New coaster for SFGADV in 2005

I'm amazed this thread made it to 2 pages before the first mention of the mythical "four coaster deal".
And a mention that Vekoma is crap....

lol. Maybe they're getting bought by Cedar Fair! And Nitro is sinking!

In all seriousness, though, wasn't there a B&M 4D"ish" thing scheduled for '05 somewhere in Europe? Port Adventura was it? I would normally agree with Gator and say that they'd wait for the prototype to run its course (especially with Arrow's 4D's track record (pun intended)), but they did put in a B&M flyer in SFoG the same year the "prototype" opened at AT.

I dunno. Too bad I'm in Cali. for the summer and can't go snoop around the parking lot... Oh well.

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Why wouldn't they get an Intamin woodie? It was rumored a few years ago they couldn't get approval because of the site they chose for the ride but isn't it possible they may have picked another location for the ride and hopefully trying to get it approved?

Serioulsy though, if this "source" is a ride operator do you really think they would have such information?
rollergator: I never got a PM from you. I'll send you one with my e-mail address so you can try that instead. Let me know...

I usually agree with your reasoning, but lets not forget that B&M built their first floorless coaster at SFGAdv in '99. That alone gives me reason to believe that the park could see the first N. American B&M "4-D" installation in '05, just like SFOG's Superman opened the same year as Alton Tower's Air. I"m not saying its going to happen, I'm just saying it COULD happen. I'm still putting my money on a standup, because that's something easily marketable in the area because there are no others.

Pink Floyd Fanatic" I hope with everything I have that the park does NOT get an Intamin wood coaster. I don't need another great ride being built that I can't ride due to the fact that I'm not shorter than 5'10" tall!

How about GG woodie instead like Hades? I think PTC are better than Intamin trains if the Intamin wood coaster trains are as cramped as one ones on MF (ridden). Rob are you taller than 5'-10"? I'm 5'-8" and I can see where you are coming from about sized and MF was still cramped whe I last rode it in 2001. B&M built their first inverted @ SFGAm in 1999 unless Nimeses (sp?) was first.
I certainly wouldn't mind a GG wood coaster at SFGAdv IF they learned how to take care of wood coasters.

I'm 6'3" tall and 230 pounds... not small by any means, but in the past two years I had absolutely NO trouble riding both MF and two Superman rides. Nowadays, I can't ride anything, and I know I'm the part of the equation that hasn't changed.

Kiddo...the first B&M inverted was 92...Nemesis came in 94.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

1992 was right for Batman. I don't know why I posted 1999.
Maybe you were thinking the floorless design in '99?

Sopranos: The Ride...a launched stand-up coaster in which you're trying to escape from "The Family" and retire in the Bahamas. Don't sign up for witness protection, LOL. Dodge the baseball bat to the kneecaps, and the other local crime bosses, and you can get *a cut of the action* from your "protected businesses" while sipping tropical drinks :)

Be sure to smile in your on-ride photo, or you might get whacked...;)

I don't understand why the stand-up has suddenly become such a popular candidate...I could've sworn it was the general assumption of this board that stand-ups are dead. *** Edited 6/7/2004 2:48:08 PM UTC by mantis man***

One of the MAIN reasons that I'm *pretty convinced* the new coaster will be a Beema (unless it turns out to be a kiddie) is that B&Ms are reliable, safe, hi-capacity rides that have wide-ranging appeal. Add in the fact that GAdv has a GREAT track record with B&M coasters, and that the stand-up is the one noticeable missing link in their ride arsenal.

A Beema 4-D would be great (OK, supa-fantastic), but I doubt they'll have both Port Aventura AND "The Jersey Devil" competing for time and attention while they are still in somewhat of a development phase....of course, I'd have said the same thing about the B&M flyers....but a 4-D is another thing altogether...;)

Why isn't there a coaster called the Jersey Devil? You'd think after all this time...

Except that Port Aventura is in financial trouble and looks like they've cancelled their rumored B&M 4D.

Six Flags owns the rights ot the 4D patents as part of the settlement with Arrow over X, so they could theoretically sell or license them to any manufacturer. While B&M could develop their own system that does the same thing that Arrow's did, it would be much faster and easier to use the same technology with permission of the owner. It would be a win win for Six Flags to work with B&M or Intamin or even Vekoma to build a better-functioning version of the 4D. My money would be on Claude & Walter being the best bet to work out the kinks.

Only a few more hours to the Jackson Township Planning Board meeting, where we should get some details of the new coaster.

^The problem with this theory is, that Bolli & Mabs would not want an Arrow 4-d licence since they (or their engineers) considered it a problem laden concept from the beginning.
If they would do an 4-d kind of ride they would certainly come up with a whole different concept, therefore they would not need a licence anyway.

Somehow I never really believed in that spanish article and the dubious B4dM. There seems to be no sign at Port Aventura of any construction or preparation. And I donĀ“t think that the park would abort a project of this magnitude so easy.

But maybe BGT and BGW will surprise us...

^^ Since when is 7.5 hours only a few hours?

Thanks Tom B., I was unaware that P.A. was in that kind of financial shape...

Whether it's B&M, or S&S, or even someone else, I don't anticipate seeing the SAME structural design on future 4-D rides....the running rails out of necessity have to be able to take more of the train's weight load and transfer it INWARD towards the main supporting steel. The idea of having all four seats OUTSIDE the rails causes a whole myriad of problems...

I really think X will be a one-of-a-kind for as long as it stands....but I could be wrong, it's happened before...;)

If the Port Adventura ride has been cancelled, perhaps the design was sold to Six Flags and will make an appearance or two in '05. SFGAdv, SFMM and SFOT all seem ripe for incredible new coasters.
