paying for the survey and coaster design ahead of time is simply part of the risk of pursuing a new coaster, hence the reason why SFoG management has probably been unwilling until now to risk the investment. Odds are though, they've been discussing the possibility of the new project with committee members to field out whether they could get a positive response... Their last few expansions have been family/kid oriented (new kiddie rides and coaster, and Skull Island), so it's a positive basis upon which to present the need now for another adult oriented thrill ride, such as a hyper coaster.

Oh, holy wow. That's some crazy survey markings.

Keep in mine, though, if they're just SURVEY markings that doesn't mean that footers are going to go in the spots where the markings are. Some of them may be markings for where to set the scope.

Right...I saw those, too. The footer markings had a two-digit number and a letter designating right [R], left [L], or center [C]. The scope markings were a different set of numbers only, usually 4-5 digits.
Okay, then. So, which markings are the ones marked on the overhead photograph?

LOL...I didn't study them THAT closely ;)
Geeze. What kind of info source are you, then!? Hrumph... last time I listen to *you*. ;)

As soon as Bass sends me the pics I can show you both kinds of markings, OK? ;)

Will that be before or after the ride is OPEN? ;)

Mike is fantastic peeps, but, well, he makes me seem downright timely...:)

Screamscape has pics showing the two different markings.
We flew down to go to SFOG in April, since we needed a coaster trip pre-season (well, for Chicago it's pre-season :) and had a great time, not to mention getting SF season passes for $49.95 (which beats SFGAm pricing).

I certainly would visit again pre-season if there was a new Beemer. I however would be sad if anything happened to the Cyclone. It was not smooth, but it's a nice coaster. And you must always protect the precious Mind Bender.

Kill the Ninja, I say!!! I thought my ears were bleeding after I got off of that ride. You can have the mine train space too (Wile E Coyote blows that out of the water).

Atlanta is in my future yet again. And maybe I will finally get my point for DV (not likely :)

FYI... the website has been updated with a proposed "layout" of the ride. The drop will dive under the entrance road if this is correct. Check it out at the bottom of that page.
