New Coaster Toy: Six Flags Cool Coasters

LOL that's hilarious. Still haven't found one here in Columbus, so I may have to stop by my friendly neighborhood RideMan's house and take a look at it! To everyone that has submitted pics, thanks. I love the flanged wheel arrangement. Very curious to see how the articulation will handle tight turns. My problem is finding a way to build a Schwarzkopf shuttle without the launcher catching as the train returns. I must put the back spike to use! Perhaps there's a way to raise and lower the "drive tires". Hmmmm......I'll find a way.

Guys, I wouldn't worry too much about valleying unless you're building DejaVu. It's the stacking that you need to avoid, even with one train!

What if you set it up so that the launcher wheels reverse direction to allow the train to go through backwards? You could build an Impulse that way. Have you been on an Intamin Looping Starship? It has wheels under the ship that spin one way then the other to get the ship going, same concept.

The launcher works exactly the same as the ones from the Matchbox car/coaster sets. Anyone seen the scene featuring said cars in 'Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves'? That had to pull way more than 5G's!

Heh, this is the first time I've checked out this thread & model. took one look at the title & thought it to be a crappy model like the Barbie coaster. :)

I thought wrong! Looks cool, possibly better value than the SS. Although the supports leave a LOT to be desired!

I just got mine today, took me awhile to build it so it wouldn't valley. These little cars don't keep speed very well and you can only really have one big element, then the rest has to be pretty low. Still a cool little toy though, and worth the $20. Im going to pick up another kit for sure.

Never had the matchbox launcher but I assume it can run either direction if set up that way. I suppose I can wire up a reverser switch, but for a shuttle I'd want it to coast through the station. Gotta get a set first!

I had an idea for a shuttle coaster. It would be pretty cool. I don't have one of those toys though, so it makes me sad. :(

But if you think about it, a shuttle coaster would allow you to have more track, but you have to make sure the train could get back to the station.

I just re-put my set back together (damn coaster hating brothers) and I have some pics of it. In some of these pics, you might be able tosee my giant lego race track.

Last night I flipped my launcher over and built an inverted design...big honkin' sidewinder over the station, then on around a big half-helix to return to the station. Took some tweaking to make it work. The real pain with the set is that the track twists very nicely (as does the train) and you can do nice vertical curves, but horizontal curves are darned near impossible. Forget about building any mine trains with this gear!

Sort of the opposite of the situation when you're working with model railroad track.

Anyway, the other neat thing about the layout I put together is the supporting structure: two posts, six crossarm supports, one post is on the launcher. Perhaps I can get some photos now that I have a working layout...

k, is the tracxk like track sections? or is it like SS, where u need to snip off the ends of the rails and tape em together?how do you peice the track together?and is the track metal?

Stop the lawyers, not the rides!

What? You had to tape the KNEX rails together?

TOGO!
no, just to connect the ends, not the crossbeams, but i have a custom layout, and its hard to measure it all perfectly...

For people wanting to build a 4 train car with 2 sets I fixed the missing third coupler problem. I took one of those backs pieces that hold the wire ties to the back of the box and snipped it down with some good scissors. It doesn't look the greatest but it works.

Ride Man, I think I may have came up with a way to make flat turns. If the rails are hollow all the way thru each piece that is. Snip pieces off one rail to make that side into a bunch of sections (think of the 3' flex track ties for model trains) then stick pieces of metal in place to hold it together, like linking the sections together. Or maybe melt the pieces together with a soldering iron. I'm sure you came up with that already though. :)

I can see a new forum starting shorthly "Cool Coaster how too's"

Has anyone out there contacted the manufacturer of this toy to find out about distribution and other sets? There is an email address on the instructions. Just thought I'd ask. They mention in the instruction manual the possibility of changing the "themes" on the little shops under the supports. Makes me wonder if there are bigger sets coming.

I got my one set, then went back to three different Wal-Marts locally to get a second one. GONE! All three stores claim they've never heard of it, or sold it. Even the one I got my original set at! It still isn't appearing on the Wal-Mart Website yet either. Hmmm....

WOO-HOO! I finally found some in Houston! Thanks for posting those pics, CP Guy! The information here helped my search tremendously! I kept looking for them with the Lego's & Screamin' Serpents, but I found mine with the plastic models, just like everyone else! BTW, you may want to dig around in those models for more extra sets, because the one I found mine at had several sets buried behind all the other crap on the shelf. It pays to sift through the muck!

If you build it, they will come!

I'm beginning to think that only the stores near a SF park have them. All the stores I have checked with (which happen to be out in BFE) have never heard of such a thing, yet those close to the major parks have them. Is Wyandot not big enough? :)

What about making your own supports? Can it be done?

I called Wal-mart in West Mifflin, Pa they said they didn't have it i went to the store to day and go the last one its 19.99 its great i e-mailed best pals (the maker) and they told me its a wal-mart, and soon to be at kb toys, and in a month at k-mart. I built the screamin serpent and didn't like the outcome for the money but this is diffrent really diffrent its even better i would recommend getting 2 sets though ps. i made the knex building page i am very good at it so if that helps any

We have them at our Wal-Mart here. They had something like 6 or 8 sets in stock. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of money to spend at the time. Soon though...
